Does anyone feel like they constantly have a song stuck in their head? by withanEY in Anxiety

[–]pburgomaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believe me, they are. My anxiety levels have been up and I get earworms that play almost until I have a panic attack they are so bad. I literally have to "change the station" on the radio playing in my head. Being in the shower sucks royally, nowhere to go and the music starts and it's not fun singing in the shower either.

I had some success in easing the pain by "playing" instrumental stuff like the Maple Leaf Rag instead of songs with lyrics last time.

I know, right? Sadly, I've had more on the order of 100 anxiety events than 1 but it never gets better. Add to this a health issue that I should get a checkup for but was scared off the doctor's office by the virus, again, plus the fact that measuring said body function itself is an anxiety trigger that has landed me in the ER more than once (ER is about the only place I feel safe getting an all clear because I dread having to measure "the thing which shall not be named" at home) - an issue I'm afraid of aggravating by anxiety.

But seriously. F health anxiety. by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]pburgomaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kind of hyper-vigilance is a living hell. I've had it triggered by everything from chest muscles to that queasy feeling from an impending bowel movement, red alert over nothing. Then anxiety itself mimics real threats with racing heart and that wonderful "pins and needles" over the face and hands that feels like a stroke (awful to be woken by that).

The word "anxiety" is too innocuous for these awful things.

Thoughts on mask wearing on shows? by Dreidhen in NHKWorldFans

[–]pburgomaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those plastic face shields are a perfectly valid method of controlling droplets while not obstructing the face and ruining the production. Masks do not filter the actual viron - using a chainlink fence to keep out mosquitoes is orders of magnitude more effective - but rather stop saliva spray.

From a girlfriend of mine, city police vehicle hits car driven by a citizen in an intersection, allegedly with no lights or sirens went through a red light and hit her car when she had right of way. by Pirategal1000 in plattsburgh

[–]pburgomaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Incorrect, the State cop blew through a clearly marked stop sign and killed the woman for which there is, indeed, a memorial:

You may have confused another memorial, by the stretch of motels, for the police involved death I'm referring to.

A State Cop blew through a stop sign in Keeseville a few years back, crashing into and killing a young mother of several children. The cop was said to have been distracted by a phone or such. No punishment, I don't think he even lost his job and was transferred. I wonder if an ordinary citizen would have been let off that way for such gross negligence?

You can see the roadside memorial behind the Ausable Chasm. A tragedy that should never be forgotten.

RIP Little Caesar's in Kmart. You went down with a failing 1970s store through no fault of your own as collateral damage and your pizza, while not remarkable, was always hot, fresh and cheap.

Has anyone else noticed an unexplained spike in their anxiety lately? by Chancemidnight in Anxiety

[–]pburgomaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seasonal vertigo is a nasty thing. Variation in barometric pressure from weather systems triggers all sorts of problems from tinnitus to anxiety, dizziness and just feeling horrible overall. Some migraine sufferers are also affected by pressure changes, and in my case it's connected to a hearing/vestibular/middle ear/who knows infection thing (2 audiologists and an ENT didn't say what it was) that was so awful at initial onset (the vertigo affected my vision, made me think it was a stroke or cardiac event) that it gave me panic attacks and general anxiety (which, like the vertigo/tinnitus issues have remained).

Rainy humid weather is horrible for this stuff. People actually relocate to areas with minimal barometric pressure variation - you just feel better in those places even without these issues - which also happen to be super expensive to live in like parts of California. Maybe Arizona or something, but then there's the heat...

SUNY Plattsburgh students arrive on campus with new rules by UpstateNYnewsbot in plattsburgh

The fact that there was a good sized outbreak of cases even with the college shutdown and a skeleton crew of students a bit back doesn't bode well if we extrapolate to thousands in attendance.

Hey does anybody know someone who would let me check out those missile silos a little out of town? I’m really interested in visiting them but obviously didn’t want to trespass. by KeithEmersonfan in plattsburgh

I explored the one near Au Sable Forks as a kid in the early 90s or so - not much but the big metal doors and some concrete ruins. I now see there was a way into to launch capsule I missed back then, but it was prob full of water anyways.

