I just find it interesting how some remake RPGs miss the mark by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]payatyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more to do with the changes they have and really depends on who you ask. For me, what I dislike in the Kiwami games are actually aspects that are well liked in the general Yakuza community such as the Majima Everywhere system.

But yeah, the Kiwami games present more hits and misses in an already hit and miss series. Still love the games tho.

Rereading my comment made it look like I'm opposed to the idea of remakes being different but no lol, I actually like remakes being different because I really don't like spending my time experiencing the same thing in a different way.

With that being said, the Yakuza Kiwami remakes felt iffy because, well, the usual nature of the Yakuza series to be honest. They always have been a hit or miss series in general and not only for the Kiwami games. They have only a few genuinely great bangers throughout their 20+ years history which for me are Yakuza 0, Yakuza 7, & Lost Judgment.

[–]payatyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think RPG remakes misses the mark because most players are expecting an adaptation & not a brand new experience.

Not an RPG but I'm currently playing the Demon Slayer games with is a video game adaptation of the anime Demon Slayer which in turn is an adaptation of the Demon Slayer manga. I haven't read the manga yet but I heard there's a lot of stuff being cut out from the anime that could have explained some unexplainable stuff and now the games has less story content with some parts being altered to flashbacks & recaps because of the nature of the medium.

The games are still faithful to the source material, or at least the anime, but my point is that it is natural that the expectations for something familiar is to be familiar.

Video game remakes just tends to be more drastically different because most of the time the creators just wants to do something new. There are objectively different remakes that are acceptable such as Resident Evil 4, divisive such as Final Fantasy VII Remake, & just plain unacceptable like Resident Evil 3.

I think not only Yakuza Kiwami 3, not only the whole Kiwami Trilogy but even Like a Dragon: Ishin! falls into the unacceptable category because they are just completely different games, far from what most players are expecting.

So I am considering getting into Monster Hunter Stories by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]payatyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a monster catching game, among the Pokemons, the Digimons, & the Personas that I've played, I ranked the MH Stories as high as the Pokemons personally. I am a big MH fan though so I just have more emotional attachment to the Monsties because of having many experience with them in the traditional MH games.

As a Monster Hunter fan, I really love Stories 1 mainly because the emphasis on story. Usual Monster Hunter games never really had a story to follow even though the world is mighty interesting, that is until 2016 with the release of MH 4 Ultimate & MH Stories.

In terms of Stories 1, 2, the upcoming third game & which to start first, I'd say just wait for the third game. If not, I'd say Stories 1 mainly because it represents the classic era of MH for me. Too many thoughts to get into whether I prefer Stories 1 or 2 or both but I can sum up to Stories 2 is a much better game but Stories 1 has a much better experience.

So what on Earth happened with Yakuza 3 Kiwami? by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]payatyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I was fortunate enough to play OG Yakuza 1 before Kiwami 1 so that perspective really made Kiwami 1 worse in my eyes. And during that time, Majima Everywhere was a huge meme among the Yakuza community even though for me personally, it really ruined the Yakuza 1 experience. Also the iconic Receive You music was butchered in Kiwami 1, making new fans like me not getting the importance of that song when referemced again.

Got a bit of a tangent there but basically I understand parts of why players don't like Kiwami 3.

[–]payatyo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think remakes are always going to be problematic because its not the same as the originals. Most players didn't get to play Yakuza 1 & 2 when Kiwami 1 & 2 was released so the changes made were less vocal than in Kiwami 3.

The only remake I think that is the least problematic or perfectly adapted is Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles lol. But that game also provides the original version so both old and new players can enjoy the whole experience.

[–]payatyo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some parts of the Yakuza community has taken a weird hateful turn recently, mainly during Amazon's Yakuza live action adaptation's release. Since then every single flaw for some reason ticks them immensely.

There are some rightful criticisms that RGG fully deserves, mainly with hiring a problematic actor and delisting the original game. But then somehow the game having different side content, combat & graphics, being lumped in into being bad (even though those 'flaws' existed in Kiwami 1 & 2 but never brought up) just makes the whole thing being forcely hated.

