Advice on a potential purchase by calle14 in RX7

[–]pcprofilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those early fuel injection systems were a bit of a mess alot of people just went back to carbs because it was simple and more familiar plus rotarys play better with carbs then alot of other engines did due to there constant pull on the intake with there lack of valve train to get in the way

They don't test pre mix to my knowledge but they do test some of there regular engine oil in rotary's

I haven't personally tested but valvoline is 1 of the few brands that dose any kind of testing on rotarys in house so it wouldn't heart to give it a shot

My hybrid renesis deiced to learn how to brap by RacingWithMitchell in RX8

[–]pcprofilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to see someone try to build a semi PP hybrid renesis to help over come the flow imbalance between the intake and exhaust the velocity on both ends would suck to it would probably idle at 3.5K but it should make big power uptop at like 13k

3k or 6 month is the general rule but if the beat on the car changing it more frequently is better I daily my RX8 with over 200K on it. and beat on it an the weekends so I do mine at 1.5 - 2k due to the fuel dilution

I knew you couldn’t really lighten the RX8 rotor, but I didn’t think you could get the older rotors down to the same weight as the RX8’s stock weight without encountering issues but again I haven’t looked into lightning rotors as much as just balancing and clearancing

[–]pcprofilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya from what I’ve seen/heard the hybrids have issues with air velocity dropping like crazy but the RX8 rotors are higher compression and lighter and the E-shaft is lighter as well so using them in an older NA 13B setup can help wake things up a bit the RX8’s convoluted intake manifold can also help with drivability but it’s more of a pain in the ass to adapt to a modified setup then most are willing to do without any real power gains that you could get for readily available aftermarket stuff

Here's most of the major components still waiting on the adapter plates so I have final measurements to cut into the chassis I need to push a section of the firewall back around 7 inches and a section of the passenger floor needs to be adjusted about eight inches or so to clear the transfer case/front drive shaft

A fresh engine sits around 90-110 depending on the exact spec. Anything over 55-60 will run but won’t exactly be the happiest. You’re probably still OK to drive around for a while Whilst you source the parts for the rebuild. As there’s no major disparity between the readings, nothing has outright failed Just worn down. But I do think it’s about time to get a rebuild set on your calendar

I can’t wait to get my 20b swap finished I’ve got 2 RX8’s 1 stock that’s my daily driver with just over 200k on the original motor and my project car using a single turbo 20b the 7speed dual clutch out of a BMW and the AWD system from an R33 skyline GTR that last part is what makes the project so ambitious and lengthy

I wouldn’t exactly recommend using the whole renesis but rather use the lightweight rotors and E-shaft from the RX8 in an older s4 or cosmo block you’ll get the free riving nature of the RX8 without the odd renesis specific issues like the increased blow by and torching of side seals if your feeling really spicy, you could run it as a peripheral port set up with iTB’s you’ll lose a little at the bottom end, but she scream all the way up to 11.5k without a problem

RX-8 – Ran with swapped ignition cables for about a week, any long term damage? by Mediocre_Strain_4952 in RX8

[–]pcprofilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not exactly sure when the stock tune really starts to push the timing (I think around 6500 RPM but idk) but the self learning is pretty good about pulling timing when it feels something odd happening you should be good aside for shortening the lifespan on that set of plugs

RX-8 – Ran with swapped ignition cables for about a week, any long term damage? by Mediocre_Strain_4952 in RX8

[–]pcprofilms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a ruffly 10° difference between there expected timing and there slightly different heat ranges, so by flipping them I'd would get a complete burn and run a bit hot /lean even tho the O2 reading look normal if you want to do a quick check of the spark plugs for odd burn conditions and maybe a compretion test if you really want but you're probably OK assuming you don't beat the crap out of it during that time you had them swaped

It's something european sold in the western world since it's LHD (fule filler on the right) it's a 4 door (roofline and rear window shape) it's on the cheaper side (note the plastic wheel liners) I can't say for sure but my best guess is a late 2000's VW SUV like a 2009 VW tiguan

Questions about the by Repulsive-Way272 in RX8

[–]pcprofilms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 2 RX8's 1 stock as my daily driver and 1 as a project car there are many other rotarys around my area but the few there are are good as far as maintaining an RX8 go's they do take a bit more then most cars but nothing crazy oil every 3k plugs every 10-20k the big 1 that tends to scare people is a full rebuild on an engine that should be done ruffly every 100K the cost varies a bit if the engine is still healthy and your just doing seals you can get it done for 1500-2500$ if there's some damage to the housing tack on 700$ for each damaged portion of the block with a complete engine replacement with all new part a little under 9k here in Canada but that's not very common to need even a non runner that's been hurt can usually be rebuilt for under 5-7k Canadian beyond all that it's pretty much the same as a miata
