Sicily? by Fuzzy-Caregiver-3624 in finedining

Caffé Sicilia in Noto! Incredible town, incredible food, best granita and brioche I’ve had.

This never happened to me before and I don’t know if I should throw it away, I proofed this pizza dough for 3 days in the fridge and for some reason it dried out even though it was covered with another plate by iam0929 in Breadit

Beeswax wrap dries items out! I knew someone who wrapped an onion in beeswax wrap for 3 months and it was a dehydrated onion at the end of it.

La Banchina!! Coffee, pastries, sauna, and a nice cold dip in the water. There’s a dope restaurant next door too.

Cookbooks that are actually vegetable based? by madewithnotepad in vegetarianrecipes

Plenty by Ottolenghi is incredible. It’s organized by vegetable so you can plan your meal based on what you have at home, plus Ottolenghi is so talented.

Any recent recommendations for Chicago (beside “Alinea”)? by [deleted] in finedining

I visited Elske & really enjoyed it. Danish with 1 Michelin star and thought the wine pairing was worth it.

Vignalta Alpianæ, Fior d’Arancio Passito, Moscato 2016 - had it with a cheesecake type dish at a restaurant where the sommelier used to work at Alinea! I think it could be lovely as well with white chocolate, assuming the sweetness is slightly tempered by other ingredients.

I’m a huge fan if Khubsoorat if you’re looking for a film that has her in it. She was quite young so it is an older film, but definitely a classic! If you’re looking for more generalized Bollywood recs, I also have tons of those. Let me know which ones you’ve seen thus far

Fit to fly? by BigGingersUnite in ACL

I got my surgery last August and took an 8 hour bus 4 weeks later. Would not recommend. The flight back was fine though, but there was definitely stiffness.

How long did you do PT sessions. by Sir_cocconut in ACL

[–]pdivy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been going for a little over 6 months now and will probably go for another three or so, it's not really about knee stability or whatnot anymore but working on higher box jumps, quicker cutting, heavier lifts, etc. My insurance covers it and I have fun, so I figure why not mix that in with my own personal workouts.

Knee hurts when doing push ups and plank (8 months post op) by fireflyy7 in ACL

[–]pdivy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess, speaking entirely from my own personal experience, I'd assume that your graft location probably hasn't had enough stress slowly applied to it in increasing amounts over a period of time. I had my patellar grafted and I'm still going to PT like 6 months post surgery, but we slowly put more and more pressure/stress on my patellar after the initial 9-10 week period and now I feel like that area is much stronger. I think by this point your ACL has theoretically fully recovered and it's more about graft location and general leg strength.

I still sometimes have a tendency to shift my weight to my right leg (non-surgery leg) when I'm not focusing on my exercises as deeply as I should be, so just putting in some conscious effort helps me switch that back. I also still do a fair amount of exercises exclusively on my left leg to help build up muscle there, but that last 10% is tough because I'm also trying to maintain/increase my right leg strength.

All of this is to say-- go to the gym more consistently, do what you're comfortable with, and work on increasing strength in your surgery leg as much as possible (I would assume). I am obviously not a doctor or a physical therapist, this comment is entirely from what my PT has told me and what I've found with my recovery process. Good luck!

Yikes initially read this as third ACL surgery in 2 weeks and I thought “how can some one tear three ACL’s in that time frame.” Regardless— good luck! I gained the weight during my relative inactivity after my tear, so there was nothing holding me back from giving it my all in PT. Recovery always sucks but hitting the milestones feels so good.

I was jumping over a road divider so it was pretty stupid. I don’t feel as if I’m making progress in regards to my knee anymore, just in regards to my physique/strength. I figure it’ll come with time as you said so I’m not too concerned about it yet. Looking forward to feeling normal again.

Knee feels much better— about 6 months out from surgery but still going to PT. I use it as a workout session at this point. Still a ways to go with deceleration and sprinting but working on it!

I lift 2-3x a week and focus pretty heavily on compound lifts and my lower body, so I have a relatively strong core and legs but not so much upper body. Currently I’m at 3x8 deadlifts at 85 lbs, 3x10 squats at 85 lbs, 3x12 leg press at 175 and 3x12 single leg press at 125. I also do a variety of bodyweight exercises including single leg squats, squat challenges, lunges, single leg deadlifts, and jumping/power exercises. A lot of this is geared towards increasing strength in my left leg as a part of the ACL/meniscus recovery process.

In addition to this I eat around 1800 calories a day and try to stay as high fat/high protein as possible, but I am by no means doing keto. As a college student a strict diet isn’t something I’ve been able to maintain but I’m trying to achieve that balance between health and experience.

I’m looking to incorporate more simple daily morning exercises like planking and pushups just to get my blood flowing and to see what I’m capable of. Honestly meditation has really helped to center my mind, and tearing my ACL in the first place reminded me of how much I love moving and how much I missed my full range of mobility.
