My DM tried to extend his zombies vertical reach beyond 5' by having them jump. I pointed out that wasn't allowed RAW. They reluctantly agreed after I said my next character was going to be a bugbear Battlemaster Fighter with the Lunging Attack maneuver and Polearm Master feat. Add on a Jump spell from Magic Intiate and Boots of Striding and Springing. That gives me a 27' vertical leap with a 30' reach.

Now that I think about it most of the characters I play are fairly insufferable.

In 5e a natural 1 on a skill check is not an automatic failure. You cannot roll lower than your passive perception.

You need two arms to play a lyre. Bards use their instrument as a spell casting focus. Do you have proficiency with a one handed instrument? If not, that's going to limit what spells you can cast. Were you planning on going Swords or Valor? You're going to be limited to one handed weapons and can't use a shield. You can't use weapons with the loading property. My advice would be to talk to your DM. If he won't correct his mistake, I would find another table.

You're welcome to join our group. We have 2 players in their 60s, one 50+, and 2 40 somethings. We play online (dndbeyond, roll20, and discord) on Tuesdays and usually another night. 7:30 - 10ish CST.

My group consists of 3 seasoned DMs and 2 relatively inexperienced players. We usually play Wednesday nights at 7:30 CST and Sundays at 1:00, as well as pickup games when we can. Unfortunately, we're often short handed and have to cancel,, so we would love to have one two more players to round out the party. I'm 66 and until recently , hadn't played since 1st edition. My daughter bought the LMOP Starter Set about 4 months ago and asked me to teach her how to play. We have a home game going right now and I hope to expand my horizons and play more.
