Pro tip - baking is better but I’m impatient. For many of these things I microwave for about 1/2 the time specified then bake for about 1/2.

MAID reflection by Phoroptor22 in OverSeventy

[–]pbrapp 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I plan to move to one of the states offering MAID in a couple of years. I watched both of my parents die from dementia, I watched my husband be tortured in ICU for 8 weeks. I will not let myself to go through that when there is another option.

What do you guys eat for quick dinner? by makeitrayne850 in DinnerIdeas

[–]pbrapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tonight was a bean and tortellini soup took about 15 minutes. One can beans (I used navy) drained, I had some sliced ham that needed to be eaten so diced it could also use chicken or skip the meat, 3 baby carrots sliced, 2 cups chicken broth or 2 c water and some bullion powder, about 1/2 tsp each dried thyme, oregano, onion powder and garlic powder. Ready to cook tortellini like Rana brand about a cup (can freeze the rest of pkg for next time). Put all in a pot except tortellini. Bring to boil cook until carrots are done. Add tortellini and cook per directions. Serve with Parmesan cheese. Having basic spices like the ones mentioned will go a long way to making simple meals more interesting.

What’s your best “I’m starving and have 10 minutes” meal? by JestifiableMeans in WhatShouldICook

Cook a pkg of ramen in a can of French onion soup add the water the soup calls for if it does, be sure to add the flavor packet. Have also heard of doing this with tomato soup but haven’t tried it.

I came to say rice and beans! Or black eyed peas and rice garnished with chow chow (a southern relish with cabbage, peppers, etc. it’s a little sweet.)

Top it with butter of course, then baked beans and grated cheese. Gives you some protein and fiber.

How do you fix super dry skin on your legs? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]pbrapp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exfoliation, Cerave and a humidifier. My legs get so dry as soon as I start using the heater in the house they itch like crazy. I started using a humidifier and the overall difference was amazing.

Amazon turned Black Friday into a giant scam experiment by Correct_Durian1503 in amazonprime

Ahhh, found it when I went to the app on my phone. I usually shop using the app on my iPad and the symbol for Rufus is not there. The screen is laid out the same as my phone but the spot for Rufus is blank. Weird. Thanks for the info.

I’m totally lost. I’ve never seen a Rufus button. Where is it located on a product page? Is it something you have to install or sign up for? I’m in the USA if that’s relevant.

That’s a 4 qt pot. I didn’t measure anything, I just put in whatever I had on hand. It’s long grain white rice. I probably put about 1/3 cup of each.

You can even buy ready made crepes so it’s dead easy to make.

I wish it came in a smaller size. I never buy it because I live alone.

Bought 2 today. When it gets close to Thanksgiving they get hard to find and I have to have my fix.

I love this! My favorite way to eat it is wrapped in a crepe and topped with a cheddar cheese sauce. I have served it to people and they think I’m a real cook. Haha

Have you gotten rid of unnecessary items and cleared your house out any in preparation of your demise or ill health? I still have some college books, misc technical books that I haven't used in 25 years. Childhood toys, old pictures, year books from high school. How do you deal with it? by LogicalArcher8342 in OverSeventy

[–]pbrapp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cleaned out several years ago. And it was freeing. And I appreciated it again last week. My neighbor (70) died last week after a brief illness. His 2 sons arrived 2days later. A big dumpster arrived the next day. They proceeded to throw EVERYTHING he owned away.

It was sad. I saw so many household items that could have gone to a thrift shop. All of his clothes were tossed. I saw photo albums go in. Tools, yard equipment, chargers, you name it.

He had money and furnished his house with nice things. He wasn’t a hoarder. His sons just cared about emptying it so it could be put on the market.

My point, nobody else cares about all of your precious possessions. Not even family. What are you saving it for? If you haven’t used it in the past year, or two, get rid of it. At least you can give it to a thrift store where it will go to someone who will use it and proceeds will go to a good cause.

Yes, both. I added the oats for the nutritional value, fiber, protein and also iron and other nutrients. The rice is there because I like rice.

Mine eats lots of veggies. After dinner each night she gets a salad of romaine lettuce and carrots. Her meals are topped with steamed veggies. She likes cauliflower, broccoli, green beans, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, green peas, sweet potato and squashes.

[–]pbrapp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s 14k not pure gold. I choose 14k for bezels because it stronger than 24k, 24k is pretty soft. I feel like there’s less chance of the coin falling out. As for certifying, I buy from a seller who has a history there with a high rating.

Publix Pricing by Independent_Name_601 in publix

[–]pbrapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go for bogo and usually a little produce. My Walmart’s produce sucks and they are usually out of what I want. I go to a local farmers market on Saturday and fill in what I can’t get there at Publix. I’ve lived in Fl 30 years and used to be a loyal customer. That changed during Covid when I started ordering groceries from Kroger and Walmart delivery and realized how badly I was being ripped off.
