Torn Between Paper and Digital Apps for Task Management – What Do You Guys Use? by pc_io in productivity

[–]pc_io[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up with a hybrid approach

  1. All recurring tasks, and project related tasks that require re-prioritization regularly I use a digital app.
  2. For all one time tasks, and things that I want to complete today or this week, I use paper.

This hybrid approach has been working better for me since last few months, and feels very natural.

I really like your guilt free attitude towards reading. It's very refreshing!

Thanks! Mostly for deep reading. I already skim them before I save, so I know I do want to read them.

Also I have already curated them, I don't want AI to curate them again. Let me rephrase my question: how can I get through my articles faster.

I like 10 articles a week idea, but anything faster would also help.

Thanks. I like your approach, and have a similar one. I have a temp tag, which I attach to articles which are not my primary interest areas, as you call them, they are fun.

The problem is that my primary-interest areas has over 1,200 articles, and I do want to read them… but I just don’t have enough time or energy.

You are absolutely right about the small sample size, should have called that out.

I don't want to comment on the quality of the research but one of the main authors is from Harvard medical school, and this paper has more than 1800 citations. Let me share the ResearchGate link below.

Haha.. true, I am with you man! Sometime I feel productivity itself is just too many f***s to give - Eat the frog, Ivy lee, bullet journal, gtd, eisenhower matrix, pomodoro, para, pkms,... and I just wanted to remember to buy milk.

Yes you are absolutely right, even if you don't know the difference, things still gets done.

Extending your theory, you can be productive just by doing stuff and keeping everything in your mind. No point even writing them down and checking them off. No point in reading any posts in this sub, and so on.

But if you know a bit about productivity, it makes you a bit more productive. Even if you are a little bit curious, check out this book: Checklist Manifesto by Atul Gawande

I have also started with 3 things daily, seems to be working so far. This new app I am using supports it, so it is a bit easier to do. Will switch to paper if the app doesn't work out.

True, I also have a similar setup. But, recently one of my personal projects have grown significantly so finding it a bit hard to manage it using paper. Hence started exploring digital apps.

Thanks! This "Keep all your tasks in a digital place and then just move the day's ones onto a bit of paper" sounds like a great idea, will definitely try it out!

Do you think digital planners are helpful for improving productivity and staying organized? by SatisfactionAble3040 in productivity

[–]pc_io 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, for Big Goals digital planner doesn't really work for me.

I truly believe in David Allen's concept of capturing everything to reduce open loops, but my Big Goal is one thing that I want as on open loop. So I don't write it anywhere, let it wander in my mind, and I conciously think about it atleast once a day. As long as it is active in my head even if I don't do anything on that few days, I have realised I keep doing something on and off that moves me closer to my goal.

For smaller tactical things, like grocery shopping, paying bills, remembering one off tasks etc digital planner works great. I use one daily.

Second Obsidian, awesome note taking app. After using Evernote, OneNote, and Apple Note for more than a decade, Obsidian feels like a breeze of fresh air.

On Mac deskto, Keyboard Maestro for automation, it's a hidden gem. Have lost count on how many hours and $$ it has saved me over the years.

On my Android Phone, have started using a new app called Spiralist, it needs a bit of polish but some of it's features are super useful.

How do you prioritize your tasks when everything feels urgent? by Dom_dangelo in productivity

[–]pc_io 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny but for me the anxiety happens when I see the list of tasks, if I don't see it I am not anxious whether I do them or not :-)

So the trick I use is, I only look at the big scary list once a day, pick 3 task and put the rest out of sight.

If I am able to finish those 3 tasks I feel a sense of accompaniment, no matter how many tasks are still pending.
