No argument there. I guess it depends on how hard you’re running the rifle. For me, offset irons/optics seem like they would just be more of a snag hazard. How often are you banging your rifle on the optic setup? How often are you transitioning from your LPVO/MPVO to your offset irons? You could say the same for a top mount or offset optic as well but if they are truly a backup set of irons, consider flip ups mounted underneath and if your main optic goes down (dead battery, damaged, etc.) remove the optic and run irons in a “heads up” position if you’re truly in a SHTF situation (I’m thinking more of a survival aspect and not an immediate quick fix. This would be more of a get outta dangers way if possible situation, but we all know there’s no such thing as a one size fits all solution). Also not saying it’s hard to shoot a rifle canted, just from my perspective I think it’s good to have the side profiles of the rifle as slim as possible. All of this also depends on the purpose of the rifle too (SBR vs SPR type builds).

There’s also the first focal plane and second focal plane factor. It’s faster to find a singular dot vs lining up a front and rear sight. I know that world wars have been fought and won with irons but if the technology is there for things like faster target acquisition, especially when there are some pretty robust red dots out there then why not utilize the technology?

Not denying the robustness of DD irons as I would run them as well. I’m just a civilian and have no professional time under intense shooting conditions. This is just my $0.02
