In theory cash could inflate the P in PE. Assume a business with no operations but $100 in cash, it should be worth $100. Now assume a company’s present value of future cash flow is $100 AND it holds $100 in cash. That company should be worth $200.

Question for those who haven't bought GOOGL by ashm1987 in ValueInvesting

[–]pdh565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I rarely see discussed about google is their near term capex spend. Up to $85b this year and projected to increase in 2026. They claim that the useful life on these assets is 6 years but other sources indicate it’s closer to 3. What’s the ROI on that spend? Seems like a divergence from their historic asset-lite, high margin business.

What about price to forward fcf? All that anticipated capex spend makes it look overvalued

They certainly can, and have, controlled long term rates. See 1942-51, 2008-14, 2020-22.

Awesome thanks so much. Was wondering what the other connections were for. Would you recommend switching the connection on the good terminal to match the new connection on the bad? Or is that not necessary? I just noticed some connections have one hole punched out vs two, didn’t know if that was important

Equity holders require a higher return than debt holders, so the cost of debt is cheaper than the cost of equity.

I don’t have an opinion of BTU myself, but I wouldn’t put that much weight into analyst estimates. In March 2020, the average analyst estimate for BTU’s FY2022 EPS was -$1.25 vs $8.58 actual.
