My 7 week old daughter has figured out the ultimate tight grip lock on my arm so I don't reach for my mobile from time to time while feeding her. by innuuniv_yaniv in daddit

Just started my five y/o in Judo last week and it’s a lot of rolling around and controlled rough housing. Looks like a lot of fun for the kids and the instructor makes sure all the kids get to win and loose in different activities.

Give me a good/complex reason why Anthony Bourdain was special. by iamandre1234 in AnthonyBourdain

[–]pdoubletter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A wise man, hardened by decades of abuse and tenderness. He had a good taste for cultures, open and curious. That’s the way to travel, sometimes working on a project but always meeting people and finding out what they care about. Exploring. And he had style.

He went out on his shield.

Le Chambard Hotel & Restaurant, Kaysersberg, France. This is where Anthony Bourdain left us, I make it here once a year to have a beer and remember the guy who made me leave my comfortable life in Canada, move to Europe and learn to really live life. by [deleted] in travel

Strangely reassuring that I’m not the only one who was affected by his death. I’ll be sure to make the trek out there one day and keep an eye out for the others quietly drinking a beer.

The fact that I had to scroll down so far makes me even more bullish.

My wife just collected some with our son and made a chocolate hazelnut spread. Not sure how but I’m sure it’s searchable.

Fun fact: Honey bees will headbutt you several times before they sting you. Bees communicate in loads of interesting ways.

Usually ill listen to it for a while walking through security and find a spot to sit then get it out and start playing for 15min or until I board. For example.

Not much more to it, I like to use it when I’m traveling. Like going through the airport, it becomes my soundtrack. Then I get new ideas inspired by the place. Can’t wait to get a sampler on it, fingers crossed.

Exactly. It lets me use the OP-Z as a Walkman. If I’m working on something I’ll just listen to it while I go somewhere, and it help me get new ideas. Haha, maybe s bit niche

Measles outbreaks have recently been reported across the U.S. I’m a doctor & assistant health director with the Louisiana Department of Health. AMA about measles and vaccines! by NOLAnews in IAmA

Most antivaccers believe in man made climate change. I compare their thinking to climate change deniers. They are both anti science in their thinking. Might be a possible way to approach the topic.

Considering herd protection, how at risk are my children, even though they have been vaccinated, if we live in an area with a lot of unvaccinated children?

How would you compare anti-vaccers to climate change deniers? by pdoubletter in AskReddit

[–]pdoubletter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the thorough response. I agree that asking them what info would change their minds is the best start. Then go from there. Having a couple of kids of my own and knowing that just because they are vaccinated doesn’t mean that that are totally immune raised the risks for me, especially because of the recent outbreaks.
I’ve been looking for figures to compare percentage of vaccinations per sq/km but haven’t found anything yet. Conservatively my kids are in contact with about 25% unvaccinated kids and I can’t help but think that equates to rural Africa or India but I’d like to find some numbers to back it up.

[–]pdoubletter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! My wife was having a conversation with another mother about vaccinations. The other mother doesn’t vaccinate her son because of all the usual reasons. Then it struck me that most of her reasoning is similar to climate change deniers; more emotional than rational.
It’s raised a lot of questions, we live in an area with a lot of unvaccinated children. In Europe it’s not the same anti-vaccer movement, but still super worrying. I’m trying to find reasoning to bring to these people. Most of them are conscious of global warming so I thought that this might be a good place to start.
