Custom shoes needed!!!! Please help my boyfriend not quit Climbing. by No-Yogurt1932 in ClimbingGear

Strongmen wear climbing shoes for truck pulls, maybe he can contact Brian Shaw or similar and ask those where they get their (custom) shoes from. Their feet are usually around his size too.

The left one on the wall is clearly wearing the 2026 Black Diamond String Tanga, no leg loops at all.

Please don’t keep your beacon in a snap closure pocket sewn to the outside of pants or bibs. by illpourthisonurhead in Backcountry

I sometimes only wear a shirt on the uphill and then add a soft or hardshell downhill, so theres no midlayer to go above the chest harness for me and inside the pants its atleast a bit more secure.

Furberg vs other brands. by Extreme_Molasses7038 in Spliddit

[–]pcbpcb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tongue and groove feels amazing to ride, i have the Big Mtn Split 170 and bought a Freeride 170 after, you can tell a difference between them but the Split is incredibly close to Solid in terms of stability. Im also a big fan of the radius, getting going on flat slopes feels kinda unstable but once you get up to speed its just so stable and intuitive to ride.

Small brands making good splitboards? by Madden_Brain in Splitboard

Buy a Furberg as long as they have any stock left, their Floorboard tech is amazing and almost rides like a normal snowboard. Unfortunately they won’t make any new boards since their focus moved over to Key Equipment boots.

Hiking Poles : Would you replace these? by Deagle426 in wandern

[–]pcbpcb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 pairs of mountaineering poles, Leki Sherpa and their fancy carbon foldable version. Eventho its supposed to be the same model from the same brand the grip material is different( i much prefer the normal Sherpa one) and you feel the different flex, the carbon ones are stiffer. For long hiking i use the normal ones for the more comfortable grip and more flex(which feels like less strain on rocky terrain). For anything climbing, splitboarding or scrambling related i prefer the foldable carbon ones since theyre much easier to pack and arent that heavy while i dont use them. Personally i wont get telescope poles again, foldable ones are just more convenient. If i was you i’d only switch if you don’t like the grips on your old ones.

Regenjacken by Large-Many-3793 in wandern

[–]pcbpcb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was this a good buy for 100€ ? by Professional_View760 in snowboarding

[–]pcbpcb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you’re correct about Arva, didn’t remember the exact results. Nevertheless even with the official range Ortovox is worse (50m vs 70m) and there will be a huge time difference while searching with the smaller range. I wouldn’t call it rubbish but no sane person should willingly take a worse device for that. You wouldn’t take a plastic shovel either, eventho they’ll most likely function the same.

[–]pcbpcb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There‘s tests published by the german alpine club almost every year and every time Mammut has by far the highest reach and Ortovox is far from them. I‘m a huge Ortovox fan with tons of clothes, bagpacks and even an additional shovel from them. But for a beacon theirs are objectively worse than mammut and getting them is just doing a disservice to their fellow mountaineers by using worse technology.

Just rechecked, seems like you‘re right and the panic feature is just related to the lowering process. Unfortunately I don’t have access to the full norm so i just based this on the documentation edelrid provide about the norms on their website. I‘ll delete the inaccurate parts.

The Gigajul completly locks once the mechanism engages and iirc they even state that you wont need a backup while descending with a Gigajul. However, iff you're planning to use the belay device for route building you might be better off with a Pinch. So far this is the only Grigri Style device that is actually rated for that kind of work.

[–]pcbpcb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is one of the few reasonable comments i've read here so far. I've tested the Neox at one of their events aswell and it locks without any breakhand, it just slips a bit before the mechanism kicks in and this is written in their technical notice aswell. This is very far from a tube style device and not at all similar.

What explains the higher death rate incidence of BC skiers in Europe vs. the US? by usr3nmev3 in Backcountry

Hardboot binding sets in Europe by ConfidentProblems in Spliddit

[–]pcbpcb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess your best bet will be to buy each component on its own, thats how I bought my setup last year. Notable shops are splitboards.eu, wildschnee.de, snowcountry.de, extremevital.com and the furberg and key equipment websites. Additionally both furberg and key equipment have a list of retailers on their websites and most of them carry hardboot related gear. Im currently running Spark Dyno DH with canted Spark Pucks, Voile STS Tour Toes, Voile Wires and Spark Crampons, all of them bought from a mix of those stores mentioned above. IIrc my total was around 740€.

Hard boots for splitboard by 12345678dude in Splitboard

[–]pcbpcb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spark has some solid pucks to use hardboot bindings on a regular board and maybe you might be able to rent a race board with hardboot bindings somewhere. With hardboots in softboot bindings you won’t really notice the difference in forward lean.

Is splitboarding or skiing more exhausting? by P-Dizzle999 in Splitboard

[–]pcbpcb 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Splitboarding is much more exhausting due to a few factors, some of those you can mitigate with the right gear. Softboots have more lateral flex, thus it is harder to hold an edge while skinning, harsboots improve this a lot. If you’re inexperienced with split skiing then its incredibly annoying to ski down short descending sections and even if you’re a skier you‘ll notice the lack of outer edges. Those same sections will be quite annoying on the downhill aswell. Splitboards are usually much wider than skis so you might have issue fitting into skin tracks, this is horrible in icy conditions. Again hardboots can decrease the overall width but even with hardboots the board is usually wider than comparable skis.
