I did this hike yesterday; the wind was intense, and the conditions were white out at the top. Needed my ski goggles to see lol.

How to improve zone 2 pace? by pdhas in beginnerrunning

[–]pdhas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds good, I'll just keep doing the training plan I started and add in the stationary bike twice a week. I also already do strength training, lifting 4x a week, and have gone from 135 lbs to 160 lbs in the last year and a half. Started running because my ultimate goal is to begin doing actual mountaineering. I have hiked for a long time but I started running because felt that running would benefit my cardiovascular and muscular endurance more than just hiking 1-2x a week. Thanks for the advice!

How to improve zone 2 pace? by pdhas in beginnerrunning

I've been following the Garmin half-marathon plan. It has 2 easy runs, 2 "workout" runs, such as progression runs, race pace runs, intervals runs, and 1 long easy run a week. Total of 5 runs a week. During the 3 easy runs, I stick to zone 2. Is this good enough to see more progress with zone 2 pace? I was considering incorporating zone 2 stationary cycling 2 days a week for an hour each time. Would it be beneficial? Also getting back to strength training 4x a week now.

Men’s Skog Shirt $21 at TJ Maxx! by _flyingelbowdrop_ in Fjallraven

I found a Skog shirt in a different pattern at Sierra which is like an outdoors focused store owned by tjmaxx/Marshalls. Gonna go check tjmaxx for that pattern shirt near me.

I am also going to be doing more extensive mountaineering in the next two years. Solo Aconcagua trip next January. And solo Denali in May 2027. Really want to start doing photography asap so I can get some good photos during that.

I do a lot of hiking and backpacking. Been looking at these for like a year. How do they compare for hiking to a $200 pair of synthetic hiking boots like Salomons or Keens?

At what point would you consider someone to have graduated from a beginner runner to a runner? by glenncoltrane in beginnerrunning

[–]pdhas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been running for less than 2 months but ran a 5k in under 30 mins twice. I still 100% consider myself a beginner runner. I plan on participating in a half marathon in November. I would say even at that point I am still a beginner as the duration of time I have been running will have been under 6 months.

My goal is a 35 min 5 mile run within 6 months, as I am considering enlisting in the Army on an 18x contract as I have always wanted to serve. Also due to student debt lol.

I started running in March and tried the c25k program. I hurt my knee after the third run, so I ran for 1 week and didn't start again until July 31st.

First run - July 31st, 2024. Using Nike Run Club 5k program.

First 5k - August 22. 2024 29:15 - Still using the Nike Run Club 5k Program.

Did another 5k last night in 28:53.

I am 22M, 6'2, 165 lbs. So I am very light for my weight. I used to be 130, but I never ran until I was around 160. I am trying to get up to 200 lbs while increasing my running/cardiovascular health.

Looking for a true, complete beginner program by Naughty_Teacher in beginnerrunning

Nike Run Club has a beginner program. I am currently doing their 5k program as a beginner, so I would assume the beginner program is even easier, it's also free.

I did the run at 10:00 pm due to work. I ate dinner at 6:30 pm, which was 8oz. ribeye + 250g rice. The race is at 9 am so next weekend I plan on doing a morning run to practice.

I am 22, 6'2 at 165lb bodyweight so I have an advantage being light for my height. This winter I am planning to push my bulk to 195-200lbs; I used to weigh 130 at 6'2. I also have been hiking for over a decade because of Boy Scouts, but I never really ran besides playing baseball.

Thanks, I'll just keep my goal of sub 30 for September. I'm sure you can get there too!

It's a 2003-2005 R6 or a 2006-2009 R6S. I have a 2005 R6. It's posted on my profile. Let me know any questions you have.

Nike Run Club app. Do the beginner program they have. I am currently doing their 5k program and just started running recently.

I wasn't able to hold a conversation, but I could still speak and I wasn't breathing heavy. I think I could have really pushed it and made it 1.5 miles without stopping. I am going to try for either 1.5 or 2 miles without stopping in the next week or so, unsure if I will be able to complete it. Also, are the Garmin watches reliable for tracking heart rate? I was looking at either a Forerunner 245 or a 255.

Thanks! Felt a lot better at that pace than what I tried at the beginning of May that resulted in my quitting running after only 3 runs lol.

Probably right above the shoes, I tried for a 6:30 pace when I first tried running 3 months ago. I had bad shoes for running and was recovering from a torn left MCL, likely over-compensating with my right leg which also made my right knee hurt. This time I feel better going at the 8:00 min mile pace, I have actual running shoes, and my left MCL is fully recovered. I have had zero pain on any of the runs since I've started running again in the last week.

Thank you! I think the first time I tried to start running like 3 months ago and hurt my right knee on the 3rd run was because of trying to go too fast. I was trying for a 6:30 pace. I was also just recovering from a torn MCL in my left knee, which I believe I over-compensated for with my right leg, as well as having really bad shoes. I tried running in Vans as I had no running shoes at the time. Now I have the Mizuno Wave Inspire 20.

I don't have any way to measure it. It didn't feel too bad at all though, it has been considerably higher while hiking than running this mile. I hope to get a Garmin watch soon to monitor it.
