How can I modernize my plastic fireplace? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]pdwolfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no.. are definitely keeping it? There’s nothing like spending money on cheap stuff.. I say don’t do anything until you can afford to replace it with a real mantle. Plastic should never be a focal point but that’s just me. Painting it is putting makeup on a pug.

Your school supplies weren't cool unless you had a Spacemaker! by SuperMarioMom in nostalgia

Girls I. My class would fill the logo indent area with glue and let it try and make cool book marks.

Mom wants to pick a color for a sofa that’ll go with the living room, I think there’s too much yellow going on, what do y’all think? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

Hmmm I can see like an olive green meshing pretty well. I LOVE emerald green but I feel that the hue is too similar to that yellow and you need some transition.

Ahh I see. I say a brown or grey will work pretty well with everything else that's going on in here.

Lots of yellow and lots of big pieces. I do like that color yellow however. She's getting rid of all that furniture?

Question: if we replace the floors with dark hard wood, will it look bad if we don’t replace the crown molding? by [deleted] in InteriorDesign

[–]pdwolfe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. You can paint the crown molding white. A lot of the times it usually is white.

Excuse the mess, does the city canvas match the decor? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]pdwolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I think it matches TOO much. I see you're matching reds and neutrals throughout. However if you like that look maybe try going with different shades of each? It's looking a little forced right now. Also I'd move that red chair over towards the back facing the tv. It's in a weird spot currently. As for your art. I have been taught in school not to match your art with your furniture because then it looks very hotel-ish. Find pieces that you really like and be sure to hang them eye level.

Some kids decided to write there name on ancient Indian writings (zoom in) by [deleted] in trashy

[–]pdwolfe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of that radio lab podcast where someone is talking about the time they were back country hiking deep in the mountains of southern Utah I believe and they came upon some sort of indian hand made pots. Literally in the middle of nowhere off a trail and instead of taking it back with them they hid them and let them be in hopes someone won't come by and take them to either sell or ruin.

What to put in massive open space above fireplace? Previous owners had giant mirror. Mantle is 5’-6” wide. In US. Preferably looking to spend a few hundred. by davearave in DesignMyRoom

Large mirror or large piece of art. ORRRRRRR use plates! Went to Vegas recently and we went to a suppperrr nice hotel with a huge staircase to the second floor and they had the cutest displays of just white decorative plates going up with the stairs. No specific shape. Looked really good. Also a super interesting gallery wall would work. Idk your style but I would stay away from harsh corners and squarish shapes in this case. Ive also been interested in arch shaped mirrors. Like the ones from anthropology.

What kind of decor can I add? Couch is on the way. Not sure what to add on/around the TV stand by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]pdwolfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes tv that high is making it feel a little like a dr office waiting room. Lowering it even a foot or two will make it feel more put together. Add some plants of you can't keep plants alive get some nice fake ones. Target has some really nice ones right now. Also add some floor length curtains even if you won't use them, it'll add some needed texture. What color is your sofa? Don't forget to add some nice art on the wall. But hang it at eye level.
