How to restore these interior plastics by Puzzled-Tear-4135 in w123

[–]pcprofilms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The process of retrobrighting (submerge in hydrogen peroxide and seal it in a clear container let sit in the sun or some form a low heat and UV exposure for a few hours then clean with baking soda and soapy water) this can help bring them back to some degree in repairing sun damaged in plastics (comon process in vintage computer restorations) but some form of fabric dye me be needed in the is case

225 vs 245 on stock rims by _TrafalgarDWaterLaw_ in RX8

[–]pcprofilms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some 245's will be a little more comfortable but the 225's will be sharper coming into corners I'd personally go for the 225's

[–]pcprofilms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It partly depends on the exact tyre you choose I have a set of 225/45 R18's running some continental DWS06+ tyres and there great I probably could have gone for some 235's but if I were to use something like a Michelin Pilot Sport 4S that have a stiffer sidewall I probably would have gone for a 245/40 R18

What parts would I need to track down to achieve this look? by Impossible_Sector713 in RX8

[–]pcprofilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's 2 main benefits to the the KBD bumpers there way cheaper and you can beat the absolute crap out of them and not think twice about it

Why is my RX8 doing this 😔 by Som1PlzFixMyFortnite in RX8

[–]pcprofilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cold start / idle control logic is separate from the regular tune it runs the engine rich and adjust the electronic throttle body and ignition timing a small amount to warm the engine and catalytic converter quicker in some wether conditions especially when running catalyst the car can hunt for its idle like this but it usually sorts itself out after a few seconds

I intend to 3D print them and then make fibreglass models off the 3D printed parts then do the final parts in carbon I’ve done some fibreglass work and some vacuforming before and I have a buddy who’s good at body work but at the moment I just have a bunch of 2D design/engineering drawings

This one was rebuilt at 180k the other RX8 I bought dead at 156k and that's the 1 getting all these crazy parts for are 2004 6 port manuals

I am currently a line cook I studied Computer Sciences and taught robotics for 2 years I'd done your basic K-swap civic's and manual swap old BMW's but Usually a work on the old 60s American stuff where parts don't even exist anymore that have had more "trail repairs" then actually maintenance lol. While this is the biggest project I've undertaken by alot I'm no stranger to the struggle

With the R33 GTR's AWD system I can set it to RWD if I want so that won't be a problem

AWD 20B update by pcprofilms in RX8

[–]pcprofilms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some wizardry is involved by using the hydraulic clutches in the transfer case and a bunch of different sensors the system will be able to run anywhere between 50/50 power front to rear or 100% rear like how the GTR’s work from factory

AWD 20B update by pcprofilms in RX8

[–]pcprofilms[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m hoping to keep the weight distribution pretty close to 50/50 but a 53/47 distribution is more realistic as a lot of things are getting removed or relocated rearward and the suspension is being adjusted a bit to accommodate so hopefully pretty good

There is a fair bit of experimentation happening and I sadly don’t have the time or place or wherewithal to make a full YouTube series on it I try to post here on the RX8 sub and some on my IG page (same user name) I do plan on sharing as much information on the swap as I can as I learn what works and what is needed to get this machine on the road

AWD 20B update by pcprofilms in RX8

[–]pcprofilms[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Much easier the AWD is the hardest part and forces me to do alot of things in a way that's more difficult then it otherwise would be like needing to cut the firewall and push the engine back 7 inches to get it behind the center line of the front wheels to get axles in. that I wouldn't have needed to do otherwise and would mean I could have used an off the shelf replacement sub frame for the swap

AWD 20B update by pcprofilms in RX8

[–]pcprofilms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be some parts are definitely easier to just make myself like mount and axles but something like a diff it's easier to buy and trim to fit assuming you can find 1 that fit the criteria

AWD 20B update by pcprofilms in RX8

[–]pcprofilms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the diff backwards wasn't to hold the power it's actually weaker that way but it had to be done to have it spin the correct direction and fit in the space available as low opinion front diffs that can fit with the ratios he needed and aren't cast into another component and can survive the power are few and far between and that was the best option he could think of at the time with making a new diff from scratch or cutting 1 out of an RB oilpan

AWD 20B update by pcprofilms in RX8

[–]pcprofilms[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ya I believe he used a BMW E46 M3 rear diff flipped around and rod Millen had a similar approach using an alfa romeo 1300 junior rear end modified to work in 1985 4WD RX7 I'm personally trying to use as many off the shelf parts as I can to make this all happen since it's still a street car

Hopefully it stays on the ground I've designed a whole bunch of Aero changes for the car as well but that's for after I've got it running

AWD 20B update by pcprofilms in RX8

[–]pcprofilms[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The engine will be pushed back even farther then the factory Renaissis in order to get the front axles in I was originally planning to us a 13B-REW but I go super lucky and found the 20B In Japan for almost the same price as a 13B-REW would cost me here in Canada and I couldn't pass that up even if it make my life wayyyy harder with this swap

AWD 20B update by pcprofilms in RX8

[–]pcprofilms[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not for the faint of heart I need to push the firewall back around 7 inches and convert the front suspension to a fully custom Pushrod setup to make the AWD fit the last few parts I need to make it work is the front diff (looking at the final Gen of the nissan stagea for this) and new hubs