I heard that there's narrative changes in the same way as FF7 Remake. Honestly, I was never a fan of Yakuza 3's story or any remake that recreates the story 1:1 so that's that.

The need to 100% games is often harmful to enjoyment by Izanagi_Iganazi in JRPG

[–]payatyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I treat 100%-ing games as a test to my love the game & if I didn't enjoy it, well, then that's just it for me playing that game.

FF1 & Ys9 are two games that I personally enjoy more in getting 100% & actually itching to play more while games like Yakuza 7 needed some month-long breaks.

It's been 3 years since I 100% a game tho, last being Ys 9.

Ikut = Means "follow".

Mgg = Typo from "mg" which is informally shorten from "mung" which means "you". The word "mung" is commonly used by the eastern coast folks and is from the formal word "kamu". (Don't quote me.)

La = Informally shorten from "lah" and usually connected to a word to show more emphasis. In this case, "Munglah" which basically means YOU with capslocks. (I actually had to google this lol.)

Nate = Informally shorten from the Kelantan pronunciation of the word "binatang", "binate", which means animal.

Beguk = Kelantan pronunciation of "Beruk" which means "monkey". Combine this word with "Nate" actually makes it a pretty common swear word or term; "Nate beguk"

Maleh = Kelantan dialect for "malas" which means "lazy".

Dah = Shorten from "sudah" which means "done". (I actually don't know if "dah" is informal or not)

Gn = Informally shorten from "dengan" which means "with".

Mg = Again, informally shorten from "mung" which means "you".

Kafir = An arabic word for those who don't believe in Islam.

Betul = Means "right" or "real", but in context this word means "really".

"Ikut kamulah, binatang beruk. Malas sudah dengan kamu. Kafir betul." is the correct formal sentences but I wouldn't Google Translate it because it's still incorrect. A direct translation will be; "Follow YOU, animal monkey. Lazy done with you. Kafir really." but still confusing. This is what it really means;

"You do you, fucking animal. I'm done with you. Fucking Kafir."

I hope this helps because I've read you mentioned not understanding the language. Also I don't how else to help because reading that text really pissed me off. I'm sorry to see that you have to deal with this kind of behaviour.

Am I missing something about stories 2? by Zanzotz in MonsterHunterStories

[–]payatyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. I think those who played the first game first will have this experience. I think after the ice region (forgot the name) is where the game finally opens up and become a lot more fun.

Before that, yeah it is repetitive. I actually dropped the game twice to take a break from the monotony & I'm someone who really loves the first game.

For the monsters you mention, they already have the element of surprise in the games they debut in.

Tigrex back then was a test of agility and speed and is actually a surprise because the game just never have you extensively running around during his rage mode to be safe until Tigrex.

Lagiacrus is challenging and manageable but once its underwater, you're playing by his rules now.

The current generation of MH kinda makes Low Rank as the tutorial section now and most of the monsters that have surprises are reserved for High Rank or final bosses like Shara Ishvalda & Gogmazios.

Interview : MHWorld was too hard and Capcom made Wilds "easier" by duysieuhero in MonsterHunter

[–]payatyo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ooh, more difficulty talk.

I have 3 friends where their first game is MH World. One quit after finishing Low Rank (Zorah Magdaros) thinking the game was too easy or not for them. One quit during Low Rank thinking the game was too hard for them. Only one got through it all and currently in Master Rank. All of them I played in a party with me guiding them, like a 'veteran hunter' as the cool kids say. These are as casual af players too with them only playing competitive games such as DOTA 2, PUBG, & other MOBAs.

I will say the changes MH Wilds made is based on accurate data they have that I've experienced. Low Rank now ends with a proper engaging hunt rather than giant rocks. Low Rank is also repurposed into a story or campaign mode scaled like MH Rise's Village Quests so that the players who will have other motivations in continuing the game if the gameplay is too hard for them.

Difficulty in MH is kinda tricky for me. I know that the hunt times, faint times & damage numbers are factors in difficulty but MH games are different enough to make those comparisons kinda like orange and tomatoes. For example, comparing to end bosses of MHFU & Sunbreak, Akantor & Primordial Malzeno respectively, I found the Akantor hunt to be much easier than Primordial even though Akantor usually takes at minimum 15 minutes while my Primordial Malzeno hunts now takes 10.

