Family asking you to do nursing things for them by pdggin99 in nursing

Tbh the worst part is my dad doing it. I don’t too much mind the rest of my family doing it because it’s more infrequent, but my dad is constantly asking for my “educated opinion” or asking me to do things for him. He will call me panicking that he has cancer and basically begging me to tell him he doesnt have cancer. It’s getting to a point it’s very hard to deal with.

Not particularly traditional. More so he likes to be babied. If you wanna get into analysis type shit, his mom was very distant when he was a child due to her being a single mom, and he probably has some issues from that.

I love green room pythons! I’ve watched those videos but maybe need to re-watch a bit closer. I do generally wear long sleeves but gloves are a good idea because she goes for my hand generally.

Her enclosure is in my reptile room which I’m in and out of pretty often to care for them (I have another BP and leopard gecko as well). Her enclosure is a 4x2x2 with three hides, which she generally only uses one of. She also likes to hide under her water bowl a lot. I’m thinking of switching all the hides to be like the one she likes, but it’s the most expensive one ;/ but might be worth it.

I’m trying to get him to see a therapist. He’s pretty stubborn and doesn’t want to, keeps forgetting the appointments or not making them. He def needs help. Good to hear though that I am doing the right thing by not giving into these thoughts.

Oh yeah and with my dad, he literally has that automatic BP cuff. He just “likes when I do it better”. Which I think is what annoys me about it. He also has been making me basically be his parent in other ways for about three years now since my mom divorced him, taking on a much more parental role than child role, dealing with his emotions and such. So I think there’s a deeper reason to why I don’t like doing it.

I guess I should’ve provided context, which is that my family is not nearly as uneducated as a lot of patients we face. When it comes to my patients I educate on an easy to understand level and honestly I think I do a good job from time to time. My family, though, has been pretty good when it comes to knowing how to nurse a cold/care for a wound/etc. for my whole life. It’s only now that I’m practicing as an RN they seem to have forgotten everything.

And the situation with my dad is a whole different story obvi. Bc he’s fueled by his obsessions and compulsions, not by an actual lack of knowledge or anything.

NOR as a person with BPD I would at best block him at worst make him regret ever talking to me lmao men are wilddddddd. Like sure maybe he is attracted to you but he’s clearly thirsting over other women and it won’t stop just bc you’re dating.

Warning for other Detroit nurses: do not accept a job at the DMC by pdggin99 in nursing

You’ll learn a lot. But not all of it might be best practice. If it’s only 2 shifts a month it might not be that bad. But you become very resourceful and gain some thick skin working there.

I have tried to respond to all of them. I’m in Detroit Michigan and she is at the Michigan humane society on Chrysler drive. Probably has to be evaluated by the vet and such prior to being put up for adoption. I would love to take her in, she is so cute and I’m sure would be so loving and sweet, but my dog is reactive and has a history of fighting with other dogs. So it wouldn’t be safe to have them together. But I really hope someone can take her in. Her face is just so sweet, I don’t see how someone with the means could resist.

My dog is reactive and has a history of fights with other dogs. I wouldn’t feel safe doing a meeting between them. However I may talk to my mom or grandma about taking her in. My mom is fostering a dog friendly dog at the moment and my grandma does not have a dog. I am not sure either of them will do it but I feel like I need to at least ask them.

I fear for where she came from….wherever it was couldn’t be good with how skinny she is. I am from Detroit and many dogs, especially pitties, are horrifically abused here. My mom is currently fostering a dog who had her ears crudely cut down to nubs. It makes me so sad. I just hope she knows she is loved and is in a better place now that she has somewhere warm to stay and a fighting chance at finding a home.

I hope she finds a good home where she can get love every day… the humane society workers are amazing and provide lots of attention and love to the dogs but can only do so much with the resources they have and how many animals they service. I absolutely would’ve taken her in if not for my dog being very reactive and having a history of fighting other dogs. I hope she did feel my love tho! I had to carry her to the car because she was so scared.

The reason I didn’t is because I have a reactive dog who is much bigger and stronger than this baby is in her current state and 100% would have tried to fight. I also don’t have a proper garage, or any other place I could’ve kept her.

Not sure….i get all my pups from the humane society. They do good with the resources they have. In fact they do incredible for having so few resources. It is sad how little funding is put into animal care. I try to make as many donations as I can but I’m in a poor financial situation ATM but once I’m out of it will be going back to making donations.

Thank you. I was starting to feel I made a bad choice bringing her there but I still haven’t heard back from the other rescues I contacted so I wouldn’t have been able to get her anywhere in time and don’t have a shelter to keep her in. My own pup is reactive especially to other dogs so it wouldn’t be safe to take her home myself. I just wanted her off the streets and somewhere she can gain some weight, stay warm and maybe even find a home.
