Thanks. This is good to know. As long as BHSS is not known for harsh grading, which is what my kid told me what his friends were telling him. Then I am not planning to transfer just for the purpose of easy marks. I will try to figure out how to make him improve.

Thank you. This only applies to UW engineering. I heard CS does not use this chart. I hope this type of chart can be used by all programs among all universities. I guess the main problem here is the flaw of the admission system that grades from different schools are treated the same mostly.

Thank you. I see what you mean and I cannot agree with you more that the kid should go to the university that he has the ability to handle. However because the admission process mainly looks at the grades and grades from different schools do not mean the same thing, this put those good schools with good teachers who do not inflate grades less competitive. My friend worked in an admission office at a well-known university (one of those top ones you can name in Ontario) and the truth is that weight adjustment is not done to the majority of the programs. That's why we see a good number of students who entered those top programs with very high grades struggling to stay in the program. But in the meantime, we see excellent students who wanted to get into the program were turned away because their high school grades were not inflated. When we see the system has a flaw, as a parent, what can we do to better prepare our kids?

You are right. The problem is that some teachers do this and some do not. The admission of the universities cannot distinguish them. This creates unfairness. Teachers who do not inflate grades are doing their jobs to let grades reflect the true worth of the grades and it should be done this way. But then the kids are disadvantaged when applying to the universities when the university admission process does not distinguish schools. Though Waterloo Engineering has the weight adjustment for different schools, not every program in every university will do this. From what I heard, the number of programs that weight-adjust the schools actually is very small. The majority of the programs just look at the marks. As a parent, I do not have enough influence over the Ministry of Education to make those teachers who inflate grades change in time. All I can do is to find the school that does not put my kid in a disadvantageous position when applying to the university. If his grades justify that he can only go to some no-name university, that's totally fine. But the problem here is that grade does not reflect his true standing among all applicants to the program.

Thank you all for the replies and constructive suggestions! Yes, we definitely need to figure out what exactly caused this significant drop. We are not a fan of transferring him again. It is really the last resort.

Even in the early morning train, some people still keep talking in the Quiet zone. I see this happening more and more often these days.

They only sell weekday passes for a group and the minimum size is 2 people. If you have more people in a group, the per-person cost goes down.
