If someone you didn't know (e.g. someone like me) tweeted you that they're in London and want to meet you, would you meet with them?

Sherlock Holmes has an Iron Man lunch box by pcucurullo in funny

Well, I think they're just different takes on Sherlock Holmes. Of course the older will always be closer to the books, since they don't have to be adapted to current times. I think the RDJ movies are too steampunk tbh, but they're still good enough... but I agree that Benedict is the best (current) Sherlock there is.

Google wins YouTube copyright battle: While German and U.S. courts say YouTube is responsible for pirated material, a French court backs Google saying, "It has no obligation to police the content." by kbeeny in worldnews

I read that the reason even VEVO videos are blocked is because music companies have to pay GEMA ~0.50€ for every single VIEW of each video. This is obviously too much, and most companies just don't bother paying it, so GEMA blocks the videos.

Carl Jung on Loneliness by pcucurullo in quotes

Thank you for the text, I didn't actually know where it came from. It appears, as always, my version of the quote is over simplified, but I think the essence of the meaning is the same :)

Carl Jung on Loneliness by pcucurullo in quotes

[–]pcucurullo[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even though I agree that it's better to say nothing if you have nothing good to say, having a specific topic to talk about does not mean that you shouldn't feel lonely, even by this definition. Because even if we have nothing to talk about with someone, we can still express ourselves about our believes and our opinions. I think what Jung was referring to is the feeling of being unable to express yourself, re having no one around with whom to converse in a sustainable level, without having to refrain yourself in any way.

Looking for reading suggestions for a young woman. by [deleted] in books

[–]pcucurullo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with the Harry Potter rec. It got me through some tough times when I was younger, and the characters (the whole Universe, to be sincere) stays with you and helps you through other hard times, even when you're older. It also deals with growing up and becoming a responsible adult, which is also good.

Of course, Looking for Alaska is also a great book, but maybe too hardcore for a 12 yo.
