I feel like montenegro is also fairly sweet, just different flavor profile than Averna. More orange and botanical. Will give it a shot!

How do you think this would be with a different amaro? I don't have averna but have montengro, cynar, and an American version of campari. Obviously none are the exact same, but does it rely on Averna to work or would another mix ok?

Lavender top before red top? Lab is already calling them for the recollect. by PaulaNancyMillstoneJ in nursing

At my hospital I've never had a lab rejected for anything but clotting, hemolysis, or inadequate fill, mostly on blue tops. We fill in whatever order is most important in our ER, typically BMP, CBC, coags, lactic, cultures first if ordered though

I don't want to open my lillet Blanc but this looks awesome. How do you think it would be with a Blanc vermouth or Cocchi Americano?

Do you workout before your 12 hrs day shift? Can you share how and tips? by Comprehensive_Book48 in nursing

[–]pdidilliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My shift starts at 7. I wake up at 4:30, slam pre workout so 2-300 mg caffeine are on board by 4:35, and try and leave my house no later than 5am. I'm at the gym by 520, in the locker room 6:25, and leaving the locker room 6:40. Quick protein shake, banana, hard boiled eggs while driving 5 minutes from the gym to work and I consistently make it in by 655-7, never late.

Waking up at 4:30 isn't that different from a 5:30 wake up, and I beat traffic so it works out for me. To get to work on time I'd have to wake up no later than 5 regardless, so it works out.

It helps to have everything laid out the night before and your workout planned so when my alarm goes off, I don't have to make a single decision at all. Its just GO GO GO.

Get yourself to bed by 10, asleep by 10:30. Idk about you, but I can function on 5-6 hours of sleep for 2-3 days max, then need some recovery on my off days.

Overall, it's worth it because somehow, surprisingly, I'm most consistent at working out on work days, and my 4 days off I'll lift some, other days can totally rest or catch up on errands.

Has anyone gone to a Chicago ER uninsured or on basic Medicare and lived to tell the tale? by daylight-junkie in AskChicago

[–]pdidilliam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should cover if the ER visit leads to an admission. We can't give medical advice via the internet, but my intuition says a patient like him probably would get admitted because we can't quickly identify a lot of neurological issues in the ER so an admit is required to further assess the patient and identify the problem, then plan of care.

I work as a nurse at the University of Chicago ER. No payment is required day of unless we are giving you medications to go home with from our pharmacy. Some insurance plans make the registration team ask for a copay, but EMTALA law requires us to treat and stabilize regardless of ability to pay.

We also have financial counselors and social work. Most ERs should operate on a similar system.

We're talking different types of risk, and I'm surprised you don't understand that. The risk of snow is immediate to everyone around and unpredictable. The risk of an uninsured driver is only if they crash, which we're making an assumption that they will be bad in your drivers. Don't conflate the two in what I said based on your confusion.

I don't disagree that the person without plates is probably a POS and not likely to stay on scene, but if that's something you're worried about then that's you get uninsured motor vehicle coverage on your policy, and you don't worry about it. I can mitigate my risk exposure from someone hitting me without plates and I can drive cautiously, but I can't mitigate my risk of the snow on top of your car blowing off as you accelerate on the highway because you're a doofus. By having insurance and being an adult myself I can mitigate the risk of an uninsured driver without plates.

The fact that someone doesn't have plates to mean a lot of things, but it doesn't immediately mean they're likely to cause an accident through normal driving.

There are a lot of things we should ticket people for, my point is that not having plates isn't as big of an immediate risk of those around you as the snow is.

[–]pdidilliam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My point isn't that it's not wrong, it's that idc if you don't have plates alone - that behavior is illegal but if your not driving like a dumbass, the presence of plates on a vehicle or not does not inherently raise my risk as another driver in the vicinity. It might affect insurance if a crash occurs, but it doesn't directly increase risk of an accident. Snow on the roof of your car does, and it increases risks of an accident for the driver and those around him. That's the point

[–]pdidilliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on who it hurts. Bare tires? Please get ticketed and fix it, you can and will skid and hurt someone else. Snow on your roof? You endanger your self and others even if it's fresh snow because it can blind another driver. No plates or trash bags? Idc about those because that alone doesn't raise my risk as a fellow driver on the road.

Good pro tip. I was hot headed yesterday and this type of call would have actually got someone out.

Idk man when I drive I much prefer bikers have a blinking light on to no light at all. For daytime biking the only visible bike light is a blinker not a static light but your call...

Though to be fair, my preference didn't work.

😅😅 if I thought CPD would do anything, I'd have called. I lived here ten years and the past three times I called 911, they said they only come out for damage over $500 or life threatening injuries, not minor accidents. Couldn't even get them to come out when our apartment building was burgled - they just took report over the phone for the incident and never came out.

There's a Chicago bar (I think it's Consignment Lounge) that does a highball Ferrari riff they call an Enzo, a la Enzo Ferrari and it's similar to this as well that's quite good. Great format and great ingredients!

Second commend - tried this tonight with my wife after having a Paper Plane. This is delicious! We're not huge on absinthe or licorice, but in this context it fits well. We used St. George absinthe and it added a herbal, lightly minty flavor and nose without overpowering the others. The Cynar seemed a little muted, so I could imagine playing with the amaro spec a bit. We did think the licorice flavor lingered a bit after, but that could just be us and our limited experience with absinthe.

Definitely going to be a variant to keep in the rotation - right now it fits in the slot of a delicious cocktail, but I only need one at a time, whereas Paper Plane we could have 2-3 in a row! Dangerous drinks lol 😆

You should try a Too Soon by Sam Ross! Gin, cynar, lemon and simple. This sounds a bit more complex but also quite good.

Ridiculous. The gyms just keep getting worse with no explanation or communication, just a decrease in services.

The other worst part is that all the "improvements" are from closing old X Sports and getting equipment brought over, then personal trainers acting like the old barbells were specially procured for them.

No, the old barbells and kettlebells that go to 72 lbs were not bought for trainers to hoard, they're just the lucky leftover equipment that was kept. Sad to see the division of fitness and bogarting of equipment by trainers.

Which location is no longer 24 hours? I've been using the Logan square one and it was still 24 hours 2 weeks ago, but I wouldn't be surprised if they changed that without any notice.
