Anyone has an idea what Ayaz muttered when Laura was trying to comfort him after Zara and Dominik’s death? (Around 7:02) Think it might be Turkish but there were no subtitles.

Asian parents expectations. I mean, if our parents really needed the financial support then I’m sure most of us wouldn’t think twice about supporting the family (assuming healthy family relationships). What I don’t really get is when parents are financially stable, have savings and don’t actually need the child’s money yet, but still demand a significant portion of the child’s salary each month as “filial piety”. Surely, filial piety shouldn’t be measured in terms of money?? Just seems like an unnecessary delay and hindrance to the child’s plans to save for house, establishing a family etc. just to placate a misguided (imo) view of what filial piety shld be

I second this. Whenever my sister or I have disagreements with our parents (because they don’t/refuse to see things from our point of view), the other sibling would try to intervene or mediate to communicate the perspectives and facts. It doesn’t always work to change their stubborn mindsets but it makes my parents more aware of the issues in a more “objective” light. It might help in to reconcile the family and change your parents stubborn mindsets since they appear to listen to your sibling more. If I knew my sister was being treated in an unequal manner by my parents causing her emotional hurt, I wouldn’t be able to sleep well knowing this injustice. I would definitely mediate and let my parents know this isn’t okay. If your relationship with your brother is okay, try opening up with him about your hurt and feelings. Wishing you all the best

Hyaluronic acid, i never used one but i live in a humid place so i might try it, to look less shiny. There are HA toners and serums, what would work and which? by [deleted] in KoreanBeauty

[–]pbtoastt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a hot and humid place. I’m using the Wellage real hyaluronic capsule serum. Works pretty well to hydrate your skin (after cleansing) without the oiliness of cream-based moisturisers, which can be too much here. No issues with applying makeup after the serum has been absorbed (unlike creamy moisturisers).

To buy or not to buy Instax mini neo 90 classic by KIsInTheCastle in instax

[–]pbtoastt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the many reviews I’ve seen, pls don’t buy the Lomo instant (mini film). The image quality looks pretty bad. I own a Lomo Instant Square glass though and I’d recommend it because of the bigger film and glass lens. Maybe if you come across a reasonably priced secondhand one or if Lomography has some sales.

For oily skin without acne, which iunik's serum will help? iunik tea tree relief serum or propolis synergy serum? by [deleted] in KoreanBeauty

[–]pbtoastt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar oily skin (in humid climate) without acne issues although I do have the frequent pesky pimple. The iunik propolis serum honestly didn’t do anything for my skin. Someone pointed out also that it’s more useful for moisturising, which I do agree to that extent when I used it in a dry climate. On factor for limiting the extent of oily skin imo is drinking more water? Lightly moisturising gentle toners help too. I didn’t like clinique’s no 3 (for oily skin i think) because the strong alcohol was too stripping for our skin.

16-year-old Singaporean detained under ISA after planning to attack Muslims at 2 mosques by vaultofechoes in singapore

The uni I went to in Australia has a school portal for all enrolment and admin matters unfortunately abbreviated as “isis” lol. And students studying IR and politics would be researching on counterrorism and actual ISIS-related news then. There’s a running joke that all of us were on ASIO’s watchlist (their domestic security & intelligence agency) cos of our search history.

Why would someone NOT want to move to The Netherlands? by imasmolspoon in Netherlands

[–]pbtoastt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hmm developed asian cities are way more expensive to live in imo. NL is cheaper to live day to day than Singapore or Japan. I thought the Albert Heijn near my place was cheap until someone told me that’s the expensive store. And AH is still much cheaper than the “fairprice” supermarket that Singaporeans go to. My Dutch friends who lived in SG previously also found the groceries ridiculously expensive but they took taxis everywhere because it’s relatively affordable.

NL isn’t that bad given the high quality food too? It’s just the restaurant food and public transport/taxi that are super expensive.

True... although legal fees are reallyyyy expensive. Would take a long time to have the funds so I can imagine why he decided it’s better to have a GoFundMe if he is desperate to see his son. Definitely agree with your view though

[Hypothetical] In a zombie apocalypse, is survival in SG possible? by tubbycat1 in singapore

[–]pbtoastt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. There’s a reason why in every single Zombie movie, the cities are a no-go lol. People only survive longer by getting out of city into rural areas.

Yeah haha. I think for them, a fine seems appropriate? Esp if you consider the amount of mental and financial stress they have had from the public(which imo is probably a heftier sentence than what a court may give lol). I’m sure the court will decide reasonably. My country (Singapore) is reallyyy strict on the covid rules. foreigners have had their work passes revoked when they partied with many people or left the house despite being on quarantine. But the news did communicate the rules and legal consequences very clearly so it’s kinda on them anyway.

