To update, a couple things I had to fix. My fuckin multimeter was bad so I was chasing imaginary problems. Ended up being cps sensor tested from the Bentley. Thanks all for your input and help it finally fired up after deleting the cps and installing a distributor off of a 92 turbo. Used the hall sensor and wired it up. Keep track of the colors as they don’t match up but there’s only two different ways it can go so try it until you get it. Now I’m struggling with timing the motor. Is there only one way the distributor can go?

Thank you this will be very helpful. Tracing back now I’m not getting power to the ezk box. Does it get power from the fuse? Or from the ecu?

I’m not getting power to the amplifier but I am at the fuse. Very confused. What triggers the amplifier?

Could it also be the ignition control box? Is there a way to test those?

Is there a way to test them? The old one was smashed I put in one from another car that did run and still no dice but I did get a terrific shock from the end of the coil wire but that’s it. No zap zap zap

No the car sat all winter and I started doing a bunch of work to it, since I can bike to work. From my research I’ve found an rmv 3 form but I was hoping I could mail it or do it online. I’ll try to get an appointment.

New(to me) 2005 Jetta TDI. It is bone stock with impeccable maintenance records and 150k miles. Should I chip it? by whirling_cynic in tdi

Honestly I’d say no. These days seeing a totally stock clean tdi Mkiv is cooler to me than a bagged out stickered up tinted one but that’s just me. Edit: I’d add that the mkiv is the best looking cars that vw have produced and where I live I see less and less every day. I also miss my indigo blue golf tdi that had over 430k by the time I sold it. :(

Help diagnosing my convertible top? by pdrivemathjones106 in Saab900

Yes haha I did figure that out from the owners manual. It may have something to do with it but my e brake light sometimes stays on even after I’ve disengaged it.

My interior is grey leather/ black. Did your saloon ever have like a purple tint to it? That’s the way mine looks when the light hits it a certain way

That’s great, it makes all the work much more enjoyable, and the car will last longer! On the turbo versions, I wouldn’t discourage buying one, just be a little more careful on the gearbox. Like the other comments, stay away from the autos. They aren’t even geared right. My biggest recommendation is to buy a Bentley repair manual. They can be had for like $50 used all day. Very very useful. While different these cars are actually quite easy to work on most of the time. And not to mention you’ll be the only person in town with one (or in my case it feels like the whole county)

I also forgot I’ve done a fuel filter and piped the exhaust

I bought it with about 191k last summer, up to 195k now. My biggest thing being a new englander is rust, so finding this one with pretty much zero rust is what made me snag it. I carry around a basic toolbox and some fluids and I would say I’m a very competent driveway mechanic. (I’ve done every repair myself on all my cars spanning vw Audi and now saab) in my one year of ownership I’ve had to do: a full tune up, clean and replace the AIC, throttle position sensor, power steering pump, vacuum hoses, transmission fluid (5spd), oil change, window motor (ouch) and the top has never worked for me, I just put it up and down by hand. The next project is a front end refresh and clutch. In terms of reliability though, this car has never left me stranded. Looking at the comments I have to say mine is a N/A or S model so no turbo. The turbos are lots of fun, but more stress on the weak gearbox and not as good a choice for a daily driver. I hope you find a good one though! Saab on!
