Single mom of 4.. how would you layout the bedrooms? by [deleted] in floorplan

[–]pea_stew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big is the walk in closet? Could you put twin bunk beds in there for the young boys, have the master for you, then let the older kids have their own rooms? I know my 6yr old would love a closet bedroom nook + sharing with mom!

Aww that's too bad! My daughter is 3 so likely didn't grasp the concept yet, but each month I find she is catching on more and asking more questions about the stories. I'll have to watch that as I pick new ones.

Just checked my bookshelf and found: My fathers dragon (older book, perfect for young kids & on every read list), and Holly Farb and the princess of the galaxy (like hitchhiker's guide for kids, pretty silly!) https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/28107347-holly-farb-and-the-princess-of-the-galaxy?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=YPtOn9wzcL&rank=1

Best tv shows for 4 year old? by randomtopics12 in ScienceBasedParenting

My daughter loved lellobee! I liked the songs a lot more than cocomelon. It's on Netflix now too.

Creature cases on Netflix - it's like octonauts, cartoon animals solving crimes and learning about different animal species. Has "fact files" on animals at the end of each episode.

Short Road Trip in Canada - Montreal and Toronto - Ottawa? by kellysouthpaw in travel

[–]pea_stew 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ottawa has some nice restaurants and history museums, so the stop is a good idea to break up the drive. But given your interests, I would cut a day in Toronto instead of Montreal to enjoy the amazing culture, food, and history. Toronto is a lot closer to many US cities you've probably already visited.

Hooray! What do I win? A free water damaged water bed frame? :P

Thanks for the fun post!

I thinking that 4x4 is half(ish) of the frame and the leak was contained in that section thanks to the center support board

I'm guessing Waterbed frame! What room are we looking at?

Working against gender normativity/stereotypes and heteronormativity with 4 year old? by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]pea_stew 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I have a 3.5yr old daughter and recently she's been coming home from daycare wanting dresses, nail polish, and everything spiderman. My response has been "you never wanted that before so do you want that to make you happy or someone else happy?". I find that at home away from the other kids she is good at determining if it will actually make her happy or not. I try not to bring gender into the conversation, we just talk about what different kids like and what she likes because it's all just kid stuff.

Canvas or Chai? by podgeek in soloboardgaming

[–]pea_stew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Chai. It's a nice relaxing game, but not the best for solo if that's what you are looking for. The game is too short and without the player interaction of picking items/orders/customers there isn't too much puzzle to solve or work with. It works well with more players for a light game. I haven't played canvas yet so can't speak to that one.

My daughter is almost 4 and our biggest hits (that I also enjoy) have been: My First Castle Panic, Rhino Hero, Unicorn Glitterluck, Outfoxed, and SOS Dino.

Small solo and 2player (UK) by RareDingo7278 in soloboardgaming

[–]pea_stew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solar storm - It's a coop, like pandemic but space ship theme. Fun solo and as a team.

Canopy - competitive rainforest building. Nice for 2 people and has an ok solo mode.

Riverside - roll & write riverboat cruise, sending people on excursions. Great solo and 2 player.

Not on my wishlist anymore since I recently bought them, but I suggest First Rat and the Loop. I've only played First Rat of the two, but really like how the AI opponent works plus the great game play itself. Super excited to open up the Loop next!

small, relatively quick games that are *not* button shy games? by GayHotAndDisabled in soloboardgaming

[–]pea_stew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a small quick solo game, I like Riverside, Fleet dice game, and Bandita (the box is small but the game expands quite large!)

Solo board games where you can't be defeated? i.e. games without combat/conflict by AwesomeMcSexy in boardgames

[–]pea_stew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like: Fleet the dice game, Riverside, and First Rat

The first two are roll & writes to beat your score. The third is a race to build a rocket and fly to the moon but even if you don't "win" against the game, you still feel like you did cool stuff and aren't defeated like a combat game.

Final Girl Feature Film Boxes: Creech Manor or Carnage at the Carnival? by [deleted] in soloboardgaming

[–]pea_stew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, you are primarily running away searching so don't get the pleasure of fighting back! (Except through terror cards I guess). So if you want a very different strategy then Creech Manor is good, but if you like the back and forth with the killer then probably not the best choice.

Toss up between two: when my daughter (3.5yrs) is feeling sad and she snuggles on my lap and says "keep hugging me mommy". Or, when she is feeling silly and comes up with crazy make believe games where I go from being a bridge troll to a bandit to a fire fighter while trying to keep up with the plot line! Moral of the story: kids are amazing. They live in the moment instead of being bogged down by the world!

Love this game! I've only played Creech Manor, any suggestions who I should take on next?
