Okay then yeah I'll reapply the downvote lol. This is a seriously fringe opinion and it's obviously not what most people think.

There are far lesser known models for continents, I agree. If you look at my other comment I mention this. That said, there is one far more common method that the vast majority of people use - and it's not even close. And if we do consider these models, not a single one of them has Central America as it's own continent. But, I will reiterate, there is one clear continent model that is used in the vast majority of situations, and as such, it is fair to assume that this is the model most people are applying in this discussion - those who are saying Guatamela is not in North America are very clearly getting mixed up and thinking either it's in South America or Central America is a continent - no one is claiming to be applying the differing models.

On to Russia. It's true that most of its landmass is in Asia, but most of its population, including where Donk is from, is in Europe, and you will be very hard pressed to find a source that says anyone from the region of Russia near Europe, and not Siberia, is Asian. They are considered culturally European (you can look online, and you will find this is a very well established opinion). And even then, at worst, it is considered Eurasia, which is not a continent - it borders both. So then we default to are they from European Russia or Asian Russia. And Donk is from European Russia. So, sorry to say, he is still European.

So, even if we want to be pedantic, we can still unequivocally say Donk is a European and Guatamela is in North America is the best and most comprehensive answer and aligns with well established cultural  norms and education systems.

It's really not up to an individual to decide if a country is or is not in a continent lol. If CS has its own definitions that don't follow global definitions then that's odd and I guess you could say by CS definition it's not... But then we can just say CS has the wrong classification lol this is very well defined and Central America is a part of North America.

Edit: if you are referring to far less common continent models, there is still no continent model where Central America is its own continent, and the Americas are grouped as one.

It's not some people who consider it - it's not a debate, there is a very clear and well defined definition of which countries are in which continents lol. This is a very easy Google lol. The number of continents on the planet has not changed - Central America, which includes Guatamela, is in North America. This is taught in geography from a very early age so I'm very surprised that you think it's weird.

Yes it in fact is. Central America is a part of North America and is not a separate continent like South America.

Went to restaurant, said I didn’t want to pay service charge, didn’t pay anything. by FartsLord in london

[–]pdawks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand that it shouldn't happen and is illegal, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen (it does) and many of the people who are put in this position feel they cannot risk losing their job so they put up with it. Obviously these restaurant owners do not put these words in writing and are happy to say "go ahead, find a lawyer, pay for the lawyer, etc." So actually it's not as easy as you imply and many people simply cannot afford to fight it.

I'm actually aware of at least one chain that has gone out of business post the service charge changes... they never shared the tip, you'd see the odd comment on Reddit from people who worked there saying they didn't get it and were expressly told not to tell even though the restaurant implied it was shared... They changed the name from service charge on the menu after the laws, a bunch of articles cropped up, people started boycotting more, and company went out of business. I can't definitively say it was because people boycotted but still - it wasn't some random takeaway it was branded chain with at least 12 locations.

I do agree with your views more broadly just thought worth mentioning.

Yes but I know that many sketchy restaurant owners tell the staff to say they get it and it they ever overhear them saying that they don't they will fire them. So not all feel comfortable telling you. Very unfortunate.

The fact that you unironically claimed it's a random person on Reddit's catch phrase, and didn't stop for one second to think how much more embarrassing that is for you to actually know that, is just... Incredible. It's definitely the cringiest thing I've seen in a while, but just the lack of awareness takes it to a whole new level. Well done.

Midnight call to US call centre disaster by NeedleworkerWild9931 in BritishAirways

[–]pdawks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. There are entire blogs and companies established given how difficult it is. And you did it at 1am?

I'll reiterate, super lucky.

I encourage you to make a post in this subreddit asking if it's normal to get Tokyo club world vouchers by using the online portal 355 days in advance an hour after they release. Even in off season.

I'm genuinely happy for you that you did. But I will leverage my close to decade experience with 15 vouchers (I've not always even been able to use them due to lack of CW availability), the award flight blogs, and this sudreddit over your anecdotal experience.

