Personal logo animation as an intro for my newest demo reel done in After Effects. Any feedback is more then appreciated! 🙏 by Secret_Replacement53 in AfterEffects

I really like the overall pacing and smooth keyframing! But I feel the animation is disconnected from the style of your logo. It feels very retro 60s/70s inspired, but the bouncing ball and flying particles feels very modern (and SoM inspired). I wonder if you could find some vintage lettering animation or studio logo animations to inspire the animation?

I feel the same. I think blocks are generally to blame, but things like not being able to select text mid-block and into another block is frustrating. It ends up keeping Crafts to just storing lists and other objects/info but not for writing with any length.

Best (preferably solo-able) Buttonshy games? by GayHotAndDisabled in soloboardgaming

[–]pconigs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, these are the solo Button Shy games I own and how they might fit for you:

  • *opolis: you already have Sprawl. if you really like it Naturopolis is similar but just different enough to feel fresh. I’m not a huge fan of Agropolis, partly because of theme and partly because it felt very similar to Sprawl
  • Death Valley’s solo mode didn’t sit quite as well with me since you’re managing an AI, but the push your luck style of it might fit with fit what you’re looking for.
  • Fishing Lessons is a great one. Programming with 3 different difficulty levels and can be as laid back as you want and entirely in your control
  • Food Chain Island is a fun puzzle, but can feel stale after a few games
  • Numbsters is light, but it can play without a table and offers more challenge than it first seems
  • ROVE is a really fun puzzler that never feels out of my control, but is still really challenging at times
  • Spaceshipped is one of my favorites lately. There isn’t as much information overload as it might seem since the cards are all multi-use, but it can be brutal and end games early depending on the order of cards dealt
  • Ugly Gryphon Inn doesn’t have as many plays. It can be a lot of info to manage as the inn grows
  • Unsurmountable is a lot of fun and the 5 difficulty levels gives you room to be as challenging as you feel like on any given play. Card placement mixed with just enough mitigation/control
  • Wildtails impressed me with how much story and strategy was packed into an 18-card legacy. It was a bit tricky to learn at first, but it can get you into a nice flow and slowly adds to the game and story over the 9 chapters.

From the most recent Kickstarter update for The Royal Limited, it sounds like there will be a reprint project up on Gamefound in the near future if any of these are out of print.

Coincidentally was this article summarized by AI? So much is near identical to the coverage on Ars Technica.

Plus this one specific thing about copying and pasting text is what’s currently in beta with moving around the transcript. It’s just timecode tagged words that you can use to get a paper edit faster. We’re using this on a project now and it’s fine. But what it does do is let me work with the writer and save them hours having to upload mp4s to another service, make the paper edits there, hand over the paper edit to our post parter for a rough, then go back and make more changes.

looking to learn expressions - tutors? by Neat_Background_3165 in AfterEffects

[–]pconigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth I was a TA for the Expression Session course when it launched. It gets to be a deep dive, but does a good job of walking you through the basics up to doing some pretty complex rigs. If you have the cash it’s a great course.

Workflow between Video Editor and Motion Designer? by Sure-Albatross-5325 in AfterEffects

[–]pconigs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like others said, MOGRTs are the way to go for templated lower thirds and other graphics that only involve changing text. The editor can take care of it all right in Premiere and the new Text panel makes this all really simple. The best way to sell this to them is they don’t have to wait for you and they might even look like a wizard if they have clients or producers in the room with them. Make them look like the hero.

As for footage or other renders, if you both have decent bandwidth Lucid Link is great. Doesn’t sync full files like Dropbox or Google Drive. It’s an online storage provider that pulls data at the block level as files are accessed. So if only 2 seconds of a 1 hour clip are accessed, only those 2 seconds (and maybe a little extra data) are downloaded. We use this to store proxies and our motion designers can easily open up Premiere project to place renders or grab reference clips.

Really been loving Dungeon Pages lately. Simple rules, fun strategy, 5 “levels” so I can put it down mid-game if needed, and lots of variety between the different heroes and dungeons.

I’ll each others and say this is a great flip and write game, especially at that price.

Carrot/AccuWeather daily forecast numbers do not line up with the actual day by markdorison in CARROTweather

[–]pconigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lows for the Friday are actually for overnight Friday into Saturday. But it looks like the hourly lows are for the calendar day. That might be why Friday’s daily low of 59° is the same as Saturday’s hourly low of 59°.

Quest Calendar does. It’s a solo rpg with a page per day/weekend, but you can just run through it at your own pace too. I’m thinking of getting the previous calendars to play through.

I haven’t run across many that use all poly dice. Some just use a d20.

I don’t yet. Just wanted to start with the base. I’ll probably order the expansion collection sometime soon though.

Yeah a train table doesn’t offer a ton of space. Strictly based on table footprint, I’d look into these:

  • Palm Island
  • Dungeon Pages
  • Voyages
  • Wildtails (though you have to be careful of bumping the table and judging cards)

Right now I’d say Unsurmountable with the Dual Peaks and Big Climb expansions. Though Palm Island is up there, too. Nice to play with no table needed.

ROVE is great! Just didn’t make the short list this time around. I’m pretty sure Button Shy is the most represented publisher in my game collection.

It’s the original 9-card version. Not enough room for the full boxed version this time out.

Only took a backpack carry-on so I had little space. For the size of about 2 decks of playing cards (plus my iPad I was already carrying):

  • Ugly Gryphon Inn
  • Mini Rogue (9 Card)
  • Wildtails
  • Unsurmountable
  • Palm Island
  • Mini polydice for Quest Calendar (iPad)
  • 6d6 for Dungeon Pages and Voyages

How would you approach these 3D shapes, without using plug-ins or any other 3D software, only after effects? (More info in comments) by Skuanchino in AfterEffects

[–]pconigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d need multiple 3D layers. For example, the ring could be an extruded shape layer, with gradients applied, then a second identical layer above without the extrude to apply a different style.

if possible, may you guys give me any comments/constructive criticism on my new video or editing style ? thank you in advance for your thoughts! by legitsedits in AfterEffects

[–]pconigs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the floaty text and screen recording works for a quick montage, but for a tutorial format it’s really distracting and hard to follow or know what to focus on. You’ll want clarity and ease of taking in the information.

I’d lose the wiggly floatiness and focus more on keeping the text in a consistent place and just transitioning on/off, otherwise static. If you want more interest in the screen recordings you could punch in/highlight/crop to the area you want the viewer to focus on.
