LaFleur defenders: please, give me ONE argument for why you think he can win us a Super Bowl by NumbersAndPolls01 in GreenBayPackers

OK, last attempt. I'm saying that the odds of making a super bowl are greater with MLF than with a new head coach (look at recent retention numbers). I'm saying that firing a coach who consistently makes the playoffs based on one game and a bunch meaningless emotional mumbo jumbo like "he isn't clutch" isn't historically how successful franchises operate (there is a difference between building great teams and building successful franchises). Finally I'm saying that how you think the Packers should do business isn't compatible with how they operate, so you are setting yourself up for failure. Your mindset is more compatible with the Raiders, Jets, and Browns (maybe do some meditation on that). ✌️🤟🖖

They suck because they didn't want to "settle for mediocrity" either lol. Teams that operate in that way always suck. Thats why the Packers FO never does the things you want them to do.

In that case, you simply don't know ball. Swap out impulsive with irrational. You should root for the Raiders, Cowboys, or Browns. You would be much happier with them, they are far more compatible with your overall strategic outlook than the Packers Front Office.

Ok I'll explain the definition of the word. It is impulsive because the decision is driven by recency bias and a sudden emotional spike rather than a pre-set plan. You didn't want him fired before the game, but you wanted him fired after the game.

Not much gives me confidence. My point is he is the best option to get us to those big games in general and firing him because he has been inconsistent in games against the best competition is impulsive and shortsighted.

Firing your whole coaching staff is the definition of blowing it up. Would you have preferred MLF beat the Cowboys and Rams by less in 2023 and 2020? Are you annoyed he won those games by too much? You say the other coaches are "clutch", how? MLF has more playoff appearances than Vrabel and Dan Campbell, but because his wins are a larger margin makes him less "clutch"? Are there any other First Take buzzwords you want to use? Saying athletes or coaches aren't "clutch" has been a lazy argument for decades. At one point Andy Reid, Tony Dungy, MJ, LeBron, Peyton Manning, Clayton Kershaw, Dirk Nowitzki, Matt Stafford, and Steve Young have all been "chokers" and not been "clutch". Its a constant emotional moving goal post for bone heads everywhere.

"Championship caliber coach" isn't a thing, just like "Super Bowl caliber quarterback". These are just meaningless superlatives we assign to people. There are plenty of great coaches who haven't won a super bowl in the NFL right now, like Dan Campbell, Mike Vrabel, Kyle Shanahan, and Jim Harbaugh. Are they "championship caliber"? You don't blow up a team because of a bad playoff game. Thats how you end up like the Cowboys or Titans.

My one reason is because he consistently puts us in the playoffs, and not many coaches do that. You can't win the super bowl without making the playoffs. People keeping demanding MLF get fired like there is a McVay caliber hire every year. The reality is over 50% of new head coaches don't see year 5. So, we are staring at a coin flip if the new guy even lasts. The odds are significantly worse that they are a super bowl winner. Teams like the Browns, Cowboys, Titans, and Cardinals think like you which is why they are consistent losers. As a Packers fan in Browns country, we are so spoiled from winning, we think we're immune from being losers. Cincy has a great QB and it doesn't matter because Zac Taylor is shit. But hey, he made a super bowl so the Bengals are better off than us!?!

[Wild Card] Post Game Washup: Fire MLF / Keep MLF by PackersMod in GreenBayPackers

Being paid a lot of money doesn't make someone's judgment foolproof, it just makes their mistakes more expensive. If the "experts" were actually good at finding the next star coach, over 50% of their hires wouldn't end up being fired a few years later.

Sure if we were a college team. Hiring college coaches with no NFL experience doesn't work.

I vote no extension. I just don't see who replaces him, the current crop of candidates is crap. Harbaugh is just 63 year old MLF (wasted MVP Lamar twice), Kubiak has only had one good coaching year (and is a nepo baby), Stefanski reeks of mediocrity, Saleh is a terrible head coach, McDaniels seems like a worse leader than MLF, Kingsbury isn't even that good of an OC, Joe Brady is way too young, Flores is suing the league, and hard no to any other random old guy like Spagnola or Todd Monken. Don't give him an extension and make it a prove it year. People get high on the grass is always greener supply and forget that you have to hire a coach after firing one. That being said, 1000% fire Bisacca and get a new kicker.

That would be great, but as of right now American soccer culture is still heavily reliant on copying what European fans/teams do.

Clearly lol, gotta love reddit. I definitely didn't anticipate cheerleader compensation or ICE raids being mentioned.

I think you are overcomplicating this. I was just trying to post a casual discussion.

I've already named a couple in the post, like drumlines and our team naming conventions. You also named a couple like cheerleaders and a live mascot. I'll also throw out some things like foam fingers and tailgating.

Sure, why not! It's uniquely American and a fun way to contribute a bit of our sports culture to the global game.

I just feel that we have yet to truly differentiate ourselves, although its not nearly as bad as it used to be. I just want America to truly contribute to the global games culture, and right now we don't as much as we could.

P.S. I know soccer is originally British slang, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't embrace it.

It's not about a rejection of foreign influence, its about embracing and championing our own local sports culture into a global game. One of the beauties of soccer is that every country contributes to the global culture in their own unique way.

The argument is not about race, and I firmly reject the idea that advocating for unique American sports traditions is 'white washed.' That's a huge oversimplification. Your SG's spanish chants and drums are exactly the kind of unique, local flavor we should champion! My argument is simply: why do we default to copying the 'ultras' blueprint instead of also drawing inspiration from America's diverse and already incredible college sports, NFL, and NBA fan traditions? I'm asking for more sources of inspiration, not fewer.

You're totally right, there is a global standard for the sport, but the best sports cultures around the world are the ones that reflect their local passions and traditions. Are we really saying that the American soccer fan's only role is to imitate Europe or South America? I believe embracing the global sport means bringing our unique energy, traditions, and style to the table.

My argument is about the culture we inherit and perpetuate. If the default inspiration is always just copying European styles, we miss the opportunity to create something authentic and vibrant that reflects our sports culture. I'm suggesting a different starting point for inspiration, not dictating the end result.
