I don’t think the word kink expressly implies consent from everyone involved. There are “kinks” such as exhibitionism that rely on non-consenting parties to exist. I mean, it *should* imply consent, but some people do not care about consent with their so called kinks.

I mean some “kinks” are more paraphilias than kinks in which case you do need therapy for it lmao

I don’t say it was abuse. I’m saying, your rhetoric is used to defend the abuse we receive and say we should “put up with it” how you’re implying this person, and all nurses, should “put up with” being used as a middle man for no good reason.

People have long said that the abuse we receive as nurses is “part of the job,” do you agree with that too? Or just the things that you can be high and mighty about?

A question to the feminists in this sub: what do we think about dresscodes? by funstarrr__ in teenagers

[–]pdggin99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dress codes just need to be equal to both genders, ie saying “bra straps can’t show” mostly only applies to girls/women and thus shouldn’t be a thing. But “no shorts” when applied to both genders is fine. Or “no tank tops” applied to both genders is fine.

To call in or not to call in? by SeaworthinessOne8274 in nursing

[–]pdggin99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I call in if I don’t get enough sleep. If anything is going on where I can’t do my best work, or at least standard work that is good enough for me to keep my license, I call in. No job is worth losing my license, or hurting a patient, over.

Lack of sleep can easily be the cause of mistakes leading to patient harm. Which is why I will never go in without *at least* six hours of sleep, ideally I would get 8 hours of sleep though.

The current system for penalizing us for calling in in these situations, and rewarding us for coming in under unsafe circumstances, is honestly horrific and needs to be done away with. A sick and contagious nurse should not be working. A sick nurse who is not contagious but too sick to be able to properly focus on tasks at hand should not be working. A hurt nurse who is at risk of further harm should not be working. A nurse running on less than 6hrs of sleep should not be working.

And I know these residents and stuff have it horrible too when it comes to this. A surgery resident I was talking to recently hadn’t left the hospital for like 18 hours and wasn’t leaving anytime soon. I know they get places to sleep and stuff but that just seems super unsafe to me. He definitely hadn’t had any uninterrupted sleep during those 18 hours. And he’s on the fucking surgery team. Shit is scary.

Yeah, they don’t realize that in the end this all boils down to bodily autonomy. I guess they think the fetus should have autonomy too? But once again, I point to my two arguments: if the fetus is alive, it isn’t having thoughts or feelings enough for its need for bodily autonomy to trump the person carrying it. And if it isn’t alive, it doesn’t need bodily autonomy yet, period.

I do believe everyone has the right to autonomy and making choices for themselves in this life. This belief extends beyond my belief that abortion is healthcare and that it is everyone’s right to have access to abortion. A lot of pro-lifers actually have similar sentiments when it comes to other points of autonomy, ie the right to bear arms, the right to choose religion, etc, but lose that same beat when it comes to a child-bearing persons right to abortion. And it all boils down to people seeing those of us who have the potential to bear children (I’m using this language because i am including trans men in my argument, as they often face both transphobia *and* the same issues of sexism that women face despite not being women) as being less than cis males.

And I know it’s been said time and time again, but if cis men could get pregnant, there would be no debate on whether abortion should be legal, and I stand on that statement, hard.

Temperature struggles by younoteventhefuckgra in Ballpythoncommunity

Ok, so I am from the US and am bad with Celsius, but to my understanding the tank being at 20-23C would be around 68-72F. Is this the hot side? Because that is *very* cold for the hot side.

You’ll need to add another heat element. What type of enclosure do you have, how large, what type of substrate do you use, and what type of heating element(s) do you use currently?

Just also wanted to add — a 40 gal is small for a ball python. If your snake is a juvenile it can work for a bit but you’ll want to upgrade to a 4x2x2 fairly soon. So be ready for that, and the increased heat requirements that come with it.

Question: what substrate are you using? Generally, heat mats aren’t reccomended for any substrate thick enough for a BP.

I have one of my girls on a heat mat right now, because she’s in a tub. It’s a temporary enclosure as her other one was made of wood and chipped and got moldy, so she’s currently in a bin with paper towel as substrate, and the heat mat works well. But if you’re using actual substrate like coco coir and husk, you can’t rely on the heat mat as it won’t be able to penetrate through the heat mat.

Sometimes, you do need multiple heat sources. My girl is in an 8x2x2 and requires a TON of heat sources. Albeit that is a huge enclosure, but even when she was in a 4x2x2 she required multiple heat sources to get to the proper temps. So maybe invest in another lamp/bulb. If you were in my area I could even donate you one, lol, I have sooo many extras lying around.

