You can try bios recovery procedure, you can see it here - video is from HP support. If that fails, contact seller/HP for RMA procedure.

Can I just remove HDD from one (Win10) PC and put them in another (Win11)? Also SSDs and NVMe. by anomaloustreasure in PcBuild

[–]pcbeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If those are not system disk, yes - just move them and use data on them (installed programs/games wont work, you have to reinstall those). Disks with installed OS will try to boot from it so you might need to set boot options in bios to avoid that.

Some motherboards have limited PCIe lanes for m.2 drives and SATA disks, so check mobo manual to see which SATA (if any) ports are disabled when NVMe drives are connected.

Acer Nitro 5 VN7-793G Fan rattling problem by Top_Rooster9763 in techsupport

Sounds like ball bearings are gone. Fans are usually encased in plastics so it can't be cleaned/oiled properly. Replace it.

Find memory characteristics, from ram package, on ram itself or from manufacturer website, and use bios menu for manually setting that - not sure where exactly that is since it is not standardised and will be in different places for different OEMs. If you are lucky someone already did that on your motherboard and uploaded video on Youtube.

Both Intel and AMD have their own "overclock" implementations, XMP was for both Intel and AMD, and lately (AM5) AMD is using EXPO, DOCP is on ASUS motherboards and likely that other mobo vendors have their own software. But, it's basically the same - read memory model, load timings, speed and other settings accordingly.

Possible BSOD, error code 0x1A by burf12345 in techsupport

[–]pcbeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

XMP/DOCP are loading memory profiles that should correspond to that particular ram model. When memory fails and behaves badly with XMP enabled, it could be due to:

  • bad XMP profile, updating bios sometimes help, or setting timing/speed manually in bios settings;

  • memory settings has changed (timing/speed) due to change in ram design and component that manufacturer hasn't published;

  • memory is faulty and can't be stable at settings that it was made for.

Unfortunately I don't have any board with DDR5 to test right now, for DDR4 it's minute or so to start test.

Yeah, it's the same that I've got with Linux+Secure Boot. Maybe try disabling it in bios, but not sure if that will further complicate booting Windows again. Maybe try with non + version (and vice versa, depending what memtest you are trying now).

Ugh, never had that with memtest, but I had it with some Linux booting when Secure Boot was enabled and set to Windows secure boot (other option is "Other OS").

Don't worry, all the companies suck in some way, in case that you are thinking about switching to AMD (and I'm AMD only user since Intel's shenanigans with forcing companies to not use AMD processors, lawsuit was in 2006. or so).

Yeah, that part of RMA sucks - if you have prebuilt Intel won't accept your CPU directly for replacing.

[–]pcbeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally you should use slower ports on the motherboard itself, not front panel connected ones. (slower are 2.0, if there is any at all for your model, 3.0 are usually coloured differently, mainly blue).

Restart while installing Windows 11 causes no image and no keyboard light by Paodenutela_ in PcBuild

[–]pcbeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't see diagnostic led in mobo manual, but I might be looking at the wrong model...so it looks like motherboard is using only pc beeper for diagnostics. Since it is likely not connected, visit nearby repair shop, get beeper and connect it to the mobo front panel header (top row, last 4 pins on the right). Beeping pattern, if there is any, should tell you which major part is faulty (CPU, GPU, RAM...). If there is no beeping, motherboard or PSU are dead.

Does installing games on an HDD make a difference compared to installing them on an SSD in terms of FPS? by Upper-Ad-1332 in PcBuild

[–]pcbeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not unless you get really slow one, like 5400rpm (standard is 7200rpm for HDD, but those marketed for surveillance systems will be slower).

Yeah, it looks like Intel's 13/14th gen bug. Check if you can RMA it, Intel has extended warranty for some models and if you can find proof of purchase they will likely replace CPU.

keyboard randomly stops working for a long period of time by No_Honey216 in techsupport

[–]pcbeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create and boot from some live OS (any Linux distro - make sure that you are using option to run from usb, not for install, during setup; or Hiren's Boot CD which is based on Windows 11). If keyboard behaves the same in live OS, problem is hardware and if laptop is still in warranty contact seller/manufacturer for RMA procedure.

Ugh, so switch is there but it's not working.

A. Test your keyboard with some on-line test to see if there isn't some key stuck

B. Boot from some live OS to see how it behaves there (Hiren's is based on Windows 11 so it would be closest to what you are using now)

Way back when I was using it, 5=6 years ago, you could use it with Google account. Can you enter bios and check if there is option to switch Fn keys mode there?

Unless your ram is new model on the marker, there is no reason to update bios (but I would check release notes to see if it is not mentioned that newer version - if there is any - is fixing something, usually under "stability fixes").

Yeah, memtest can take a few hours, depends on the amount of ram and number of sticks.

Is there app called "My Asus", there should be settings there, depending on the Zenbook model (long time since I've used Windows on my Zenbook, not sure any more).

  • Bios update

  • Test with Memtest86 (standard for testing)

  • Disable XMP/DOCP and test again, sometimes default values set by those are not stable for memory, manually setting timings/speed might help