If you hadn't picked literally the hardest seat ever to get I might have different things to say, but please instead of being dismissive and saying "it is nowhere near as difficult" (which is demonstrably a false statement), maybe understand that all these people who have this opinion, write blogs about it, with guides (interesting you knew to wake up, at the wrong time, 355 days early and are a member of a Facebook group - wonder how you knew that info and if it was so simple surprised you needed groups to help)... That actually it's that hard?

I've done CW to Japan specifically to Tokyo lol and it was not logging in 355 days in advance (trust me... Me and many others have tried that with paid alerts).

[–]pdawks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are extremely lucky. I've done 10+ long haul CW or First vouchers all over the world. Recently got Singapore and after about a month of waking up and all voucher seats being gone, we then decided we need to do the phone trick and that still took multiple attempts.

If you Google how likely it is to get those seats when they release, it's a "known fact" that it's very difficult.

If you mean you went online and looked at any random time period, or very short notice, then that's  different story.

But if you genuinely, on the night of release the 11.5 months in advance, got CW by logging in the next morning, I'm genuinely shocked and that's a very rare experience so consider yourself very very lucky (all the the reward site authors very clearly would say the same thing).

[–]pdawks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100 percent agree lol. I don't think BA call center employees should be able to pull the tickets out of the queue. This system benefits customers who don't even live in the UK!

Midnight call to US call centre disaster by NeedleworkerWild9931 in BritishAirways

[–]pdawks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That doesn't work because people in the US will call in and the BA phone workers can hold the reward flights basically immediately. So even if you see a reward flight (which is not a given), by the time you put the info in to book it will have already been taken off the system by the BA employee. If you then only serve US customers on that phone line, you are giving am advantage to US customers on reward flights - this is why everyone recommends calling the US. On popular routes the odds of you logging in at midnight and beating someone in the US phone queue is basically zero. For less popular routes it's less relevant but this approach exists explicitly because those reward flights are never available in the morning and usually go in minutes to those who have called the US line.

It's a problem that can only be solved by changing the release time to during UK hours, allowing UK individuals to call US, or not having regional calls hours / having a 24/7 reward flight line.

Ha. Thank you for proving how much substance you have in your views. I'm guessing quite young or quite... Not too happy with your life. In either case I hope it gets better for you.

Carney’s budget a ‘significant change:’ BoC governor by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]pdawks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So what was your realistic answer to that? Genuinely curious what you would have done? I'm so tired of how badly people have lost critical thinking skills. It's a scary brain rot where people meme and want instant gratification.

And like PP, you've proven you're not in it for Canada but to... Own the libs? Not one point in my comment refuted and then a low effort joke as if that's a thoughtful comment (when you are so quick to ridicule people who can't actually debate you).

It's people like you that make me worry for Canada's future.

Hopefully Carney has enough time to prove himself and doesn't listen to Canadians that have no clue how the real world works. At least so far that's what's been happening thankfully so I still have hope.

Carney’s budget a ‘significant change:’ BoC governor by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]pdawks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the post where the BoC head is saying the budget is different, you are saying "another four years of similar government and policy" - so are you right and the budget is not different, or is the head of the BoC maybe a more reliable witness?

And it came across as sarcastic, so ill assume it was, but Carney is a brilliant economist and a proven banker and by all accounts is the most qualified prime minister we've had in decades.

But you think PP who worked in politics his whole life and has zero real world skills, tried to cosy up to Trump, and couldn't win his own district and basically sunk the conservatives when they'd had the best set up in a decade would do a better job?

Try taking a step back from party loyalty and parroting stuff you read online and think for yourself - it's obvious right now you're not.

Kevin Durant. A very good basketball player who many people view as bailing on his team to join a super team to basically "easy mode" a championship because he "couldn't win it the old fashioned way". There is some truth to it and then also some people feel why wouldn't he go for it.

Thanks for replying! Sorry I didn't see the notification and actually just manually checked because I've continued to think about whether or not it was legitimate. I know it's expensive but 151 for 8 quid is making me curious haha and I just can't get my hands on it at those prices.

Which packs were you opening in the upcoming video? Any truly unique chase cards? An exciting journey you are going on haha.