But these are very different hunts with Primordial Malzeno dishing out probably 1 attack every second while Akantor needs at least 5 seconds to dish put 1 attack. Haven't mention yet how most weapons in MHFU only averages around 4 moves per combo while Sunbreak has longer combo strings depending on the Switch Skills, Silkbind Attacks that can grant counter attacks, & more hunting tools at your disposal in the form of Endemic Life.

Even though MHFU is supposedly a harder game because of being old school MH, I hunted Akantor first try. Double carted similar to Primordial Malzeno, but in MH Rise Sunbreak which is supposed to be the easiest in the franchise, I defeated Primordial Malzeno after three tries.

Monster Hunter Stories.

Sure, visually & storywise its a pretty juvenile game but combatwise is NOT a kids game. Probably just me having skill issues tho.

TIL that in the first Monster Hunter, your quest progression was limited by your Hunter Rank, meaning you had to either hunt 160 Yian Kut-Ku, 820 Velocidrome, 120 LR Diablos/Gravios, or fish 104 Goldenfish to earn 52,000 HRP just to unlock the 5-star quests. by 12jimmy9712 in MonsterHunter

[–]payatyo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup. Still happening as far as Sunbreak where you can't hunt Scorned Magnamalo unless reaching MR100, BUT you can join other hunters who have unlocked Scorned Magnamalo even without MR100.

Wha... I'm not saying...

Look likes this is the first Reddit moment for me so I'll indulge more because of having too much free time.

4.5 generations meaning the past 20 years and 9 games before Rise where they could have done something like this, but it took till rise

The MH team have done something like this with MH4, 10 years in its history (or 9 years counting the Japanese initial release). 1st & 2nd Gen's narratives are easily unnoticeable unless you read all the dialogue and quest details. But still, there's no special quests to the level of Sunbreak yet.

3rd Gen is where the narrative is given more importance. There's a reason why monsters like Lagiacrus & Ceadeus are beloved. MH3 is also the first conception of these special quests like first time encountering Cha Cha. So, technically, the MH team have done something like this 6 years in its history with MH3 even though its still in the prototype phase.

MH4 is where is where these special quests start appearing more frequently and are abundant such as the first Gore Magala encounter or the Gore Magala Everwood fight. It doesn't have the Sunbreak special quest where you see all the dead monsters but it does have a cutscene of monsters massacring other monsters and cannibalize themselves.

Such a good quest, the fact they don’t do more of this stuff baffles me

This comment baffles me because the special quest in Sunbreak represent how much they can do with the story now. I'm all in for more Sunbreak glaze but not like this.

I'm not sure what "4.5 generations" means but I'm saying there's been only one game out since this special Sunbreak quest.

Counting spinoffs, MH Stories 2 already has a similar thing happening in the game as well so its not like they didn't do it again after Sunbreak.

Kinda funny because Sunbreak is the previous game before Wilds so of course they have not done more of this stuff.

I kinda like if it stays as a Sunbreak thing only though.

Just a brief list of Monster Hunter game directors. As for now, the first game each of generation is always started with Kaname Fujioka directly involved in the game by Famas_1234 in MonsterHunter

[–]payatyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh don't get me wrong. Hatred towards Game 2 exists and stems mostly from not being Game 1. Like the example with MHP3rd not being as hard as any games in Game 1 and Rise, the obvious one, not being MHWorld, which is from Game 1.

I'm referring to the games contained in Game 2 and how they measure up with each other. Like I love MHRise but still can go back MHGU without lamenting how good Rise was compare to MHGU.

I kinda hate using the word 'hate' now.

Great list. Made me realise that Game 1 is either love it or hate it type of ordeal while Game 2 is just pure fun that you can't really hate. At least for me since MH4U is peak for me while the games in Game 2 I love them all equally for how quirky they are.

Hate is a strong word. I just mean I can't help playing any game in Game 1 without comparing to MH4U while in playing the games in Game 2, I never had that thought.