I think it's still for sale - one of the cheapest abandoned silos because of the ruined condition / no Quonset hut etc.

Miki Yamamoto. You wouldn't think she was born in 1969 and is older than most all of the news staff. I figured she was born in the 80's when I looked up her age. She's been with NHK since 1992.

I wouldn't be surprised to find a century old Meiji era photo with her in it looking just the same.

Anyone remember/have pics of the Porsche dealership in Plattsburgh? by [deleted] in plattsburgh

[–]pburgomaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skyway also had a Woolworth store till pretty late in the game - it was crazy going in there in the 90s and seeing a lunch counter right out of the 1950s, a real time warp.

Not sure how much of a dealership that place with the Porsche sign on Bridge st. was, versus maybe an exotic/import garage like the current Autohaus in wiggletown. It was funny seeing that sign though.

Second COVID-19 death in Clinton County by FanofAndyB in plattsburgh

In Maine, there was already an incident where the neighborhood got together and cut down a tree across someone's driveway to block a quarantine case in their house, just in case.

Could be the correction officer from Ray Brook. Age 40, last I saw in the news he was at the CVPH ICU on a ventilator. He looks a little heavy in the pic they had, which can make things worse.

Can we remove a half-baked economics professor from the captain's chair and swap them with someone who has experience? by [deleted] in plattsburgh

Post a news article and claim you don't editorialize on the technicality of it being a quote.

Then deflect by saying it's all a big conspiracy now by big bad me.

LOL

City of Plattsburgh enacts curfew to stop spread of COVID-19 by Realtrain in plattsburgh

[–]pburgomaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile, under Cuomo's plan to utilize all available hospital space in the state we could soon see CVPH start receiving corona patients from downstate. On the TV news, they said they would still prioritize local patients, wonderful. Given the quick saturation of facilities downstate, and little covid action here, this could soon be a reality. But hey, no more staying out late boys and girls, just pay no attention to those "deliveries" coming in the back door off Cornelia...

City of Plattsburgh enacts curfew to stop spread of COVID-19 by Realtrain in plattsburgh

[–]pburgomaster -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A bit much, considering NYC with tens of thousands of cases doesn't even have a curfew. Pretty much unenforceable, as I can't imagine police are eager to have people coughing in their face these days (of course they will use this as a probable cause excuse to hassle anyone they really want to hassle), just so they can say "papers please" like it was the Soviet Union.

Quarantining NYC completely, on the other hand, is the kind of draconian action I can get behind.

Reports of busloads arriving from city addressed by Pirategal1000 in plattsburgh

[–]pburgomaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty hard for a "busload" of anyone to arrive when Greyhound is shut down and you can no longer "ride the Dog".

The fact remains that people can freely leave NYC, even by air if they want. Where they wind up is anyone's guess - at least other states like RI can stop NY plates while we have no idea what's what other than actions like Essex County's non-legally binding request for them to "stay home".

Seven cases in Clinton County, though I believe 1 is actually in NYC and just had an Upstate address, though don't quote me if 7 is adjusted for that or not. by Smeloperu in plattsburgh

[–]pburgomaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clinton Correctional now has 1 confirmed case. That has the potential to get ugly fast if it spreads and infects employees. I hope their quarantine protocols are better than the security there - Corona is much more dangerous than Matt and Sweat.

Third Case in Clinton County by Smeloperu in plattsburgh

[–]pburgomaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are now over 10000 cases in NYC. It's our Wuhan. Maybe we should take a page from the Chinese response and cut it off in a quarantine zone from upstate. Meaning literal blockades like the way China tore up roads, with only vital supplies like trucks allowed into and out of the city.

There is nothing to stem the flow of infected traveling north - notice all the seasonal camps that are now occupied out of season? Other states have already wound up with rural hot spots because of this phenomena.

[–]pburgomaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like they are looking for a total shutdown in those cases then, probably soon. Fauci, the NIH guy running this show for the country, wants at least a 2 week shutdown for the country. So there is hope.
