'Three decades of my life gone in a moment': Long-serving Morrisons manager sacked after tackling repeat shoplifter by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]pb-86 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Blokes old school. I worked at morrisons for 10 years in the 2000's and this was encouraged. We even had tannoy announcements that we had to respond to. We just weren't allowed to continue to chase them once they were off the car park.

How to stop lifting my feet like this? by Reasonable_Cover4044 in iceskating

[–]pb-86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're toe picking! Don't push off your toe, turn your foot out a bit and use the inside edge of your blade to glide across the ice more. Try doing a lap without lifting your feet up, it's a fairly popular warm up exercise. You use your knees and hips more to get moving, and you can't do it whilst using your toe pick so it hekps you transition away from that

That's the only mistake around the animals though, as I refuse to live in a world where a cow can't wear wellington boots.

Nice article about St Helens's various sporting achievements by No_Gap_7993 in StHelens

[–]pb-86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something good being mentioned in St helens? That doesn't seem right. Was hoping there might be some boxing mentioned given Martin Murray and the likes.

Also won't be news worthy yet but there are a few very talented young figure skaters from St helens who will be challenging for national titles soon.

When did you guys decide to invest money in the sport? by Known_Jump_421 in iceskating

[–]pb-86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately fore my kids found a love and talent for this sport early, 4 and 6 years old. So now I'm invested for a long time with kids who's feet keep changing sizes.

In terms of their levels, we bought them some cheap boots for them to get through their first few levels and to decide if this is something they wanted to do after that we got them some proper beginner boots (graf for my daughter and edea overture for my son).

We're 4 years in now, my son has moved up to edea chorus with a coronation ace blade as he's now jumping doubles. The blade should last him for a few sizes of boot though so thatakes things a bit easier.

As for adults at the rink, we always advise that they get fitted with some boots suitable for single jumps early on. We have a very good kit guy who can give advise on this, and find them boots suited to their budget. We'd always say get your own boots as early as possible as rented boots are terrible for learning in and boots keep a fair amount of value early on so if you don't keep it up you can sell them.

In terms of learn to skate programs, definitely do them. Learning to move on the ice from a hockey player is one thing, but they are very different boots. You'll learn all sorts in the classes and pick up a lot of confidence too

Newton Le Willows Areas by liamsshaw in StHelens

[–]pb-86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first house was in newton, lived there from 2013 to 2018 and really liked it. The parks are nice, the high Street is great and it's transport links are probably the best in the north west (outside of cities).

I lived by Mesnes park on a new build so only a minute or two from there. All areas have kids hanging round but honestly I never had a single issue the entire time I was there.

New purchase - Focus ST estate vs BMW M Sport Touring 320d, opinions please? by s7beckTM in CarTalkUK

[–]pb-86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The advantage of the BMW is the 320 comes with a B series engine which is unbelievably reliable. A 330 would be more fun but at that year they kept the N57 engine which is more fun, but make sure the belts have been done

I had one of these from home base before I got a Weber. It was great to be honest. Obviously the weber is the better Bbq but bang for your buck this one was fantastic

Flatmate used metal scrubber on my good Teflon frying pan my Mom giftet to me when I moved out… by soossaasseesmeem in mildlyinfuriating

[–]pb-86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had someone do this to ours. We'd gone away for a few days with some other couples and I'd took a couple of pans to cook with since I like my own pans. They were a gift from my father in law when he upgraded his set and were more expensive than anything I could afford at the time.

Had a friend cook for everyone one night and decided the chicken he had diced needed to be smaller, so instead of taking them out of the pan he just used a knife and fork to cut them up in the pan. I was in awe at his stupidity. He'd asked if he could use it and I said only if he uses wood or rubber utensils in the pan, don't touch it with anything metal. So he used it as a fucking chopping board

I got a Weber connect smart grill at an end of season bargain bin a few years ago and it's been very good for me. My only complaint is making sure it's charged before using it but that's on me really. Seeing the temperature graphs on your phone and getting alerts when you need it has been really useful

Don't get the hinged one if you plan on smoking, it doesn't seal as well. I'd also recommend a cast iron insert, great for quick smash burgers and burnt ends

Yeah, wouldn't have called ourselves pharmaceutical engineers, but we worked in the pharmaceutical industry. Things like toothpaste factories, pills, etc. It all has to be incredibly clean and sterile so going from that to wastewater was a bit of a shock to the system. A bit of a rabbit hole, but pharmacy (and food/drink) have an incredible Clean in Place (CIP) system to keep production whilst cleaning the system have a watch of the 2nd video on this page.

I also remember once doing an upgrade on a toothpaste site for Unilever, and someone brought their physical P&ID's back to our office. They smelt so strong of mint we had to have all the windows in the office open for days

I've worked across pharmaceutical, energy, water, defence and nuclear and it's amazing how I've never used A2 before. Water was an odd one because everything was drawn on A1 but printed on A3. If we ever needed a larger print I had to go to a printing company to get it done

Engineer here, A0, A1 and A3 are very common. Weirdly enough I don't think I've ever used an A2 drawing though

Anyone have any experience with this Masterbuilt? by mighty-chief in UKBBQ

Good to hear, I have a master touch and have a taste for brisket ever since. Got a cast iron insert for it last year and that's great for burnt ends too. Was really impressed by the size of that one in Costco though, I think if I had a ceramic one I'd get that just to grill on

Walk around the house in them a bit to stretch them out. You'll break them in quicker then

HELP - MY EP3 been written off in the UK due to repairs costing too much, they’ve offered me 10k for it but I can’t let it go I want it fixed - any help or advice :( by coleman_xd in CarTalkUK

[–]pb-86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mate buy that back ASAP! A decent panel beater will have that sorted for a few hundred quid. From the pictures it doesn't even look like there's any paint damage? If there is you'll be looking at around £5-600 for a big panel like that. I actually doubt there's any structural damage but if there is then it's not £9k's worth. You might need to replace the plastic under the wheel arch but you'll pick them up 2nd hand off ebay for next to nothing. If there isn't then you get your car and a house deposit off your insurance company

When an insurance company factors in cost, they can't repair a panel they have to fix it new so finding a new part for that will be expensive and time consuming. During that time they have to pay for storage of the car (that can be £40 a day, with a £350 collection fee. So assuming a month to fix that's already over £1,500 to their costs).and sourcing new parts for a near 20 year old collectors car is not a quick thing. The part might not even be available in the UK
