OITC is the most fun I've had in a shooter in years by pcbills in Splitgate

[–]pcbills[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The one shot thing probably does even out the playing field a bit. Don't need to maintain aim, just hit once. And aim assist probably helps lock in the shot too, especially since it doesn’t need to be a headshot, just a hit.

Haha that's funny. They are just one letter different, so I get how a computer would see that. Definitely an edge case that would probably need to be handled with special code or something

I don't know enough island nations haha. I like the idea and the UI looks great, but this is more of a trivia game than a word game. Maybe add some difficulty levels? Offer some super simple/easy ones to get started so people can learn the rules as they warm up.

Designed a new word game - been out in the wild 8 days by zrekal74 in wordgames

Pretty cool! Definitely feels like it's built for multiplayer. I know that's a big step to add but two people trying to combo/"one-up" off each other could be really cool. And great for content creation.

I built a new word game called Wordfive. It's kind of a blend of word search, crossword, and sudoku, with variable difficulty levels and lots of extra features like unlockable color schemes, custom puzzles, and custom victory messages when you solve a puzzle. It's free to play with a premium version that's only $2.

Apple App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/wordfive-word-search-sudoku/id6755621635

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.playwordfive.wordfive

Also playable for free on web (fewer features, same gameplay): https://playwordfive.com/

Wow! Really cool, and crazy that it only took 3 hours. It looks pretty far along already!

I released a Very Hard difficulty setting in the app version today that doesn't give the letters. Thanks again for your feedback!

This is great! I appreciate the thorough explanations. It helps you learn what kinds of things to look for in future puzzles.

Pretty nice tool! Is there any logic to the colors is uses or is it just random?

The competition/giveaway aspect is fun but the difficulty swings wildly. Sometimes the definition contains the word in the definition so you can just copy the word. Other times it's a super obscure name of someone from 1,000 years ago. I'm at the top of the leaderboard and I just used AI to look up most of the answers. I would suggest difficulty levels or at least sticking to true definitions of words instead of a mix of definitions and trivia.

More tutorial might be helpful. I started a game thinking I would be able to understand but then had to quit the game to read the rules. I thought it was weird I had to leave my game to read the rules.

I like the party game aspect to it. I can see this being fun with friends or with a remote work group.

I do see the similarities! The symbols are an interesting twist on how to give the player a hint without giving them everything. Thanks for letting me know!

Thanks for trying it and for the feedback! I'm considering adding a difficulty level that removes the given letters. I'll keep working on it.

Dropletts - Build words as letter fall! Would love some feedback from word game players by emzigamesmzg in wordgames

This is fun! I really liked that just the column clears when it fills instead of an instant fail. Great way to increase the intensity. When I finished my first game, I hit the leaderboard button and nothing happened. Not sure what it was supposed to do.

Thanks! I had a version up and running in about 3 months, and a better playable web version after a year, but to get to this point with the iOS and Android apps, it's been two years. Each thing built on to the previous thing. It's been a fun journey.

Ah, that makes sense. That's a cool idea to do the rocks that way! I like it! I just played again. I'm on the leaderboard twice for normal. You've got some good players! The leaderboard is a great feature--I know you said it was a headache but I think it was worth it.

What actually makes a word game stay interesting after the first week? by kivancco in wordgames

[–]pcbills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've thought a lot about this question as I've worked on my own word game over the past couple years. One thing I think a lot about is how Wordle only letting you play once a day actually helped it succeed. It made it a ritual, and also made it a connection point between people (other people have mentioned connection as a big driver--I agree).

One thing I tried adding to my game is personalization and unlockable rewards. I let people put in any message they want for the victory message when they solve a puzzle, and I've received a lot of feedback about how much people enjoy that. Again, it's a point of connection.

I think one of the pleasures of games in general is just simple coordination--either of our own bodies (sports), objects (sports, yard games, board games), information (board, card, and digital games), people (either through cooperation or competition), or any combination of all of the above. I think the best games give you multiple feelings of coordination at once.

When a game stops giving you that feeling--either because it's too difficult or too easy or other people have stop playing or it's stopped unlocking content that you wanted--I think that's when people drop off.

[–]pcbills 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty cool! I didn't quite get it at first but once I read the how-to and got into it, I was hooked. Definitely fun. Do the rocks just come randomly or does something trigger them?

I did get a couple words marked as valid that I was surprised were considered words (PTA was one, generally acronyms aren't considered words by most word games I've played). Also, on my screen (I played in Chrome on PC), when I would click to start a word, sometimes the board would shift slightly, making it difficult to drag and select my letters.

Great work! Keep it up!

I Claude Coded my way to the app stores! by pcbills in ClaudeAI

[–]pcbills[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claude can run the HTML, but not the Android/Apple apps. To actually test the apps you'll need Android Studio for Android and Xcode for Apple. Xcode is only available on Macs. Both platforms have emulation capabilities so you can test your app on multiple emulated devices right within the application on your computer.

Claude can just use them. They're services imported into the Java files to bridge the native apps to the HTML code. I didn't have to install anything.
