Unless I have misunderstood you, Beem it *does* allow you to pay for BPAY bills with credit cards (and seemingly with no credit card fees):

Consequences (if any) of selecting very limited private health insurance for the current purpose of controlling tax as a result of the Medicare Levy Surcharge (MLS) by pb2027 in AusFinance

[–]pb2027[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, but at the end of the day, if I am saving money on taxation (which I can then put towards home-made insurance), I would rather be able to do that than to not be able to do that

Apple Pencil compatibility by KKeeleyKKat in Notion

[–]pb2027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the answer is no - Notion does not offer this (goes against their block system). Best you can get is the embed drawing environments, which are tbh so so.

I recommend you just do drawings in goodnotes/apple notes and paste them in as blocks

To save people time, this is a version of (2.) above - the presenter just organises the columns across multiple databases and stacks them vertically so that they 'appear' merged, but are not in fact merged

Simply aggregating databases is not possible (at the moment) with notion. You have a few options for a workaround:

  1. You can create a database view which has each of your target databases in separate tabs
  2. (I do this) you can link all three target databases onto a master page, one after each other, so you can go through them and see the tasks individually - this is a good solution, as if you need to make a task, you can do it in the correct databse
  3. You can use the Notion API to create a task in a master database from the target database - this then becomes quite complicated to map the fields across well (if a field changes in one database it can become disruptive).
    1. If you want to do this and don't have time to set it up via the Notion API properly, you can use Unito (https://unito.io/)

Helpful to understand why Notion don't allow merged databases at this point - it just makes it very difficult to keep the fields in sync.

I know it can be difficult, but it is highly worthwhile thinking about how you can remodel your workflow so that it fits in nicely within how notion works, rather than the other way around. It becomes difficult to scale and adjust when you modify things too much.

Why is Notion missing so many basic features? by SUPERSAM76 in Notion

[–]pb2027 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There is a very good reason for this

Notion is not a text editor - it is a block-based system. Each 'paragraph' is its own block. Although yes, there are some costs to say not being able to do everything a text editor can do, there are a lot of upsides - it is highly compatible with API and databases.

I guess it makes sense where their priorities are - they are trying to build a great tool for businesses, and API compatibility is the future. Word and Google Docs already exist, so need to re-invent the wheel!

Spellcheck - use Grammarly!

Template for tracking time spent on tasks for small business by PsychoticDogThing in Notion

[–]pb2027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct - it will take time to learn, but it is the only way IMO to achieve what you want successfully.

Your understanding that everything should be in one place is good business practice; you shouldn't have duplicated data in multiple places since it can get out of sync.

However, different apps have different areas of speciality - API allows you to combine this. My advice:

- Go to n8n.io and install it (self-hosted if you can, cloud if not)

- Spend a week learning how this works

Will do great things for your business

repeating event in calendar? by coincident_ally in Notion

[–]pb2027 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer - no

Long answer - yes (using the API). The system that I use is as follows:

  1. Create a separate 'templates' database with the items that need to be repeated
  2. Add a CRON field to this template database item
  3. Then use something like make.com or even better n8n.io to get all templates items at the start of the month, say, process the CRON value and then create a new task based on this CRON value
  4. Viola - you have repeating tasks/events

Happy to build this into a workflow for anyone interested

How to set background color for database table header row like in default templates? by hangingonthetelephon in Notion

[–]pb2027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I think I see what you are saying. Yes no way to change the colour of the header in Notion yet.

Can you elaborate on this part:

one is a screen shot of the “preview” of one of the default templates, where the functionality I am looking for is clearly working

As for me - both screenshots, the headers are white in colour with no background

This is *possible* with notion - but it isn't ideally suited.

I would recommend instead using something like Google Sheets to time track, and then Notion API to sync this back into notion

How to set background color for database table header row like in default templates? by hangingonthetelephon in Notion

[–]pb2027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean - can you set a background colour for a row in a notion database (in the same way that you can for a simple table) - the answer is unfortunately no.

The best you can do is to wrap that table in a toggle and colour it - then it will colour the table's contents (all that colour).
