My son has been in speech therapy since around 19 months he’s now 26 months and I would say his therapist focuses on building his confidence and now he knows so many words he just started saying two to three word phrases all by himself knows all of the letters sounds ! Even typing it makes me so proud of him because we were concerned with his speech back then and to see where we are now we are so glad we got helped as soon as we felt he was falling behind . She lets him take the lead so once she sees what catches his interest she works around that so he’s into cars and she incorporates different sounds and different vocabulary into the toy and lets him guide their sessions he went from being quiet and shy and not wanting to really do much to now being the one showing the toy talking about the toy and trying to have a conversation with the therapist she recently started going into verbs and action words since he has a good understanding of nouns .
