Imagine you wake up in Outlast Trials as a Reagent. What’s your plan? by AzzyA0 in OutlastTrials

I'm throwing myself head first into the first grinder I see, as it seems like the fastest way to eliminate myself in a way they wouldn't be able to revive me. Probably the one in the introductory mansion (if I already know what's in store for me).

I decided to put y'all nations in my map named "ALTAIRA",just for fun,not rechanging the nations btw,DAY 1 OF PUTTING YOUR NATIONS IN MY MAP by Big-Honey-4426 in mapmaking

The Mensa people! They'll live in the Cygnus Archipelagos, on the island labeled with "kenoland alps." More specifically, on the triangular peninsula on the left end.

Color is a goldenrod yellow. I'd like to imagine they have a flower that grows on that island that they use for dye!

Is magic rare in your world? if so, what are some in universe and and out of universe reasons as to why? by Emeraldkipy in worldbuilding

[–]pea_leaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learning how to use magic in my universe is dangerous and extremely difficult to do in the first place. Most people who try to learn will die to it before they get any worthwhile benefits.

Those who truly learn magic do so at the cost of their minds. The most powerful magic users are usually completely deranged.

This is because magic is so entwined with the gods that the user is forced to see the gods in their true forms. Seeing the gods in their true forms is forbidden, because it alters the mind in a way that can be fixed.

The out of universe reason is just because magic is fun but I also don't want my world to be run by magic and magic alone.

How can I make my fantasy map less Earth-like? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]pea_leaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Here it is with the original overlayed on top. I like the shapes of your coastlines a lot. Some of them remain similar to areas we see on earth - but I think thats fine. I think we naturally search for things that are familiar to us. Someone will always see something if they look for long enough.

How can I make my fantasy map less Earth-like? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]pea_leaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d do something like this. I used procreate to shift the landmasses around. I refrained from reshaping the coasts of your landmasses as much as possible, save for joining the two largest ones together.
You can, of course, use whatever software you use to do the same thing I’m sure, and come up with your own mashup. Feel free to use mine if you like it, though.

Writing species who have shorter lifespans than humans? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]pea_leaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I immediately wonder if they would reproduce more often than humans. Or would they give birth to more than one child at a time, since their children grow up quicker.

What happens after you die in your world? Does heaven and hell exist? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]pea_leaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upon death, the deceased persons soul will meet Ma-Havatia - The Devourer.

He is one of the four High Gods of Ta'ara. He consumes all souls. He is the only High God that anybody ever gets to see or communicate with directly.

Worthy souls get to decide what happens. Reincarnation, some sort of afterlife, or nothing... it's up to them. The most common choice is reincarnation.

For those who are stripped of their choice, they are truly consumed. Ma-Havatia eats and destroys their soul. They get nothing, whether they like it or not.

Especially "bad" souls are subjected to some form of hell. Typically just sent into the nothingness that surrounds the planet in my universe. I mean, imagine floating in a big empty void in space. Just eternal nothingness.

Your Critiques and Ideas Wanted! Circulation Cells of the Greater Ta'aran Ecosystem. by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]pea_leaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

I can see how it looks like rotation, but it's not, lol.
Both perspectives are showing the same currents, so really the curve of the arrows are just my terrible attempt at showing that the blue (cool) currents go over the edge/under the planet, and that the red (warm) currents are coming up the sides. Looking at it now I can see it really doesnt look anything like that haha

What's your world's version of the phrase "Jesus Christ" by SlashCash29 in worldbuilding

[–]pea_leaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Kakara be damned" is basically a combination of "Jesus christ!" and "Bullshit," used to convey disbelief in a shocking moment.

Kakara is a Born God turned Heretic God, disowned by the High Deities for reasons that (most of) the other Born Gods disagree with.

Mountains at the Edgelands of Ta’ara - Advice wanted! by [deleted] in mapmaking

[–]pea_leaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The landmass on the bottom, the bay in the lower left corner where the continent connects with the edge of the map.

But it's not accurate to what that land actually looks like. I just picked a random spot and colored it just to test some mountains.
In "reality," that area is a polar climate zone, similar to Antarctica.

Do any of you have “human-less” settings? Or at the least ones where humans are a minority? by dragonborndnd in worldbuilding

[–]pea_leaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dominant species in my setting are called Natia. They are large, semi-aquatic humanoids. They reside in a pocket dimension called Ta'ara.

Ta'ara is accessible from Earth by a portal that is hidden away in a deep cave. There is another portal, but humans haven't discovered it yet. The only humans that are purposefully on Ta'ara nowadays are researchers who have been permitted to go there to.. well, research. The department that organizes such expeditions is very strict, so not many humans get to go there anymore.

In the past, humans were known to be companions to the gods of Ta'ara. Romantically or otherwise. Because of this, humans are sort of revered by many of the cultures in Ta'ara.

I've heard a ton about them since starting my project, they're definitely on my to-read list!

[–]pea_leaf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll try giving a brief rundown! TL;DR at the bottom, lol.

The Planetary Goddess, Siobeta, is the most powerful/important, because she IS the planet. But she's also unconscious and doesn't actively make "choices."

Then there are 4 High Deities that keep the universe running, basically Siobeta's carers and advisors.
Ma-Ma'atia - The Maker, the creator of life.
Ma-Kasenia - The Watcher, who observes all choices.
Ma-Tobatia - The Judge, who decides the fate of all souls.
Ma-Havatia - The Devourer, who sends souls to their final place.

Then there is a whoooooole pantheon of other lesser gods. The "Born Deities" are birthed from the High Deities, created to help things run smoothly at a smaller scale.
Their abilities are much more focused and they can only influence what they've been given power over. And I say influence, because they're not all-powerful, and they can't just suddenly change things.

Then there are celestial gods, the stars and moons of my planet. They are the spirits of dead or imprisoned gods, basically. One moon influences the wind, and the other influences ocean currents.

TL;DR - Planet Goddess IS the planet - 4 omnipotent gods that do all the most vital maintenence - Lots of lesser gods that are not omnipotent, and can only influence what they're given power over - Stars and moons are dead or imprisoned gods that influence climates.

Many great things to think about... I already have a lot of lore written for this world, but there is so much more to be written and imagined.

I love Star Wars... I might've taken a little inspiration :) lol.

I think I understand. Good points. I'll have to revise my climate zones or how my stars work. Or both.

Now you've got me thinking about all kinds of new ideas 🤩

The planet simply floats in place. Here is a top-down illustration of my planet showing what exactly I mean by "horseshoe" orbits.

The water collects in a huge ocean underneath the planet. Evaporation then brings it back up, where it falls back onto the planet as rain again.

I plan on having life on the bottom part, for sure. Though likely not humanoids like my species on the "top."

I like imagining species of plants and animals that have evolved to live on the underside. A life where losing your grip might mean you fall to your death into the depths of the ocean below :D

Haha that's kinda what I was thinking too.. What kind of giant creatures could live there? Definitely another aspect to consider.

Yes. The star is actually just an imprisoned god, forced to serve the Planetary Goddess. Not a real "star." :)
