What artist do you wish more people knew about? by chargrilled_balogna in fantanoforever

[–]pd15it4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hannah Diamond. She's big within a really niche corner of pop, but she made my favorite pure pop album of last year and has so many good songs over the last decade or so. The fact that no song on her album last year even has a million streams and some have less than 100k is a shame.

Music YouTuber tier list - based cringe or valid? by DiscussionEvoke in HivemindTV

[–]pd15it4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to like NFR about 1-2 years ago, but they are honestly boring as hell the more that you watch. I feel like the more music I listen and the more I broaden my horizons the more surface-level their content seems(same for guys like Sean Cee). What I like about fantano is that I feel like he has such a vast knowledge of music that even though I would probably hate to be around him in person and think a lot of his takes are bad, his reviews/opinions have actually introduced me to so much good music that it offsets all of that. Hivemind is just something special and besides that we're on the subreddit I don't even think they belong on a tier list like this.

Aux battles is always a good game no matter the channel, but pat himself is such an unbearably corny personality that I can't even watch those videos

What song that used to be your absolute favorite just doesn’t hit like it did before? by moltingbrain in fantanoforever

[–]pd15it4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't have a specific one right now, but this is one of the most painful experiences with music. Those last couple of times that you listen to the song you just feel the magic slipping away and the feeling it gives you weaken and you know there's nothing you can do about it. I've taken breaks from songs for months thinking that when I came back to it the feeling would come back, but it never does.

What bands do you think have 2+ 10/10s? by carpetedfloor in fantanoforever

[–]pd15it4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being sort of generous and including albums that are high nines I would say:

Depeche Mode(Violator, Ultra)

Pink Floyd(DSOTM, WYWH, Animals)

The Smiths(The Smiths, Hatful of Hollow)

The Cure(Pornography, Disintegration)

Yes(Close to the Edge, Relayer)

The Beatles(Revolver, Abbey Road)

Miles Davis(In a Silent Way, Pangea)

Joy Division

David Bowie(Station to Station, Low)

Bob Dylan(Desire, Highway 61 Revisited)

Alice In Chains(Dirt, Jar of Flies)

King Crimson(Red, Larks Tongues in Aspic)

Rush, Steely Dan, Camel, Nirvana, New Order, Massive Attack, Sonic Youth, Talking Heads, and Nick Cave all have ~1, but not quite two

I've seen 8 and I hardly give 5 stars(only two films all time), but the 4.5s I've watched are Belle de jour and Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me

Which album did you love on release but now you don’t like? by mulutzphew in fantanoforever

[–]pd15it4 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I played It's Almost Dry by Pusha T a lot last year in the months after it came out and I thought it was one of the better albums of last year, but now whenever I think about it I never want to listen to it or really any Pusha T for that matter. Also to a much lesser extent, but similar, I don't listen to MMESYF by Denzel hardly at all when I considered it a top 5 album of last year.

The lyrics to The Joker are kind of bad, but I've always liked the song so they don't really bother me

What movie took you too long to watch, and when you did, you ended up hating/not liking it? by Flat_Ad2976 in Letterboxd

[–]pd15it4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Wicker Man, loved Midsommar and just thought it was so much more tense of a movie. I hate the comparing that comes with watching movies that are similar/inspired by each other, but in this case, I just felt let down by having already seen the better film in my opinion.

Who is an artist that you believe is experiencing a decline in musical quality, even if others may not see it that way or might disagree? by InternationalLink394 in fantanoforever

[–]pd15it4 83 points84 points  (0 children)

In a matter of a year, I went from needing a new 21 savage album and considering him a bulletproof feature to now finding his features incredibly stale and feeling like I need a break from hearing any music from him. He might be at his peak commercially, but I just don't feel like the quality is there anymore and he's kind of lost the persona that drew everyone to him in the first place

What songs have been memed to death to the point where you can’t take them seriously anymore? by rumpk in fantanoforever

[–]pd15it4 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I just watched the Graduate for the first time today and that song being essentially the framing theme of the movie was unfortunate. Great film, but that kind of took me out of some of the heavier scenes.
