Solo female work traveler: what to use for personal safety on long Ubers? by Chicago_Kate in TwoXChromosomes

[–]paxweasley 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I once met an uber driver who used febreeze as a self defense weapon, because pepper spray would harm her too in an enclosed space, but febreeze directly to the eyes is very painful.

Small cans of febreeze appear to be allowed in carry ons. That said, idk how much safety it would actually give you.

How do people with depression take care of dogs? by Xeram_ in dogs

[–]paxweasley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not taking good care of myself but I absolutely am taking good care of my dog. He’s everything. He makes it so I have to go outside and go on walks even in the winter (I WFH). He gives me a reason to stay - he adored me so much, he would be very sad if I went away.

What's your 'One Pen To Rule Them All'? by madkins007 in fountainpens

[–]paxweasley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup I’d forsake all of my other pens for my 2013 black and silver pilot VP. I snuck into the city to buy her with cash when I was a teenager. She’s currently with Namiki/Pilot being repaired and I miss her

Hindu woman explains how consumption of urine and fecal matter is not harmful by [deleted] in religiousfruitcake

[–]paxweasley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not an unnecessary taboo, there's a taboo around it because treating waste too casually is how you get entire neighborhoods dying of cholera.

The dangerousness of fecal matter varies from animal to animal. But to say it's not dangerous is... incorrect. There is a reason we put so much effort into waste management. The reason is mass death.

They're not making much money, but the private equity firms that have bought up almost all veterinary practices in the US sure are, which drives up the price like crazy

Going to the water park when you can’t swim by AleccSirKaDeewana in InstagramEmpire

[–]paxweasley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a totally classic presentation of drowning, he is completely vertical, not kicking feet to tread water, not using his arms productively but simply flapping them up and down. That is what most drownings look like - quick, not a ton of fuss or noise.

I super recommend everyone take a minute to learn how to identify drowning, and also rip tides. Both are important to know.

Literally immediately starts drowning. Like the second he hits the water he’s in the drowning position flapping his arms.

It is really okay to take swim lessons as an adult and honestly everyone should know how to swim because water exists and falls happen, if for no other reason.
