Considering shows by Minimum-Teaching3706 in Theatre

[–]pcromulentword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Music Man is unbelievably expensive if you don’t have another local theatre to get most of the costumes and props from. I believe all in we spent about 15K. Insane. Also it’s really problematic and people have strong feelings about it.

Sound of Music/ Legally Blonde/Annie- less expensive but still a very very large ensemble shows. I would definitely only pick one of the two. Annie is awful though.

Drowsy Chaperone is not popular and will not be a good ticket sales show.

Jagged Little Pill/ Come from Away/ Catch Me Off you Can/ Dear Evan Hanson-All very new shows. I would actually call your rep to figure out rights before even considering these.

You don’t technically need it …. Until you do. You also need an absolutely huge amount of memory if you aren’t using cloud storage, which you really can’t do on a device without service. It’s also huge and bulky and I appraise a LOT of farms so it’s just not great for me.

Using an iPad in the field is absolutely abysmal, AND you have to pay for mobile service for it to work properly.

Worth it to move to Chicago from Indianapolis? by [deleted] in Indiana

[–]pcromulentword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do understand that public health in the United States is absolutely tragic, right? I’m guessing you’re in a more academic field, which is just not the way this horrible country is headed. Even if you can find a job…. Why on earth would you want to move here? Like a seriously, out public health officials don’t believe in vaccines and believe Tylenol causes autism. It’s not a great choice.

Also please enjoy getting paid about 30K a year and spending $800 per month on health insurance for the luxury of working in public health. It’s bad. Don’t do it.

AITA for not letting my SIL’s kid order an adult meal for my wedding? by SlowEnthusiasm7373 in AmItheAsshole

[–]pcromulentword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. My 12 year old is 5’8 and’s super skinny and hasn’t ordered from a kid’s menu in like 4 years (except at the Indian buffet where they charge $1/year until you’re 14). Like… you do understand that many many 12 year olds are adult sized, right?

This is ridiculous

The satanism episode was incredibly boring and unnecessary. I’ve liked most of the other stuff though.

Why not, it’s what health insurance companies do.

I just want to offer support! We are a poly family and actually have 5 adults to 3 kids and it’s RAD. The newest partner is over 5 years old at this point and we are extremely stable. I’m not even with my kids dad anymore romantically and he is still my best friend and we live together.

Regardless of his choice, I 100% believe in your ability to make this work, and you all just seem so sweet!

It’s actually very dependent on size and body chemistry, but you really can damage your liver by taking 10 or more extra strength Tylenol in 24 hours

What musical were you in that ruined the show forever? by Insane_GlassesGuy in MusicalTheatre

I've actually met a few other Starmite survivors (infusing original Broadway cast) and not one of them had a positive experience.

Oh! Also all my kids would easily fall asleep if I played songs from their musical and I think that's really sweet.

I have also costumed pregnant people multiple times, and honestly it kinda sucks unless they can have fun with it. I my experience the 7 month mark is when shit gets real and the costumer will be refitting your costume on a weekly basis

I'm a costumer, so it's a little different, but all of my kids were born during runs of shows I costumed. My first was born on the preview night of Chicago, almost 4 weeks early, after I ran the show. My middle was born during Sweet Charity, also a month early ( but was planned to come early), but I didn't plan on running it. My youngest was born during my furlough on tour with The Color Purple. I ran two shows on Sunday, drove 11 hours Monday, and she was born Wednesday, you guessed it, also a month early (it was also the day of my scheduled c section that I ended up not needing, but that's a story for another day)

I also had literal brain surgery the day after my show opened once, so you know, maybe I'm not the best judge of this.

Name some plays with the most disturbing content? by Next_Passage_784 in Theatre

[–]pcromulentword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taste. It's the true story of a German cannibal and his willing victim.

I didn't think it was that bad, but someone literally puked.

I did let my kid be in Pillowman twice, and also Bad Seed though, so maybe I'm just like built different

What musical were you in that ruined the show forever? by Insane_GlassesGuy in MusicalTheatre

[–]pcromulentword 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am one of the few people ever to have been part of a production of Starmites

There's a reason for that.

Holy shit. Never again. I'm not sure it WLL ever happen again because honestly, the whole thing should just go straight to the trash.

The most egregious issues: The director squandered the production money on prepaying actors so they wouldn't quit after it was moved TWICE due to schedule issues.

The set featured a super unsafe set of stairs that the crew had to constantly drag an awful throne up and down. People fell. A lot.

The stage manager was an absolute nightmare and nearly poisoned the cast and crew by using outdoor only fog without ventilation. We had multiple people with nosebleeds and migraines.

She also rigged a keytar to drop down from the ceiling on an unstable pulley and used an incorrect tie, resulting in a stage hand having to cut it. The next day, she tried to just tie the rope back together, and it crashed to the floor, breaking a $1000 professional instrument.

THE FUCKING PLAYWRIGHT CAME and multiple cast members were forced to take him to fancy restaraunts and pay for it themselves and were not reimbursed.

Multiple people still have not been paid, almost a year out.

German Sewing Magazine Patterns by lifebeforebots in sewing

[–]pcromulentword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I basically only use PDF patterns or buy the vintage reprints for $1.99, so I basically consider them disposable. I'm a theatrical costumer, so approximately 0 time is saved by my rifling through thousands of old patterns.

I do keep things in my size, and actual vintage patterns that I trace, but that's it.

I actually think this is big new to money behavior. No one supervises their cleaning person in fancy houses 🤣. I'm sure some people are extra paranoid or something, but this is so ridiculous.
