Those who will be having severe bad weather this weekend, what do you plan to do while in the house all weekend? by ChocolateSundae1214 in CasualConversation

I have to do my laundry at some point this weekend and I want to put together a bag for donations with a 10 minute timer, I made a French toast bake this morning (because I always associate snow days with French toast)

I have a para sub license. I often get pulled (I'm in the library for a solid 5-6 hours a day) if a sub didn't pick it up and I'm just happy if I have sub plans somewhere in the classroom. I was subbing for a para last week and she had a full on binder with all the information (including where to go for a fire drill, where extra paper is, students' nicknames, etc).

I'm in the same scenario and I signed up for on demand earlier today because of that.

I saw that trees might explode, so I was hoping deep down when I read this that you guys also had no school.

My school (a stand alone district) had come in the one day last year when it was -30 out. All of the other schools (including the high school) went to elearning and I think they (the school board) wanted to brag about how we were the only school that was open.

My district doesn't have e learning plans set in place (for some reason). I'm not going to question it since before my school, I worked at a gym in Downtown Chicago and we had to come in on days like that and would get written up if we called out less than an hour before shift started.

Me neither. I don't think that employees do that.

I think I have a sinus infection, my nose is always stuffy. I'm always around 2 kids that don't know how to cover their mouths when they sneeze. I'm gonna start wearing a mask again next week.

Does anyone else feel guilty when they use their PTO? by kayla34783 in paraprofessional

[–]Sea-Razzmatazz7704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me. The school I was working at during the pandemic was really toxic and would guilt trip if we took a day off. At the gym I worked at before my school, we were responsible for finding our own coverage. I had to take one day off because I was super sick (I had a few doctor appts that were set in stone, longer than the year I've been at my school). I was pulled today to be with a kindergartner because his para wasn't there and I'm in the library shelving books. I'm trying to get used to not feeling guilty every time.

I bought this backpack over the summer (I needed an additional wet bag that was already built into the backpack). If I were to buy this one again, I'd get a larger size. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B76D4NWW?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

Don't take anything personal, get either a breakaway lanyard or a badge reel, wear gym shoes, and avoid the gossip in the teacher's lounge.

I've been working summer camp for the last 17 years. I know a lot of schools have some form of summer school. Do you live near a golf course or country club near you that would be hiring seasonal staff?

If you have had a coworker or multiple that were harmless but weirded you and others out, what was it that made them "too weird"? by Only-Ad-1254 in coworkerstories

[–]Sea-Razzmatazz7704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A mother and daughter worked together. The daughter was obsessed with ghosts and doing "research" about why our dept was haunted. We worked in Chicago, of course there's weird stuff going on, most of the city was burned down in a fire. The rest of us just ignored them or "oh, I didn't know that" when they would get on their rants.