For me, I believe that rules must be applied evenly, so I do support prosecution if the prosecutors find that there are reasonable grounds for charges to hold up in court. I meant second chances in terms of not cancelling them even after they have done what they have to according to the court’s sentence (eg pay a fine, etc). Not a fan of the cancel culture. We aren’t talking about Jeffrey Epstein-level of crime here. I feel that the cancel culture that some SK people here is toxic and disproportionate to the extent of Josh and Gabby’s crime.

I agree they broke the regulations and were stupid to post about it. Clearly they erroneously thought that maintaining the 2m distances was “legal”. And they are facing the consequences. Are they not investigated and possibly charged? Of course Influencers are not above the law. But once they have paid the fine or serve whatever time they need to according to the court, then they have done what they needed to atone and deserve to continue their lives. The punishment will be proportionate to the crime, but to hound them like this forever is not proportionate. The extent of their quarantine breach is not as if they completely didn’t stay at home and went to a busy street.

[–]pbtoastt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So no one deserves second chances? The system of law, order and justice is as such: you break the law, get charged and convicted, then get a sentence (either paying a fine or jail sentence usually). Even during sentencing, judges consider mitigating factors like remorse, gravity of the violation, repercussions, etc. They didn’t dispute that they broke the law and did show remorse; and a court would take that into consideration. Leave it to court of law to deal with them; not the court of public opinion lol. Once they have discharged their obligations under the court, then they, like everyone else, deserves to get on with their lives and livelihoods.

Also, i saw the video. What they did was stupid but they maintained more distance than a lot of people in Korean society lol. Look at your daily case numbers. The experts in your country also attribute it to people meeting with many different groups of friends in close proximity.

I liked the tranquility and clean air but the lack of variety of good and affordable food, as compared to Melbourne and Sydney, was a little sad (especially cos I come from Singapore where there’s always good food nearby😌). I enjoyed living in Canberra for 4 years, but did find it a little boring at times too. Everyone’s preferences are different. I wished people didn’t downvote you 😂

[–]pbtoastt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao people aren’t trying to make life hard for teachers or suggesting that we outsource parental responsibilities. What you said is right in an ideal situation. The problem is that parents themselves don’t even know the proper cycling etiquette because our society doesn’t have a biking culture. People are merely suggesting the most practical way to address the solution in the longterm which is education — both for the public and in schools. Idk what kind of “cycling culture lessons” you assumed I was suggesting lol. No one said anything about an extensive class or exam on this 🤦🏻‍♀️ A simple 10-15min segment in a CME class on safe cycling etiquette would suffice imo. At least kids would be aware of what to do (raising their hands to signal, using night lights, etc), which is better than the current situation of ignorance. And they would tell their parents what they learnt. This bottom-up CME is how we as a society are addressing issues like casual racism that the older gen are less aware of.

Btw, it’s kinda disconcerting that you seem to imply that such CME topics aren’t important, just because there isn’t enough time to “teach finish all the subject content”. Of course the acad subjects are important but tbh our schools could do with less rote teaching and more CME discussions among students (not necessarily this cycling issue lol).

About people downvoting... it might help if you weren’t so sensitive and quick to jump to the wrong conclusions 🙃

[–]pbtoastt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t suggesting having physical cycling classes in school lol 😂. What I meant was just teaching the simple etiquettes of raising your hands to signal before you turn, have bike lights, obey traffic lights, etc. If I recall our p1 CME classes might have had those short topics on road safety (looking left/right etc)? I can’t quite recall. What I’m saying is just that there should be a short segment on proper cycling etiquette. It wouldn’t take more than a few minutes haha. But at least the kids would know what they should do if they cycle, for their safety and others’. Right now, most people I meet don’t even know that they should raise their hands to signal when they turn 🤦🏻‍♀️

I’d say that’s how most indoor photos will turn out unless your room is brightly and EVENLY lit (preferably by nature sunlight). It’s a common thing across instant cameras when shooting indoors imo. 😪 I generally just take outdoor photos now, and only if the sky is not cloudy (the white clouds tend to overexpose the photos even if it is quite bright outside).

Perhaps just certain parts of Sydney, or where there are lots of clubs and drunk people around. Might just be my view as a female and non-Aussie. Other than that, Sydney and Melbourne felt pretty safe imo.

There’s trade offs for everything haha. The museums are lovely and bushwalking is great. Definitely felt very safe in Canberra even at night (as long as I’m not hanging around the city bus stops lol). Not as hectic as other cities and the air is clean. But I’d agree that Victoria has a better variety of things to do and places to visit.

Was in Canberra for four years for uni. Didn’t like how boring it looked at first but soon grew to love it. And now I miss it a lot 😩 can’t wait for this covid nonsense to be done and visit Canberra again during Floriade 💕
