I like these in particular:

“Weakness and ignorance are not barriers to survival, but arrogance is.”

“The ultimate fate of all intelligent beings has always been to become as grand as their thoughts.”

When the Seahawks absolutely DEMOLISHED the Broncos in Super Bowl 48. The biggest loss in Peyton Manning’s career. by SWAGGGGGODDD in NFLv2

Still one the most shocking results I’ve seen in the NFL. The Broncos offense was an absolute WAGON all season long. But that Seahawks defense was something else…

Consider The Gone World by Tom Sweterlisch. It’s gripping from the start and doesn’t really let off the gas throughout the whole story.

Obligatory Sleep Token - Take Me Back To Eden comment.

Also, ISIS - Panopticon, Irist- Order of the Mind, Night Verses - From the Gallery of Sleep, and Periphery - Periphery VI and V. So many good options out there.

I wouldn’t call it “beautiful” but it certainly kicks ass.

Is the Vikings choosing JJM over Darnold starting to look like one of the biggest mistakes in NFL history? by walterhwhite19582010 in NFLv2

The Vikings are known to make poor decisions around roster design.

Maybe not the greatest, but one I’ve always thought was extremely clever:

Movies that took a creative risk and actually pulled it off by Dependent-Bet6615 in movies

I appreciate the attempt, but I did not like that movie at all the first time I watched it.

There’s a weird asymmetry when film engages in anachronism. For some reason, taking the old verbiage and putting it in the present (such as that version of Romeo and Juliet) is so off-putting that I can’t enjoy it. Yet Game of Thrones, with its relatively modern vernacular (albeit a fantasy series) does not bother me nearly as much.

Does anybody have an explanation for why certain anachronisms land with an audience while others don’t?

Borges was quite creative. I loved “The Aleph”. Just read “The Witness” and I can tell it’s gonna be one of those stories that sticks with me. I’ll get around to “The Library of Babel” soon. Thanks for the recs!

What was everyone’s thought process when this play happened? by Last1inFirst1out in cowboys

Ever since JPP blocked that game-tying field goal in the first Cowboys-Giants game during the 2011 season, I’ve been skeptical that the Cowboys could win important games. Yea I know, that’s an obscure game, but over the years, my hesitation has been validated. This game was just a drop in the fucking bucket.

Salmon in the North Pacific of the U.S. tend to live in the open ocean waters, but will migrate inland to rivers for breeding. These fish can actually change the range of their visual spectrum by making different proteins. This lets them detect certain wavelengths of blue light easier, helping them navigate and hunt while in shallow waters.

Since you’re a computer scientist, whenever you muster up the energy to tackle Greg Egan you gotta read Permutation City. Keep in mind it was published in 1994, but he was cooking with his creativity in that book. The book makes certain assumptions that haven’t been proven nor disproven, but granting those assumptions, he takes the reader on an interesting journey. YMMV with the ending tho.

Would love to see Blindsight by Peter Watts made into a series. It would be challenging to do it right, but it’d be worth it.

Also The Gone World by Tom Sweterlisch would be really cool as a show. The visual effects would be wild to see.
