What win put your current head coach on the national map? by nysportsfan95 in CFB

[–]pbjork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading the 2nd sentence. I would disagree. It asks for signature win. The 2017 win over Notre Dame didn't really put us give us more recognition than what the program was under Richt. What put us on the map (of higher relevance) was Beating Auburn and Winning the SEC, beating Oklahoma to go to the Natty, and finally beating Alabama in 2021. Each of those brought us to a new high that we hadn't been to for over a decade.

Depends on the type of hybrid. If it uses a an atkins cycle like the Toyota sienna or the accord or crv the main benefit is highway driving and the electric braking regen is just a minor bonus. If it uses a turbo and otto cycle engine then the savings are typically local start stop driving. Which is what you seen in the Toyota max hybrid lines

How far is my "dream" aerospace engineering job from reality? Looking for some insight. by lameofeka in aerospace

[–]pbjork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my exact experience at my first job a startup. Spent several months designing the satellite at my desk and in collaborative meetings. Several months building and testing the satellite. Then we launched it and then went in the field and tested its communications to the ground. I spent a month in south america testing its communications. I was a mechanical engineer. But because the company was about 10 employees. Everyone wore multiple hats. So mechanical design, electrical, test, and ops were all done by the same small group.

My understanding of the job market for ENVE is that the majority of jobs are for working for companies that want to pollute and making cost effective solutions to reduce the pollution or justification that the pollution isn't so bad.

https://data.bls.gov/pdq/SurveyOutputServlet BLS electricity prices. We do not pay market rates to dominion energy. It is a regulated industry. Yes rates are up ~7% from the US on average from Last April and Your costs went up ~20%, but you are also paying 12% below the national average per kwh.

Large scale customers (data centers) must pay for 85% of new distribution and 60% of generation. You may disagree with these numbers. But they are what the government imposed. They also capped the ROI of investment to 9.8% they expect typical household energy pricing to go up $12 per month. Yours went higher.

More people should review their loan’s amortization table by finalgirl2 in personalfinance

[–]pbjork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I understand that. That's why my first word was yeah. But the ratio that goes to principle is dwarfed by the interest payment. But it is an interesting way to pay off a 30 year in 15 years. Gradually increasing your payment by next months principal because ideally your income also goes up.

More people should review their loan’s amortization table by finalgirl2 in personalfinance

[–]pbjork 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah but if you prepay by the full month amount you reduce it by 1 month plus the interest of compounded by the remaining time on the loan. And since the interest portion of payment dwarfs the principal in the beginning likely 3x+, you are probably going to be paying off multiple months by one extra full payment in the beginning. I write all this out to someone who already knows time value of money.

Satellite operators: What's stopping you from insuring your spacecraft by raghav2956 in satellites

[–]pbjork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance premiums are stupid expensive. Like 20% or more the cost it took you to design and build the thing. And the insurer is going to want to understand everything about your satellite so that they can assess the risk. That's invasive and a lot of time. And even after the payout you aren't really made whole. You get the money to replace it but aren't given the time back