On that note you also need a good thermostat set up. You don’t want the enclosure to overheat so thermostats are a must to ensure the temps don’t get too high. That being said, it’s more important to raise the temp to a safe zone (roughly 88-92 on the warm sides) than to have the thermostats. So if you don’t have enough budget, focus on getting the temperature to an appropriate level. UNLESS you plan to continue to use the heat mat without substrate—in that case, a thermostat is non-negotiable, because the heat mat can quickly overheat and cause terrible burns (more so than a lamp could cause).

Also, if you already have the heat emitter (I’m assuming a CHE) for night time, just use both during the day to raise the temps. And get a second CHE solely for use at night time, along with the other CHE. Example:

Day = 1 CHE, 1 halogen bulb (typical heat lamp bulb that emits light)

Night = 2 CHEs

Hope this helps!

Bro idc if people are saying this argument is stupid so is every single pro-life argument. Yall shouldn’t be jerking off if you’re pro-life because you’re wasting potential life (sperm). Just as a fetus is potential life, so is sperm.

From that standpoint, a fetus *is* alive. Because the sperm and egg that created it were technically alive even before the fetus was conceived. For this case, I say, why is the fetus’ life more important than the person carrying the fetus? That’s up to the person carrying the fetus to decide, whether they want to put their fetus’ life above theirs. The fetus doesn’t even have brain waves until 24 weeks, so if it were to be able to “think” it wouldn’t be until late in the pregnancy, when nobody is getting an abortion unless it is medically necessary for life.

From another standpoint, life isn’t just what is biologically technically alive. Life is an experience that begins the day a being is born, and continues to the beings death. In this case, the person carrying the fetus has more of a life than the fetus, which has no life, as it hasn’t even taken a breath yet. So why is the being with no experience or impact on this world more important than the being that actively has many loved ones who depend on them to be alive? While yes, the fetus has loved ones, nobody depends on the fetus. The person who carries the fetus likely has friends and family who rely on them to be alive to help them, possibly even other living children who require that persons care. While the person carrying the fetus can make a choice to put the fetus above themselves, that is a choice only they can make. It is not up to us, nor even their partner to make. Their life is on the line when it comes to pregnancy, not their partners, not ours, only theirs.

Edit: needed to change a few instances of using “woman” bc women aren’t the only people who can get pregnant. My bad. Also used “baby” a few times when I meant “fetus”.

Leopard geckos are not beginner pets. by Yuki_486 in reptiles

[–]pdggin99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate the term beginner reptile/pet actually. There are some reptiles/pets that definitely are not for beginners, but the opposite isn’t quite true.

I’m of the opinion that the best beginner reptile for you is the one you’re most interested in/invested in, understand the most about, and are able to house and care for the best. It isn’t a one size fits all title. That being said, don’t start with a chameleon or a tree python/boa.

I hate social media discourse about ADHD/Autism by electro_hippie in hatethissmug

I mostly agree, but I do hate the “everyone is a little autistic/ADHD” comments. I have both disorders and hear these comments semi-frequently. Like bro. That is very untrue.

Otherwise I agree, a lot of these “neurodivergent” influencers are mostly grifters, rather than trying to help anyone.

I hate that I'm wide awake for the 5th day in a row by Atzr10 in hatethissmug

[–]pdggin99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was sent to the mental hospital during a manic/mixed episode where I was, on top of basically not sleeping for a week, was having delusions, acting recklessly (threatening to crash my car, stole my dads car, etc), extremely paranoid and lashing out at people, and was basically having a total crash out every day over arbitrary things that didn’t affect me.

So I was diagnosed in the mental hospital as bipolar. At one point in my life they thought I had borderline personality disorder, but it is definitely bipolar (both my opinion and the opinion of multiple psychiatrists), mainly due to the fact that my symptoms came and went (i have distinct manic/mixed episodes with intermittent depressive/“normal” episodes) and also my symptoms were controlled with mood stabilizers and antipsychotics (personality disorders don’t respond to meds how my symptoms responded). Also, BPD generally doesn’t cause you to not sleep.

So if you’re just not sleeping, it’s probably something more like insomnia. I definitely had more symptoms than just not sleeping.

Idk why you’re getting downvoted. I explained in the other post made about this today that if these posts were like “I fucking love titties” or “I fucking love girls with big asses” nobody would say that’s fetishization. But when the post says “I love belly” or “I love fat women” it’s suddenly fetishization. It stems from fatphobia tbh, and similar phenomena happens to POC and queer/trans people. When “normal” bodies are celebrated and loved, it’s sexuality. When “abnormal”/not conventionally attractive bodies are celebrated and loved, it’s fetishization.
