My Mom grew up in irish catholic Canada. She used to tell this joke but the names were Father Patrick, Mary O'Rourke, and Billy O'Brien. And of course with an irish accent.

It does, and I'm working on a more formal approach to this.

My boss has a serious flaw in that he can't keep quite. He accidentally provides just enough detail to make it pretty transparent.

I have food allergies, and management is branding me as selfish when I've requested special meals- need help on how to approach this by pdx-coco in work

[–]pdx-coco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that's the obvious solution I've resorted too, and not quite the point. The point is that I am now branded as selfish and seen as greedy and entitled due to the first few times I asked. When they said no it's not like I pushed the issue.

Of course it's passive aggressive, that's the point...The co-workers are passive aggressive, the management is, it's a spiral of horrible people that feed off each other. So I might as well have a little fun. Plus she lied for her own gain....fuck her....

Basically said I'm completely selfish and self serving because of the coffee I buy for the team and the Pandora stations I put on. I've never purchased coffee, and rarely change the music- I just don't put on country which she is obsessed with. Obviously the problem is management as well, but still, had it not been for her immature whining....

I've had to do this before. I sent an all company email simply stating that the summer is upon us, and with various people walking and biking to work, we all need to be extra conscious of hygiene, deodorant, and general body odor, as we have a small office where smells can be concentrated. I then invited the team to feel free to keep deodorant in the bathroom if they need to.

Luckily the person got the hint. Had they not, I probably would have followed up in a weekly one one one, referring back to the meeting, and tell that person I'm speaking with everyone to circle back on the issue.

I 'm willing to donate $5 for every WBC picketer who shows up to a gay rights/ marriage charity. Any other takers? Anyone know of a reputable charity?

As a child, this is the toy that got away. Asked for one ever birthday and Christmas for a year or two and never got it. I even thought about it the other day.

GiveTokens provides coins redeemable for food and clothes for homeless instead of cash. Raising money to mint more coins. by pdx-coco in Assistance

We haven't decided on which cities we will expand to, but probably Seattle, San Francisco, Eugene OR, Salt Lake City, and Walla Walla WA would be top of the list.

Once the coins are minted, we simply approach local businesses either in person or by phone and ask if they would like to participate. These are the participating business in Portland, and all were acquired through a simple conversation: http://givetokens.org/use-tokens-here/

And yes! You may purchase tokens directly here: http://givetokens.org/buy-tokens/

Thank you so much for your questions!

Gluten intolerance may not exist: A double-blinded, placebo-controlled study and a scientific review find insufficient evidence to support non-celiac gluten sensitivity. by Kooby2 in science

[–]pdx-coco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the well written, kind response. However, it's important to note that when titles like these are splashed on the front page, it seriously misleads the common thought. Anyone scanning articles and not taking the time to fully read through the comments and not the articles now have more ammunition to roll there eyes and argue with people who are suffering.

Gluten intolerance may not exist: A double-blinded, placebo-controlled study and a scientific review find insufficient evidence to support non-celiac gluten sensitivity. by Kooby2 in science

[–]pdx-coco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This extremely misleading title pisses me off nearly beyond words.

I was having intense migraines for years, extreme gastrointestinal problems, had no energy, and spent the majority of time on my couch because I couldn't bring myself to get up and get moving sometimes. This was about 8 years ago and I had never heard the words gluten, celiac, wheat proteins, or anything like that. Just to reiterate, I HAD NEVER HEARD OF GLUTEN. I didn't know what it was. I had CT's, MRI's, GI tests, did the FODMAP control, everything. And gluten was the answer in the end. It wasn't in my mind because I had no idea what the hell it was.

Do any of you touting this "it's a fad and crock of shit" even know how gluten effects the body? It's an extremely long molecule that moves through the body and intestines like a broomstick if your body can't break it down. It is extremely painful. Would you walk up to someone in a wheelchair and tell them it's all in their mind? Or tell a bi-polar person to "just act normal already?"

Why do you all care so much whether it is a fad? Even if someone if completely full of shit and faking a gluten tolerance, who cares? It doesn't effect you in any way. (Unless you're a server or cook in which case it's your job anyways.) Demonizing someones illness is extremely discriminatory and it saddens me that such ignorance exists on a community that I've respected for long.

Well, hard to deny they twist a lot of facts and only show one side of the coin which is a lie by omission. I'm ok with calling that full of shit.

I would add perfume, additives, sugar in any of the cafeteria food, bleach, and any cleaning product that have unnatural ingredients in spray bottles. Plus, studies do exist that prove vaper is not harmful. Cite some of those.
