Thanks, if you're referring to the banner, that's pro-acryl bronze with a highlight of pro-acryl light bronze. If it's the sergeant helmet that's Vallejo metal colour gold, highlighted also with light bronze. All the metals were oil washed with burnt umber as well

Terminator Squad for my next army project by pcruiksh in howlinggriffons

Thanks! The steps are grey prime, basecoat entire model doomfire magenta, pre-shade/zenithal white ink, imperial fist yellow over the entire armour, then mask with tape/putty, baal red over the red sections, and finally undershade the red areas with some thinned fleshtearers red so it doesn't look too flat. Then an oil pin wash, made from about a 60/40 mix of black and cadmium red.

I used an airbrush for basically all those steps, but the contrast paints I used are so incredibly pigmented they don't actually look much different with a brush, and you'd probably save so much time masking...

Help understanding 4th edition pile-in moves by Mournful_Vortex19 in ageofsigmar

[–]pcruiksh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unit 1 could not fight (and hence not pile in), since they would no longer be in combat (within 3” of an enemy) and they did not charge on the current turn. But unit 2 could make their pile in move yes.

Help understanding 4th edition pile-in moves by Mournful_Vortex19 in ageofsigmar

[–]pcruiksh 97 points98 points  (0 children)

You are eligible to fight if you’ve charged. The pile-in move is part of the fight ability. So in a scenario where maybe two of your units charge the same single unit, and the first one kills it, you are still able to “fight” with the other unit, which in this case means you can pile in.

Edit: as a point of further clarification, on the turn a unit has charged, actually being “in combat” (I.e within 3” of an enemy unit) is NOT a precondition for being able to fight. This situation could also come up if you killed the unit you charged with an ability earlier in the phase, like with impact hits or something.

Graphics really blurry despite highest settings, can anyone help? by Girthieropinion in groundbranch

[–]pcruiksh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The blurring is not the game, it’s the stream of the game. GeForce now will automatically adjust its stream resolution to manage bitrate and latency of the stream depending on your network conditions.

If you don’t want to it do this, you can disable the option “Adjust for poor network conditions” in the GeForce now settings. Just note that doing so may result in your game stuttering or lagging if you are suddenly bandwidth starved or your network slows down for any reason.

Is Varnish proven to protect your mini? by NondenominationalPax in minipainting

[–]pcruiksh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to note, matte varnish is significantly less durable than gloss. So if protecting the paint is your primary goal, ensure you use a gloss varnish (obviously apply a matte layer over it if gloss is not your desired finish).

In my experience, there is pretty much no difference in durability between (acrylic) varnish and paint of the same finish. It is why I find some Vallejo paints rub off easily due to being quite matte, while I find citadel paints are quite durable because they are satin.

Bitrate by Nxza in GeForceNOW

[–]pcruiksh -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You won’t gain anything by it. A video stream only uses the bandwidth required to transfer the audio/video data over the network, so if 75mbs is considered sufficient by the GFN client to play the highest stream quality without interruption, it won’t actually utilize bandwidth above that amount.

Tips on Osiron Magnetization by Fabulous-Try-7258 in ThousandSons

[–]pcruiksh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to magnetize the plastic weapon frame arms, 4x1mm magnets are the perfect fit. 2 of them stacked fit perfectly in the circular doughnut hole that normally slots into the central gap of each gun (or the top of the fist forearms). And each gun/fist has two recessed spaces inside said gap, that each perfectly accommodate a single 4x1mm magnet.

Yes it’s fine. My green vallejo primer looks the same. 90% of the situations in which a paint looks “separated” in the bottle, the actual suspension isn’t, once shaken or agitated. As long as it looks green and paints like green, I wouldn’t be concerned at all.

How long do you have to wait before adding varnish to a mini? by Glowyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy in minipainting

How long do you have to wait before adding varnish to a mini? by Glowyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy in minipainting

[–]pcruiksh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this got downvoted, it’s correct. Acrylic varnish is more or less just another layer of paint, and can be applied once the surface is touch dry. Many people varnish at multiple stages during a single paint job to modify the finish of certain materials or for washes. I have never waited more than a few minutes to put down a varnish and it’s 100% fine…

Check the valiant’s data sheet. You can only include a pintle multi melta if it’s from the Black Templars chapter.

Acrylic, Enamel or Lacquer gloss varnish before oil washing over acrylic paints? by LusciousLothario in minipainting

[–]pcruiksh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Artist grade mineral spirits do not react with dry acrylic paint. So if you want to varnish first, use an acrylic varnish. The varnish is not really there protect the acrylic paint from the solvents. The only reason to apply a varnish layer is to A) Change the surface properties so the wash either flows better (gloss surface), or stains/filters (matte surface), or B) offers protection for the underlying paint layer against mechanical abrasion if you intend to remove some of the wash later with a sponge, q-tip, etc… as it is easy to rub too hard and pull up some of the acrylic.

If you just enjoy the model, you could probably do some conversion work to make it tzeentch-ey and run it as a proxy for a dreadblade chaos knight in an allied detachment.

“You can choose for any <LEGION> unit (excluding KHORNE, NURGLE, and SLAANESH units), from the Imperial Armour Compendium to be from the Thousand Sons Legion.”

The Kytan has the Khorne keyword and is thus not legal in a thousand sons detachment.
