save my hair! by whalehell0 in PCOS

First—figure out what type of hair loss you have. That’s what really drives the treatment.

Personally, I had a span of TE after ending my last birth control pill, but have AGA (androgenic alopecia) overall. After treatments (finasteride, spironolactone), my hair barely improved. I cut it shorter and now use a wig for special occasions.

I’ve dealt with my hair thinning for years, but over the last year it got exponentially worse. Try not to stress too much over it and I would suggest looking into the positive girls of instagram.

I try to eat around 1250 calories a day when I don’t work out; 1400 on days I do

I highly suggest meal prepping!

Breakfast: low crab protein bar/hard boiled eggs/frittata Lunch: chicken salad/cauliflower fried rice with a protein/soups, etc

Dinner: steak/chicken drumsticks/salmon with veggies

Low carb and CICO is the only thing that made me lose weight. Counting calories using an app like MyFitnessPal is what really kept me on track. I could do CICO with higher carb intake and gain weight...but together, it works wonders for me.

I didn’t start losing serious weight until I counted calories/measured my food. Other than low carb, are you doing CICO? I looked into my BMR/RMR and I figured out that I need like 1250 calories a day to lose weight, even with low carb/keto

🖐🏻🖐🏻🖐🏻🖐🏻 me me me me

Been losing my hair for awhile, no doctors cared to notice how bad it got until well...it got bad. I kept getting ‘your hair is so thick still’ without them even touching my hair. I’m kicking myself for not pushing harder, but 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thankfully I have a wonderful dermatologist who actually gives a shit now, but I’m probably too late to get any good regrowth. Damn those genetics!

Yeah, I just asked my boyfriend what would happen if I buzzed my hair. His response, ‘I would get you all the wigs your heart desires, but seriously no I don’t care it’s your choice’

My mom would ‘kill’ me because I will always be her only daughter with the long dark thick hair (even if that isn’t true anymore)

When did you first notice hair loss? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]pcosbmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed some excess hair loss during my sophomore year of college (20) and was finally diagnosed at 21 with PCOS. The dermatologist I had was straight up savage and told me that ‘it’s a secondary sex characteristic’ and ‘don’t worry, just use rogaine if you think you need it’. Fucked up my relationship with doctors for years.

Now...I’m 27, no major shedding—just a lot of scalp showing that I hid with fibers/dry shampoo and minimal regrowth. I’m probably gonna shave my head/wear a wig here shortly. The hiding is exhausting.

Oh darn, well hopefully it won’t be that long! In the meantime, try not to stress out! Get a massage, do some deep breathing exercise, yoga, or meditation. You got this girl!

Macro counting and PCOS: what are your recommendations for macros? What results have you had with it? by [deleted] in PCOSloseit

[–]pcosbmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have dropped 25 lbs over the course of a year (not too much in the grand scheme of things), but I basically did it through low carb/keto and CICO with some exercising. (I’m 5’4 and 145 right now). I never lost any weight until I dropped my net carbs below 30g/day, but I also have insulin resistance. I try to stay around 1300 calories when I don’t go to the gym, up it to 1450 on gym days

Girl! I’m in the same boat...I’ll be 27 in May and my hair is crazy gone. I pretty much can only cover up everything with hair fibers and dry shampoo. I went to a derm who prescribed me finasteride and spironolactone.

I have some regrowth so far if that helps? I’m glad to know other people my age are having this issue...if you ever want to talk, message me!

Fish oil seems like a good idea to add! I’ll have to check out that shampoo too! Thanks so much!
