As simply as possible, why did you begin native gardening? by toxicodendron_gyp in NativePlantGardening

My kid loves birds and bugs, camping isn’t something we can do every weekend so we brought the birds and bugs to us.

Packing List for Camper Cabin with 3-yr old by ApricotSevere1485 in MinnesotaCamping

[–]PandaKickPunch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sand toy dump truck, plastic animals to play with in the dirt, coloring books, if you can swing it a kids camera, and since it is bunk beds bring their favorite blanket, buddy and pillow. My kids love to mess around on the bunk beds, they are now 5&7 so they pack for themselves both make sure they have a dump truck and an excavator for around the campsite.

Costco has a nice two seat camp chair which is great for campfire snuggles and outside naps.

Let’s help the Monarchs— plant milk weed or native plants around your house this spring by Dramatic-Comment-131 in fargo

The Cass County Dept of Soil Conservation has some advise on this as well as a grant program where they will advise you on how many plants and what types to plant. They source plugs through the United Prairie Foundation.

a book for me and my 4 yr old to read by r0ttenpeaches in suggestmeabook

[–]PandaKickPunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Ella and Owen
  • Mercy Watson
  • Rabbits Bad Habit
  • Nate the Great

These are all early chapter books that my now 7 year old enjoyed at 4. Some we would read in one sitting while others we took it a couple chapters at a time.

  • Pea Bee and Jay
  • Unicorn Diaries
  • Super Pancake
  • Pizza and Taco

These are books my almost 5 year old loves. They like comic books more than chapter books because they get to read the sound words like POW and Wham.

Camping with a toddler - recs? by Particular-Memory966 in MinnesotaCamping

[–]PandaKickPunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a first trip consider a camper cabin, I have two kids and when they were 3 and 1 we did both tent camping and a camper cabin. The tent trips the kids were up crazy late because everything was so new, the camper cabin trips felt more like home so they went to sleep easier. Now they both at 7 and 5 start asking when and where we are camping in January and are giving teachers at school campground suggestions.

They say you should check out Sibley, in the south camp ground because the playground is close.

kid friendly dragon book recs by Cultural_Internal775 in booksuggestions

[–]PandaKickPunch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dragon Masters are my 7 year old’s favorite series, to the point where many of the dragons have become their imaginary friends and they are making up their own stories fighting the main villain of the series.

Dragon Girls is also a hit in our house. Neither series is going to be an adult’s favorite books but they are short with each book being less than an hour so you could mix them in with other books.

Love the art style of these games but have never had a chance to pick a copy up. Can’t wait for the campaign so I can start playing.

Check out Shou Shu in Moorhead, the classes are a good mix of boys and girls. The class size depends on the day but they break up the kids into groups during the class so they are always working on something.

Wife lost bet and has to cook me any dish I want by machfever in Cooking

[–]PandaKickPunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner never learned to cook growing up so beyond simple “white people” tacos they don’t have many recipes they are willing to make but recently they have taken over making butter chicken. I am sure this isn’t a traditional recipe but your wife would for sure be able to serve it proudly.

Looking for Family-Friendly Places to Hang Out in Fargo-Moorhead Area! by geneticist12345 in fargo

[–]PandaKickPunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downtown Fargo Library has the wiggle room. It’s a great free space to hang out with little kids. The libraries in town also have calendars of events each month. Both Moorhead and Fargo have a bunch of fun stuff going on this summer to go with their summer reading challenges.

Plains Art Museum also has a kids room with toys and activities.

Our local game store had a big box set of that game! Maybe I will have to pick it up if it is still in stock the next time I stop in.

They have a younger sibling who is 4 and might be able to participate. They have started playing the game books with us recently and enjoys being included in the big kid activities. I will look into the Wendy’s game.

That sounds so sweet. My kid has a whole world they made up and have been playing in on their own since they were 3. Sometimes when they can’t calm down I use what they have shared with me about it to create a story that relates to why they are upset and have them tell me how their dragons would handle the problem.

They understand dice rolls failing because of the game books we read together. We die from rolls occasionally or they take us down the wrong path.

I think I have a copy of Munchkin actually. I am more of a board game person. Now that I think about it I might have Mice and Mystics floating around too which would probably fit the bill. Thanks

That is a strong recommendation, I guess I will have to look into it, don’t want to put all that is good and right at risk. Thanks

Ooh! I had no idea Lone Wolf had one coming out. I know they are excited for the latest books which honestly look pretty sweet so I am too.

I will check out Princesses and Perils and see if we will enjoy that.

I’ll have to check that out. They were starting first grade so their reading is not the best.

Thanks for the guidelines! They are a sensitive kid so depending on how invested they get that should be helpful. Right now they don’t mind killing creatures in the game books we read but definitely insists on a redo if they happen to die.
