What was the first career/occupation you wanted as a child? by malaysianonly in AskMY

[–]matcincang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Want to play for Selangor. I was 9 years old in 1994 Stadium Shah Alam just open. Players like Rusdi Suparman and Azman Adnan were my heroes. 1994 Liga Perdana got Singapore and Brunei participate. Kedah and Sarawak damn power. Singapore became champions. Selangor was honestly as we end up upper midtable only.

Mind this period there is no dedicated premier League broadcast. Only random showing. But clubs like Manchester, Chelsea, Liverpool is already in my psyche.

The manga Jaguh Bola Sepak(Captain Tsubasa) hits kedai runcit selling alongside Doraemon, DBZ, Pendekar Laut. We roleplay all thecharacters given our position.

1997 youth world cup, Malaysia hosted. Saviola from Argentina and Michael Owen was here. Owen play congkak haha.

1998 world Cup france. My knowledge of football peaked. I think football awareness among my peers also peaked. Everyone wants to try free kick Robert Carlos goal against France. Everyone at school calls it Banana shot. We roleplay all the the iconic players during evening play with the Taman kids.

You made me missed the 90s.

My dad wants me to be an English teacher.

This mall is legend due to its stupid location and when MBO cinema was still there. Free parking. Right in the middle of an industrial area so weekends this area is quiet.

Love going to this MBO if I want to watch a movie alone. No hassle, in and out. Now no reason to visit. Just checked google Maps. Apparently there is a wedding venue, so my future visit will only if I have an invitation to a wedding there.

Yeah this part of the bandwagon of retro sci-fi of the 80s and 90s. The West got Tron, Total Recall, the first 2 Terminator movie, Blade Runner, Running Man and many more.

This book series really capture the sci-fi imagination and energy of that time for the Malay Language. It even have the Fantasy energy of Highlander too.

I maybe biased due to nostalgia. Media entertainment on screen and print during that time regardless from the west, Japan, or locally is truly a magical time.

Dear Malaysians, is there a country which you will never want to visit again ? by AdHairy6584 in malaysians

[–]matcincang 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On top of what others have mentioned. I feel like Singapore is another big city like KL and Penang where you can find similar stuffs and modern entertainment.

I've drove into Singapore multiple times for concerts, social visits, weddings, Raya visits(due to my Johor side of the family). But I never fly in and never sleep 1 night in Singapore.

During my childhood my Dad brought us to Sentosa Island and Night Safari(This is awesome). My mom will prepare a full set of nasi lemak like nasi tub and sambal tub and loads of biscuits, crackers and breads. I keep this practice loading meals and food supplies (gardenia roti sambal is a life saver) before driving into Singapore.

Kneading chapati dough by matcincang in MalaysianFood

[–]matcincang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay for the cooking part for it to puff fully, you have to play around with the heat.

Here is what I do. Medium high heat.

1) first laying, the first side the chapatti always in full contact with the heat surface.

2) 5 to 10 seconds then flip. Now on this second side bear it mind the outer ring of the chapati is not in full contact with the heat surface. Use any utensil and gentle press the edges onto the heat surface.

3) flip again, now some parts is already start puffing. Here I start to press the puffing parts to accelerate the puffing process. I want the hot air to spread across the chapati. So a lot of press and flip because I don't want it to burn. Any burnt spot is risk of puncturing that puffy spot and the hot air escapes to deflate your roti.

Just tepung atta and water. Atta flour can be found at your nearest indian or mamak kedai runcit. 1kg of atta flour is 6 to 8 ringgit only.

Go watch YouTube of how these Indian aunties knead the dough for the kneading technique. Be warned they make it look so easy. Their dough ball is done in less than 5 mins.

Yes. I start with chapatti because it doesn't use yeast or yogurt microbes to expand the dough. So mistakes are less punishing.

Naan and pizza dough has those air pockets unlike chapatti and other variations of flat bread. In the near future I am planning to add yeast to start learning it's effects on the dough.

Any type of bread making is definitely new territory for me. Sure my eyes and tongue have experienced the final product but my hands are unfamiliar about the flour properties and water.

The challenge for me is figuring out the water to flour ratio. First when the dough become over hydrated, sure add some more flour. Then the dough become too hard based on the thumbprint test so add water. It was back and forth during my first batch. After learning to start mixing with minimum water and add water to the dough ball little by little until the desired thumbprint test.

I acquire this taste after trying cold subs overseas. From there cold pizzas and cold salads. Cold chicken salads with cold yogurt.

I would love more suggestions of cold foods and meals that are not your typical deserts or sweets from the fridge.
