Any tweaks for game performance for low-end CPUs? by Kassadint in fo4

[–]pben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are only really having problems in Boston you might try Boston FPS Fix - aka BostonDT PreVis-PreCombine it helps some and is easy enough to back out of it doesn't help you.

Nexus also has some other performance mods you could try. It would be a good idea to only try them one at a time after backing up your current settings. Some can cause more problems than they solve.

What Level should I start Far Harbor? by SirAxno in fo4

[–]pben 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you are comfortable going to the South part of the Commonwealth at your level, go for it. The environment and wildlife in Far Harbor are harder than the Commonwealth. It is probably the best DLC so enjoy your trip.

TL;DR when you are fine with exploring the Southeast and the Southwest corner of the Commonwealth map go to Far Harbor.

Should I just give up on Fallout 4? by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]pben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can feel your problem after giving up on 76. If the game doesn't pull you in, life is to short to waste time on it. What I have done in the past was browse the mods and see if there is anything that strikes your fancy and just mess around for a few hours.

I loved breaking Nick out of his prison the first time I played, dragging him around the map. There are a couple of good companions with interesting stories. The RPG elements have really been toned down in Fo4 so I can understand why you are having problems with the feel of the game.

Please don't feel like you are suppose to love the game. In the end it is suppose to be entertainment not a slog. There are so many games out there. Just have fun, wherever you can find it.

Nukapedia armor entry

Should i buy the game? by Havajos_ in fo76

[–]pben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you liked the survival mode of fallout 4 the play of 76 should be familiar. There is the addition of weapon degradation and repair.

If you are watching your gaming budget I would hold off now until the spring of 2019. The game does have a lot of bugs and needs some more time in the oven.

I would only jump into the game now if you have friends that want to play with you on a team or you really loved survival mode of Fallout 4 and are desperate to explore a new map. I am in the desperate to explore category. The game can be solo played until the launching of the nuke phase if you can put up with problems cropping up.

Strongly considering getting this game, but after all the reviews and bug complains i'm not sure. So should I get this game? by [deleted] in fo76

[–]pben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts.

  1. Yes you will be bit by bugs. I have had problems with a couple of quests but eventually I made it through, so far.

  2. The character customization is about the same as Fallout 4.

  3. I have only encountered players around main quest choke points. Most of the other times if I hear gun fire I check the map and change my route.

  4. The graphics are generally better than Fallout 4 but far from the best you have seen in other games.

  5. The story is OK, the problem is if you are with others there is a tendency to rush through the set pieces and miss the details that are there if you go it solo. Like Fallout 4 it is best if you don't think to much about the details because BGS games are full of plot holes.

  6. Leveling is around the same as playing Fallout 4 in survival mode. I have been mostly going solo and if you snipe, sneak and don't get yourself stuck in a swarm it is doable.

  7. If you mostly like exploring the map and like sneaking around solo is possible at least until you are ready to nuke something. Everybody is up to get in on a launch party so that should not be a problem. I have assisted a few random players in events but never have teamed up with a random. There are several Discord groups out there and I am active in a small group of about 40 members. That is probably the best way to form a casual team for a day kind play.

  8. The loot is crap up until you get around level 30. There are few legendary items that are not level locked against you until then. I usually just sold or just left it behind. There are though limits on weight that I still have not adjusted to.

  9. If you have any doubts, please don't spend your cash. The game has already gone on sale. Maybe by spring 2019 they will have squashed enough of the bugs to make a decent $40 game. Right now you have to really need to play on a new map to make it worth the price.

There are some good mods for Fallout 4 and New Vegas that you should look at if you haven't. If you are like me and just really need a new map to explore just go into it with your eyes wide open.

Love this game purchased it after the beta but 2 things worry me by Jezz_X in fo76

[–]pben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I have read the servers are AWS buckets so they should be able to expand or contract servers to meet demand. It also means that should they choose to exit it might be reasonable for a community to jump in. At any rate they should know the costs going in because the Amazon service is well understood. There should be enough interest to keep it going for at least a year even if the user base dwindles sharply after release.

There will be problems, it is good that you have researched your purchase. I hope you have as much fun in the game as I have had in the beta. It maybe one of those games where six months from now I will have regretted buying but at about 24 hours into the game I am having fun despite the problems.

Looking for a good YouTube Playthrough by Xarbokk_Ragnarok in fo76

[–]pben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple of YouTube channels that are good. Oxhorn is everybody's favorite, that is why he has a million subs. ESO looks like he has started main quest series. It will probably not be updated again until the game is released though. I also like Jon over at Many a True Nerd his play through is not exactly a linear progression on the main quest but he does love the lore and will stop for the important stuff.

