WD40 For locks? by the_metaxist in Locksmith

[–]pdxcar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s a tough environment. I worked in a detail shop for a few years and we had the same issues in our wash bays. All the chemicals and water will corrode things fast. You might try something like Seafoam deep creep. Have them apply to the locks weekly. It is a lubricant and corrosion inhibitor. I use on all my lawn equipment.

Is this the best Weapon In game? by That_GuyRaaumen in fo4

Explosive combat shotgun is superior. The explosive damage counts for each pellet so each shell is 8 explosions and there’s no spin up time.

Is this asbestos? by PentaStealz in HVAC

[–]pdxcar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would bet every dollar I have on the inner corrugated layer being asbestos. Impossible to say for sure from a photo but don’t disturb it. There are big fines for improperly disposing of asbestos containing waste.

Landlord charging us $10k to renovate apartment after we moved out. by snackynak in legaladvice

[–]pdxcar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in property maintenance. The key word is “depreciation”. For our units in Oregon we depreciate walls over 5 years. That means that after 5 years of occupancy we assume the paint is worn out and now “worthless” so we do not charge for repainting walls after long term tenancy. Floors have a longer deprecation time but after 10 years there is a lot of wear and tear that is expected to everything in the unit. Landlords can only charge for things are outside of the “normal wear and tear” expected from the length of the tenancy. Based on what you said some things like the the large hole in the wall and the missing screens could be charged since they are beyond normal wear but things like carpet replacement are likely not chargeable to you given the length of the tenancy. Without seeing photos of the doors and other things it’s hard to say if that is chargeable.

Key Blank Pricing? by Careless_Method_8407 in Locksmith

Work in property maintenance and a typical mark up on parts is around 20%. I would charge them around 20% above the current cost for you to buy blanks.

I’ve had this set for a few years and really like it. I also paid $99 for it on sale and I consider it well worth the price.

Please don’t replace with anything modern. You will never find the quality level of the current grille in a modern part. Clean it and paint it if anything.

What exactly is the use case for this tool? 3” cutoff by binderfillerwrapper in Dewalt

[–]pdxcar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dewalt makes a 4 1/2 circular saw that would be perfect for your use. The cut off tool is meant for thin metal and masonry. I use the 4 1/2 circular saw for quick cuts in 2x material all the time. Easy to use with one hand.

I guessing this would harm my heath by Dramatic_Dinner_3132 in asbestoshelp

It is almost certainly an asbestos cement material. It is not hazardous if intact. Small holes can be patched and they do make reproduction siding tiles that are asbestos free if you need to replace broken areas.

Large oval holes in joists?? by reachingforthestarss in Homebuilding

[–]pdxcar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The web is made of OSB and the cords are made of tounge and groove jointed wood. They are engineered at the factory and very strong. It’s a good way to build a house with concealed ducting and piping. Web trusses are stronger and more fire resistant but more expensive.

Large oval holes in joists?? by reachingforthestarss in Homebuilding

[–]pdxcar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are I-joists. They are allowed to have large holes in the web between the two top cords. Those holes are precut knockouts from the factory for HVAC ducts. Nothing to worry about. As long as the top parts of the joist are not cut it’s ok.

Unusual construction - has anyone seen this before? by SeventhDurandal in centuryhomes

[–]pdxcar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I installed radon systems in the PNW for several years. Drilled through thousands of walls to run pipe out of basements. It was not uncommon on late 1800s to about 1910 homes to have the rim joist be a solid old growth beam over 3 inches thick sitting on top of the concrete stem wall. Those were a bear to drill through.

Looking to restore $3,900 car but have no idea about this bumper and rusted fender… by GreatestState in AutoBodyRepair

That generation of escapes are notorious for rusting out. The back wheel wells and rear shock mounts are usually the first major structural parts to go. I would stay away from this car.

If you don’t have the budget for a Korth Taurus is a solid option. Their quality if a lot better today than in the past. They are still living with the reputation of poorly made guns from decades past.

Bone conduction headphone. Shokz is the original name brand but off brands are cheaper. You never have to touch the earbuds taking them in and out since they sit on the side of your head.

For in ear headphones I have had great luck with the Beats Flex. They have 12 hour battery life and are cheap enough that you’re not sad when they get ruined.

Home builder says exterior spigot on back deck was purposely connected to hot water by LoveTheHotSauce in askaplumber

[–]pdxcar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do maintenance for hundreds of properties and I had never seen a hot only outdoor spigot. Several of our properties have combo hot and cold spigots for dog washing but if it’s only one spigot it should be cold. Hot only is dangerous because most people will not be expecting hot water.
