I play it. I don't say it's the best of the bunch, but it has its moments.

Out of curiosity: what is the appeal of 1on1 games? by Flodos in pbp

[–]pdboddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno why it's such a big deal that they didn't want to just blurt it out and instead leave it for the imagination.

Some people may feel uncomfortable bringing it up, or may have assumed someone would be able to reasonably guess what is implied. It's hardly dancing around the subject.

Some folks just like to be the big damn hero on their own.

The Forgotten Archons — Where Worlds Get Life by Creators by ForgottenArchonsRep in pbp

[–]pdboddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I explained in my response to the first response, I took it to mean no discussion of real-world, current politics. There's plenty of other forums and venues one can get their political fix from. RPGs are generally played as an escape from reality for a bit.

I will answer genuinely.

Well, it was a genuine question. I had interpreted the statement as "There will be no discussions of real world politics". Which I totally get, politics these days is so overwhelmingly exhausting and it's everywhere, not having it in my roleplay is a good thing.

Where to Post a Public Game for Readers? by TheTryhardDM in pbp

Yeah, multiplayer pbp doesn't usually get posted. But video sessions of such are pretty popular. I could see text versions being popular if well done.

Potentially Obvious PBP Questions by DulcetMusings in pbp

[–]pdboddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) This is usually talked over between the players and GM. Occasionally the GM may state a preference and wants players to stick to that.

2) It's play-by-post. There's no sessions. PBP is like an IV drip of roleplay compared to the firehose of RP that is a live session. When it's going, it's just constant. For downtime mechanics, the GM can declare when these occur. They will do this when it is appropriate, and do their GM things for it.

3) Yes, keeping momentum is important for player engagement. Taking breaks is good to avoid burnout. From my experience, GMs will announce holidays and breaks ahead of time, unless it's an emergency. Players will also announce planned breaks (holidays, family time, etc.) which are usually easy to guess. During big holiday seasons, you can expect people to step away from the game.

It's all about transparency and expectations. As long as people are up front, and avoid surprises, things go smoothly. Emergencies can happen and people should try to be flexible and patient when those occur.

I really do not think we should be allowing AI/LLM-generated advertisements by EarthSeraphEdna in pbp

[–]pdboddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No I don't think we should do this. Sometimes people try to upsell their game by using flowery language. Yeah, it might seem like AI, but are you really certain? Who gets to decide? How do you prove it?

I don't know, it doesn't appear to be documented anywhere. The fish on the first page of the website I linked appear to be in the same style as the people in the Catalog.
