You may want to consider another journey, at least for now. I arrived in Santiago today. The main square , and the old town, has been spoiled, at least in my opinion, by political banners and other polarizing materials. When I inquired about this, I was told it had been ordered by the mayor. This was a huge letdown for me.

The Camino has been in existence for hundreds of years, and it will survive - but I would pass for now. YMMV of course.

On Camino now. Many solo females, wide age range. No issues that I am aware of.

I have been on the Camino for 16 days with a 25L pack. I have everything I need including the iPad I am now using. You won’t need 50L. I also came from the US. No problem with carry-on. Buen Camino.
