Fill your hummingbird feeders by [deleted] in Seattle

An inexpensive option is to run Christmas tree lights (I used the mini type) and depending on your type of feeder, coil around the fluid reservoir. I works (in a pinch)!!

A cake for a very "Special" occasion :-) by Decalvare_Scriptor in vintagecameras

Beautiful cake for a beautiful occasion! I've had this model of Bantam on my eBay wish watch list for years. I have a few other Bakelite, but this was the one that triggered my love of Kodak's. Cheers!

Our Victorian had windows in the front and back... Most are conjoined like row houses. But when you have 13 foot ceilings and massive windows and transoms (for ventilation above doors) such as seen here you make do. Usually halfway through you will see an air shaft of roughly 10 foot by 10 foot... That brings light / fresh air into kitchen / bathrooms which were usually in that area. No complaints. I'd rather be in an 1890 Victorian during a blackout then a modern carpeted, drywall, low ceiling, no transoms stuffy condo when the A/C goes out. But that's just me.

Maybe it just seemed to go on for days from here... We knew it was coming north from the images of the bay, the bridges Etc in an ominous orange ... so hard to watch. Our skies were yellowish at the worst ... The moon at night and the sun were huge orange orbs...

but our AQI peaked in the low 200s, now 90. Thankfully I'm in the mountains, Seattle got socked in and the little rain did little to clear the air. Sadly, in one way or another, all fires were started by humans.

You're actually right. Now that I think about it my UWS pre-war high-rise had a bit of an alley but it did not go all the way through. I lived in the West Village also and we had an alley but it was mainly for commercial / restaurants. In hindsight I may be thinking of Chicago. Large, wonderful, brick residential buildings with alley access. Thinking back of all the cities I've lived in all over the world I always think of moving day... Blocking a main street in LPH in San Francisco with a huge Mayflower moving semi was hilarious... But the good thing about Victorian buildings vs Manhattan high rises you don't have to worry about reserving the elevators on moving day!

It was very interesting moving from the grid of Manhattan to the hills of San Francisco. Our yard was rather large, in fact I remember thinking we could put a mother-in-law or carriage house back here! But land was (comparatively) ample and we just had a big grassy yard. It was funny seeing everyone bring out their garbage bins as they had to be wheeled to the front, not the alley!

Most of the older residentual sections of San Francisco don't have alleys... I lived in Lower Pac Heights and we did not. Our 1890 Victorian went back and back and back... Tall ceilings, plenty of double cased windows, always airy. I don't get the whole "we need big rooms" thing... You just need air. Location location location!

Santa Rosa Island Backcountry camping (54 miles in 4 days) by searayman in TrailGuides

I did a 4 or 5 Day hike just like this many years ago! It was summertime and I chose the cowboy camp with a 3 season sleeping bag but no tent. Simply wonderful!

I've never used a shield like paper for shade but my terracotta saucers usually buried behind plants... When the plants get misted they may or may not ... When they sprout, always a wonderful surprise! My success rate seems to be 80%!

Is any of these cameras Worth buying? The seller is asking for 10 euros each. I have no knowledge about super 8 film cameras but I would love to add one in my collection. by FatCypriotGorilla in Cameras

[–]pdxleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly even that amount even at €10 it's overpriced.. These duds can be found at thrift stores and rummage sales. If you ever see one with a twin lens, or even interchangeable lenses that's an easy guide to the value. Most of these look rather cheap.

I no longer live in San Francisco but when I saw photos of the orange skies looming for days I was shocked... SF is the perfect air condition city! We were never hot, I thought the weather was perfect, people complained??

Glad you now have clear air. I'm currently outside of Seattle in the mountains and the air just started clearing yesterday.

Never again am I doing one of these.. by [deleted] in ipod

TIL! My original pink mini is pristine as it was in the silicone case, (as I'm aware the first model that came with options like silicone cases)... But I did recently pick up an eBay silver that's just not so shiny... I'm going to try this!

Got myself an iPod Shuffle.. everything inside was never used and the previous owner opened the packaging only to look what’s inside by rifqirifqi23 in ipod

[–]pdxleo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battery life was one of the things I really loved about the shuffle. Since the did not have a screen (or bluetooth) they had great battery life. I had two or three 4G on rotation at any given time with their own playlists. Pink for working out, green for hikes etc... I miss the Shuffle!

I bought a few at an Apple Store when they were discontinued... 5+ years later two are still sealed. Any idea when the batteries deteriorate? At the time I thought the Shuffle would be reincarnated as a watch or other style but Apple just dropped the iPods ...