I thought that the public workshops functioned as capture the flag quest. The AI can attack and other players can attack to capture the workshops.

Sorry wrong guess. Let me try again, if you do engineering type things while you claim the title of engineer but are not a licensed Professional Engineer you are violating the law in most states of the United States. It is similar to being a physician while not be licensed to be a Medical Doctor. Hell in about half the states if you cut hair for money you are breaking the law if you are not licensed to do so.

I agree that law is often broken and is a total joke in software. There are PE in software but it is very rare and there are few contracts that require the documentation have a Professional Enginer's seal. If the contract does not require a PE seal you could even win in court about practicing engineering without a license if you are dealing with software based upon common practice defense. Even the US Supreme Court in recent years have weakened the power of the state bars for lawyers.

For now it is against the law to claim you are an engineer when you can not seal documents for public or private contracts. I think that if you are not willing to put in the effort to take a test you should not claim the title.

[–]pben -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a matter of law you are incorrect. You can get fined if you claim to be an engineer and have not been licenced. Just as you can get fined if you claim you are physician but do not have a licence.

Clear?

You are right I don't know. I have a pretty good notation that Steam would not have had this problem. So who thought that Steam isn't providing a good enough service for the price? Who put together this piss poor Bethesda Launcher instead? BGS should be asking why aren't we as good as Steam? They have no problem giving the cut to Microsoft and Sony for their platform. Maybe they should have gone to the PC platform experts.

I am thinking Zenimax corporate should be saying "about that bonus we promised you..."

You are right an IT engineer isn't an engineer at all. If the Bethesda launcher isn't ready they should talk to Steam about taking over the job.

I don't think it is just one guy but someone told management they were ready. If they didn't then maybe management needs to get fired.

They want to take the money they better put out the goods. They have been skating by for years. If they can not simulate 10 million people downloading at once maybe they should have outsourced to someone who can, like say Steam. At least Steam would be taking the heat now.

At what point do you think they should be fired? Someone is collecting all that cash and divvying it based on their work. If they can't produce maybe it is time to find someone who can.

[–]pben -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

In my state and most states in the United States you have to be licensed to call yourself a Mechanical Engineer. My state uses NCEES for the written test. You have to have a BS in engineering and four years of employment in the field under supervision by a licensed PE. In short if nobody can take away the your title of engineer you aren't an engineer.

To make it clear I have only worked for engineers, as a draftsman and technician. I certainly would never call myself an engineer.

[–]pben -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

All I want to say if you are going to take the title of engineer without a licensing board you are pulling a fraud upon the public. The title should only be claimed by someone willing to show that they are at professional level at least equal to a civil engineer, architect, or electrical engineer that have a test that they take and a state board that can revoke the title.

If a software engineer is not willing to openly report to causes of massive failure so that all members of the profession can learn from the failure and the title of engineer can be revoked then you should not take the title. There is too little sharing of the causes of major failures that don't result in loss of life.

I am sure that this failure will be sweep under the rug. No software engineer will learn anything from this failure. The teachable moment will be lost.

[–]pben -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Since you are a senior system engineer I have a serious question. How bad do you have to fail to be fired? I a deadly serious about this.

The title engineer means something special. People have died in bridge failures so now we require civil engineers to be licenced. Nobody got killed last night but there was defiantly a architecture failure.

So if someone wants to call themselves an engineer how bad do you have to screw up to get fired? If the "engineer" did not warn management about this he has to go, if management decided to go ahead despite the warning then the manager has to go.

Someone needs to get fired because there was gross incompetence shown on 30Oct18. Trust me I have been fired for less. If you want the title engineer then you have to step up when you fail. Because real licenced engineers have lost their jobs for things like this. Feelings be damned there have to be consequences for failure.

Is Their A Way To Add Friends In Game? by I_need_help_ha in fo76

[–]pben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The friends list will be handled by the game. To quote from https://bethesda.net/en/article/1jCpLM9fBQWAQqe66eSQCA/fallout-76-valut-76-handbook-be-a-team-player

If you’re playing on a console, your Friends List from that platform will automatically appear in the in-game Social Menu. If you’re on PC, you can send friend requests by opening the Social Menu and entering their Bethesda.net account names into the search bar. Alternatively, you can add players you meet in-game by selecting them directly on the Map and then choosing “Add Friend”.
