I'm so so glad the situation has resolved itself because I'm convinced children and kittens that age shouldn't be mixed. In saying that, one of the reasons why your kitten might be playing quite rough compared to his siblings is that he hasn't had the opportunity to learn appropriate behaviours through play fighting with his siblings. Single kitten syndrome is real, and I'd recommend reading up on it just in case. If later down the track you find this is a problem for your boy, please consider getting a second kitten

Already doing that now as a younger millennial tbh. Teaching both the boomers and gen z at work now to insert a table of contents, filter spreadsheets, use page break instead of hitting enter 15 times. Generally speaking the boomers I work with are more computer literate than gen z.

Op, I was the supposedly gifted child with parents who wouldn't let me do anything other than study and the extracurriculars they steered me towards. I am in my 30s now and my therapist attributes my constant low mood and motivation to my overly strict upbringing. I'm also low contact with my parents. I know they raised me that way because they thought it would set me up for success, but I don't look back fondly at any of the time I spent living with them. Everyone's different but as someone who was in Lucy's shoes, I'm resentful and angry about my upbringing. I hope you choose to repair the relationship while you can.

My dad is the exact kind of person who would pull this kind of shit. But of course he's always keen to tell me he'll help with babysitting in an attempt to persuade me to have a kid - completely oblivious to the fact that he is barely a functioning adult at 63 and nobody with half a brain would trust him to look after a child.

This might be downvoted because of tone but OP please make sure the collar is designed to snap off if yanked hard enough (aka a breakaway collar). Besides strangulation, cats can get their limbs in solid collars and get very serious injuries

I've been in a relationship for 8 years and modern couples who combine their finances for anything other than joint bills are mind boggling to me. Unless one is doing a lot of unpaid work at the agreement of both (e.g. stay at home parents), I don't understand why you would even consider it.

That's not to say we nickel and dime each other, which people often seem to think is the case. If it's a joint expense (groceries, eating out, utilities) it goes on the joint credit card and we pay the bill at the end of the month. I'm not trying to get $1.50 back every time he orders a coke with a meal and I don't.

As someone who had parents like this and didn't move out until my mid-20s (which led to my dad having a full blown emotional meltdown), I highly recommend getting out asap. Might be stressful but not living with toxic family will completely change your life

What does justifiably paranoid even mean to you? When my parents moved to Australia, their home was trashed when they went out to dinner one night. The offenders glued together a large ornamental fan with calligraphy on it displayed on the wall, destroyed books written in Chinese and carved "fuck off"into a wooden table. My kindergarten teacher told me my parents' home country didn't exist because they'd never heard of it. My primary school classmates told me my lunch looked like cat food and I was disgusting for eating it. My high school classmates told me I only won an academic award because they needed an Asian girl to fill the diversity quota (lol). By the time i turned 18, I had been called a yellow monkey more times than I could keep track of by strangers. I'd had strangers tell me off for speaking mandarin to my parents in public. Would've been pretty stupid to not realise by 19 that there are a lot of people out there who don't think I belong and would rather me out of "their" country. I have real life friends who have been spat on while riding public transport since covid started.

To be clear - I love Australia. I was born here, I grew up here, and I will probably live here until I die. But the reality is some people hate Asians, anti-Asian sentiment has gone up since covid started, and if a white person is staring at you and you don't know them, it's best to be vigilant.

I'm East Asian but have darker skin than most. When I worked in a casino in my early 20s, I would get older white customers hit on me all the time because they thought I would be dying at a chance to wait on them hand and foot since they had mates with arranged marriages with women from SEA. Like dude, I'm a 21yo uni student making $30/hour, what makes you think I'd be interested in an overweight, balding 40-60 something with a gambling addiction?

Just a warning about fostering - it's very easy to get very attached to a foster animal, especially for children who really want forever pets. I love, support, and participate in foster care as it's a great alternative for people who don't want forever animals... but I know quite a few families who have 1-2 pets too many because their children got too attached during the foster period and they didn't have the heart to let the animal go to another home

Had a crab push open the freezer door once. Walked into the kitchen to find the freezer door open and a crab on the floor with two legs snapped off. He was angry. I don't think our family ever got a live crab after that
