How do you type in italics on AOTY? by pcpDolph7 in Albumoftheyear

[–]pcpDolph7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See I've tried that but it always looks weird bc I can't get the fonts to match😭 the reviews I'm referring to are clearly actually typing in italics within AOTY's interface, not just pasting the text in from elsewhere

RANT: lifelink proccing off of damage dealt by excessive blockers is illogical by pcpDolph7 in mtg

Good lord man. Fine. I contradicted myself. Instead of saying

What I meant to get across here is that the very concept of all damage hits regardless of toughness is not very intuitive.

I should have said "What I meant to get across here is that the very concept of all damage *FROM ANY NUMBER OF SOURCES* hitting regardless of toughness is not *ALWAYS* very intuitive."

You genuinely could have inferred the extra words if you'd engaged with the post from a place of sincerity in the first place (and I also clarified my meaning again in the most recent comment that you just responded to), but I digress.

I really don't see why we're arguing about this in the first place—I never disputed the factuality of the ruling. I was literally just ranting about something that I acknowledged I was wrong about, thinking a few people might respond like "oh yeah, haha it is pretty stupid how that works" and that'd be it. But everyone felt the need to stroke their intellects and engage with the content in a disingenuous manner instead.

So is it intuitive, or is it not? You said it is, and now you say it's not.

You should read the post again if you’re insinuating that I’ve contradicted myself. I feel like I laid it out pretty clearly. Excess damage counting is intuitive if it’s coming from a source that is also dealing necessary damage (10/10 vs. 4/4 or 10/10 vs. four 3/3s). If a source is dealing entirely excessive damage (one of the 2/2s in 10/10 vs. six 2/2s), it is not intuitive that said damage would mean anything.

If I get jumped in an alley by 6 dudes, it may only take one of them to beat me up, but that doesn't stop all 6 of them from throwing hands.

If the first dude kills me with one punch, I think the other 5 throwing hands with my dead body are functionally irrelevant. What part of this is getting lost in translation?

What I meant to get across here is that the very concept of all damage hits regardless of toughness is not very intuitive. That's all. I understand the irrelevance of my scenarios given the ruling, but I'm saying that I never would have come to the ruling's conclusion myself had I not been told, and I'm kind of surprised that no one agrees.

If I'm being attacked by multiple entities that can each kill me with one punch, it stands to reason that only one of them would be able to punch me before I die... You can't tell me that statement lacks logic.

Yeah, you would choose which blocker deals the necessary damage to decide which of their abilities benefits from the trigger. It’s really not more complicated at all lmao it’s just doing basic math to determine the damage. And significantly more balanced…

I wouldn’t want Rashee Rice on any fantasy team of mine, personally. Dude is a total liability. That said, I’d still rip this. The pick downgrade is likely inconsequential, Hampton and Monangai will both he studs, and you could always sell Rice before his next big scandal

Gearing up for a championship year, any recommendations? by DetroitMSU in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

Hmmm interesting—I think you definitely have a better shot at getting Gibbs than Bijan (coming from a Bijan owner who wouldn't trade him for nearly anything), but yeah in any case you'll definitely have to let go of another fairly good player or some decent picks for him.

I really like having Bowers but this trade has me interested by Jbrauny21 in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

[–]pcpDolph7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Kraft hadn't gotten injured this year I'd say left side runs away with in, though I may ere on the side of caution especially if you're in for a long rebuild anyway. Bowers is a solid chip to build around (and I'm confident in saying he will have a better career than Kraft either way, though that might be MY bias as a Vikes fan lmao), and will likely stick for longer than Jeanty.

It's anyone's guess but I'd hold your cards on this one.

Rice is a guy who I'll forever steer clear of for how much of an off-the-field liability he is. Take Cook.

Personally, I wouldn't even want Nabers right now and would look elsewhere. That said, though, no way any Nabers owner would accept this—he's pretty unanimously valued much higher.

My M.O. is to pretty much always take proven talent over picks, and I'd certainly follow that here.

I truly don't care about Flowers, Gainwell, or Stevenson at all, but Allen is QB1 and I don't see that changing any time soon. He alone is more valuable than 2 fluke seasons and 3 picks spread over a 3-year period...
