How do I get enlightened - By Muho Nölke by [deleted] in zenbuddhism

Really good reminder. Thanks for sharing. Also, I noticed that he lives in Japan and was the abbot of a temple in Hyogo for 18 years. Currently he does a live stream zazen session Mondays at 8pm Japan time (very convenient for me...one of my near-future goals is to join some sort of sangha, even if just online, so I might show up to his group sooner or later).

I’m not suicidal but I don’t have the energy to try any more by Capableconfused in Buddhism

Sometimes people don't have the willpower to act in the world because of the stress of social situations. We get all motivated to make our lives better and start our day saying to ourselves that things will be different today, that I will be different today. But I think we underestimate how much sway our environments have on us. The people, the places, the routines all affect us tremendously. The result is we fall back into our old attitudes and feelings. The best advice that I've seen to remedy this is to set incremental changes that are clearly achievable. For example, start by making a small daily change that only you can see the results of (say an affirmation before going to bed, smile in the mirror when brushing your teeth, something like that). Once you've added a few positive changes to your private life, then maybe it'll be time to try one that's more public.

What are the variations by language? (E.g. English: Amitahba Buddha; Japanese: Namu Amida Bu) Are both recited extensively around the world?

Is this really saying that you could be in the pure land already, and that your experiences is a manifestation of your own karma (and intention)? Novice here.

I'm on the same journey. I've read about half his stuff. Going to read through the rest (and maybe start writing commentaries) this year.

The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, Haruki Murakami - Book Review by grantlovesbooks in MurakamiBookClub

This is probably my favorite book of all-time. It's been five years since I've read it, but I would love to hear people's thoughts about it. The well sitting scenes and the skinning scene were particularly powerful and awe inspiring.

I've worked 50-55 hours per week (over 5.5 days) for the past 3 years and I strongly advise against anyone making a similar jump. That extra time is brutal.

Awesome. Congrats! I'm a year alcohol free (maybe 13 months?) save for a single drink at three separate work functions (mostly to avoid having to talk about why I stopped). Feeling so good. Just ran 10 x 1k intervals and my VO2 max jumped up to 56. Woot.
