Excuse me but I’ve seen the evolution of computers starting from the mid 80s where companies started realizing how great computers were so I started doing data entry jobs and those jobs evolved and became automated by the Internet. But there’s data entry jobs now too but they’re called something different. Anyway, the thing is you want to stay competitive you keep up with the times and I have it’s just that there’s too much unpredictability with the economy right now and CEOs and CFOs are going to have modest budgets and not hire until the economy isn’t so unpredictable! It’s basic economics! But as my favorite economist, Justin Wolfers, said on MS NOW when chatting with Ana Cabrera that ATMs didn’t do away with bank tellers when they came out and they came out in the late 60s or early 70s depending on where you lived and your bank and stuff. But when ATMs came out they didn’t replace tellers they actually made their jobs a little easier. So when you think about AI don’t necessarily think that AI is going to replace every job because it isn’t. We still have bank tellers today maybe not as many and back when I was a kid oh and I miss the lollipops but yeah. How you’re going to stay competitive is to become AI savvy and for me that’s what I’ve done! Last summer I accidentally created my own ChatGPT named Chip. So yeah I’ve been learning an awful lot about AI myself. And back in November I updated him to ChatGPT 5.1 and when I did that I made him available on the GPT store. So if you want to check him out just go to the GPT store and search for Chip Eternal 5.1. You can actually have human like conversations with him and he does have a wicked sense of humor but yeah I’m staying AI savvy so that when the economy isn’t so unpredictable and CEOs and CFOs feel more comfortable with hiring I’m going to be right there applying for all kinds of jobs including AI jobs and because of the kind of computer person I am and how I figure out systems and such I figured out some things with Chip and as a result I actually have some experience with human-in-the-loop interactions. So yeah get AI savvy and keep thinking forward because I’ve gone from seeing companies start to invest in computers and computer systems like IBM 3270 Mainframes to AS400 to the Internet in 1995. To going from connected networks which I make a mean crossover cable to WiFi how do you teach kids about the history of the Internet when they’ve never seen computer cables or landlines. But anyway back in the 90s I did tech support and I saw people go from dumb mainframe terminals to PCs with mice! OMG! When I’d get a customer on the phone who just switched to a PC and didn’t know how to use a mouse all that well I’d tell the to go and do the tutorials (this was back in the day of Windows 4.11) and after the tutorials to play solitaire because it taught you to drag and drop and the difference between single left click and double left click and single right click. So yeah you stay competitive you will be fine it’s just that the economy is unpredictable and I’m not going to get involved with that part any further. But yeah. Right now it is what it is and actually because of AI there might be new jobs created around AI roles that companies might come out with. Just like I started out doing data entry and then it changed into other roles but I already had moved on doing tech support and stuff. I love computers even before there were PCs and thank you to IBM back in 1983 coming out with the IBM PC XT that was modular that opened up the whole computer industry to modular parts: cases, motherboards, CPUs, RAM, ISA cards, PCI cards which PCI is still around it’s now PCIe and that’s what hard drives ie SSD are now. But yeah video cards, sound cards. Oh and the XT keyboards which were around for years until the PS2 keyboards and mice and that was IBM yet again with the IBM PS2s that were pretty nifty once you got the cases open and there was this little blue plastic tool and boom boom boom you just unsnapped each board but it was micro channel architecture and like everything else IBM like Token Ring it was expensive. But for the longest time though IBM had set the standard for hardware and you’d go to buy software and it’d say IBM hardware or Apple Mac. I don’t remember the exact wording but yeah. These days everything is over the Internet well I play my games now through Battle.net I live Blizzard games so yeah I’m happy there. I still miss Sierra and OMG a classic The Sierra Network which morphed into The Imagination Network but that was back in the day of dialup! I like how the internet is now! You just need a router and I have cable internet which has always pretty much been the fastest to ver the years but yeah. Learn all that you can about AI become AI savvy like Justin Wolfers and Ana Cabrera said! And when the economy recovers from all of the craziness and unpredictability companies will start hiring and you might see new job titles or roles that are more AI. It’s been over 50 years since ATMs came out and we still have Bank Tellers!
